Don't forget to distinguish between true goblin and Gobelin print. From what I heard some of the Meta came in both depending on what year of a release/ rerelease. Gobelin prints on thin cotton are so disappointing

That's really cute! One nice thing about Gobelin it's that it is a commercial fabric, so it's not that hard to find and to make pieces inspired by those unattainable DD of ours. Of course it's not the same thing, but anyway.

I own pic related, it had been on my DD list since I was in high school and finally found it recently.

I own this dress in the orange and blue uberfabric colourway. It's by VM and he frills and the pin tucking are incredible, but the dress is absolutely miniscule. It fits me, but it's like... Mid-thigh. I'm not even that tall. I still love it though

I've had several Meta dresses made of actual Gobelin. I have a Rose Gobelin set that isn't just printed and then a newer Rose Gobelin jsk that is. I have also a Meta Gobelin jsk that seems to be rare and is an amazing thick tapestry

Operetta Bouquet, lolibrary says it's 100% cotton with a polyester lining. So not gobelin. It's really pretty though

the "line" is that "gobelin" refers to the fabric weave, it's a dyed tapestry. Akin to something like jacquard. Gobelin is not exclusively floral, but that is a very popular pattern in gobelin textiles.

Do you have preferences regarding a substyle? This would make it easier for us to suggest anything. Meta often has the longest pieces in Gobelin, but there are some Chinese Brands that also carry longer dresses in this fabric.

Is there such a thing as garment-quality gobelin? I've been wanting to make my own floral gobelin dress for years but all the fabric I find is always stiff upholstery quality, maybe suitable for a purse or a corset but not something with any kind of drape.

Personally, I love Gobelin because I think it looks very doll-like. It's a fabric that's not commonly seen in clothes nowadays, which gives it a cute antique feel to it. It also makes me nostalgic as it reminds me of my grandma and older English homes just generally.

I see. Surface Spell has some pieces in Gobelin that are tall-lolita friendly. They also make custom-sized pieces on their Gothic subbrand. Moitie's Gobelin pieces are all pretty petite driven, so they're probably a no-no.

Meta has some skirts with 65cm+ in lenght, like pic related. I don't know how tall you are, but Meta is probably your best bet in Gobelin pieces from Japanese Brands. (Though IW has some too, but it's been a while since I last saw one for sale)

I love Gobelin! Sadly it's a bit harder to find.
Especially VM has gorgeous pieces, mostly from the ols school era.
My other favorite fabric is velveteen and I think they combine really well.
Wished I had many pieces in Gobelin but sadly I only got 1 jacket, so I want to make my own gobelin pieces with Otome no Sewing patterns and I'm keeping an eye out for auctions and other 2ndhand sellers.

yep! this is gobelin. a surefire way to tell is to look at the underside of the fabric, you should be able to see the weaving. thanks anon for this great illustrative pic!

in addition to gobelin, there are a lot of textile terms like jacquard or damask that get tossed around in lolita but sometimes end up being a misnomer.

in short, they are weaving techniques, whereas many prints are just printed on a woven, heavy weight fabric.
