aka I wanted to wait until someone else made the thread to ask my dumb question but nobody else did so I hope I did this right.

>> No.10144687

Anyways, my dumb question starter:

I decided to finally cut my hair from butt-length to something that won't be so heavy on my head, but now I'm looking for lifestyle / classic lolita wig suggestions since I don't have my long brown Asian hair for lolita anymore. Amazon would be nice so I can get them quick for upcoming events but otherwise I can figure my way around Aliexpress and Taobao if I know the shop names.

KC is short for katyusha which is just an accessory (usually a bow) on a headband. It’s not used very often since most people usually just say headbow or Alice band.

So I'm in the market for a serger machine.
I currently already have a fairly nice sewing machine that has served me well for making halloween costumes, but I want to upgrade and start making some more durable everyday stuff.
What should I be looking for when buying a serger? Any features I should look for? Also how much should I be looking to spend on one?

Would it be bad to wear pic related (navy) with a black blouse?

>>10144966
I mean, if you use pink accessories, for example, it's going to look unbalanced and trashy. If you wear a black blouse, wide socks might not look good. So if you're going with a dark scheme like that you might wanna stick to dark navy/black accessories too.

>> No.10144983

>>10144966
Not that anon, but the reason people often say navy and black don't go together is that it can tend to look like you were trying to go for all black/all navy and missed that they are actually different shades. Specifically this is the case with menswear - a man wearing a black blazer and navy pants will just look like he grabbed the wrong pants for the blazer. If you balance the black and navy evenly throughout the coord it will look intentional, and then it's fine.

It means Elegant Gothic Lolita and it comes from Mana who uses it for Moi-meme-Moitie. But a lot of American and European lolitas use EGL interchangeably with lolita, since the original livejournal comm about lolita fashion was also called egl. On top of that, the word lolita is blocked on a lot of social media searches because of pedophiles, so sweet and classic lolitas also use egl instead of lolita since egl isn't blocked anywhere. Even where lolita isn't blocked, it's better to tag your posts with egl fashion instead of lolita fashion to avoid a thousand porn bots following you. There are also a lot of comms who use EGL in their name instead of lolita because it looks better to normies who might look at which groups you're posting to.

And I apologize for the shit quality of the socks. I couldn't find any better pics of the type of sock that I'm looking for. If I could find the Merry-Go-Round lace otks in red and white, that'd be preferable. how would anons rate the quality of brands like leur getter, emily temple, and jane marple? i like many of their designs but its hard to justify their prices to myself when lolita is more intricate and the same price or cheaper.

>> No.10148999

>>10148995
I own some jane marple and a lot of ETC. The quality is definitely comparable to "proper" lolita brands. I can see how you'd think it's not quite as detailed or over the top, but the prints are always stunning and the fabrics and trims are high quality as well, they're great for casual wear but also work with your lolita wardrobe. I love their cutsews, cardigans and sweaters n stuff. I have both printed cotton and chiffon skirts and I don't any difference between them and brand except for sometimes shorter length. Also, ETC and jane marple go for much less secondhand so that;s something to keep in mind, it can be either a pro or con depending on how you look at it.

I don't wear leur getter but it seems they have a more mature, minimalist vintage approach to the lolita silhouette, and while that might not be quite as eye catching as an OTT sweet print by AP, the detailing such as pintucks, pleats, and other construction factors justify the price to me. Especially when you compare it to new AP and it's flimsy chiffon sack dresses.

It doesn't seem to be from any of Sakizo's own books and looking up the company that has their logo at the bottom, I'm not finding anything in this style or aesthetic, and the logo itself seems to have been changed since

>> No.10149032

>>10149005
Hmmm, this is a difficult one. I managed to find the listing for that work on Sakizo's website:

>シリコンスタジオ クロスレジェンド/カードイラスト(2012)

Looks like she did illustrations for a moba game called Cross Legend /クロスレジェンド? or xlegends. It might be something that was only shown within that moba community/higher ups but was never released to the general public? If it WAS in one of her artbooks, I reckon it might be from one of her 2009 ones. Perhaps Parfum de la Fascination?

>> No.10149037

>>10149032
Wait, shit I'm a idiot. If it was done in 2012 why would it be in her 2009 artbook. Yikes me. But you have a general idea of that era now anon. Perhaps Art book 17 "Sakizo Art Works", according to the her website is the themed around her illustrations for work.

In my experience, Jane Marple has the best quality out of those three, which is reflected in their pricing. Emily Temple cute is second best even though they tend to be slightly cheaper than Leur Getter. Not saying Leur Getter is horrible, but I trust them less than ETC and JM. Maybe because LG is the newer brand they're less consistent. I should say I haven't bought anything from LG since 2017 though. ETC is very durable. JM too but sometimes they use (very nice) delicate fabric that you can't just throw in the washing machine like you would with ETC.

What really helped me was one of those cheapo tripods with a blue tooth remote for my phone.
I started with an Amazon Look which let me see the photos as I took them. This is kind of embarrassing but I took hundreds of photos one afternoon and tried to figure out what looked good. You don't need the Look, it just helped make it go faster. After that it was useless because the camera is crap.
Just do a bunch when you are alone and find your angles. Try to recreate poses like photos you like. Look at how your feet look in the photo. Try taking multiple photos, slightly moving your feet each time.
I didn't expect it but slight positioning of the feet really changed the whole effect!
You should be able to start seeing what looks better and practice getting to that pose.
If you are like me and not taking photos a lot it can feel embarrassing but no one will know. You will be a lot more confident!

Start before you get to the ironing stage, while they're damp from washing, gently yank them all straight so that they form less wrinkles from ironing. If you're using the dryer, no heat, and take it out while it's still a little damp and not fully dry so that you can still shape the fabric before it's fully dry.

For sleeves, you're supposed to use a tailor's ham, insert it into the sleeve and then iron right over it, the ham will keep the sleeve stuffed out so that you can iron each part. I don't have one, so I roll up some towels until they fit into the sleeves and then use that instead. Mostly you want to iron the middle so that it's wrinkle-free.

For any ruffles, instead of an iron, you can use a hair straightener as it's smaller (make sure it's clean and not gunky with hair product though).

If you hate ironing, switch to polyester, most of it is wrinkle-free (especially burando poly).

The long and short of it is that Haenuli is closing shop, and while people may get bored of their pieces they also know there's no further supply of this dress. So if you wait to find it secondhand, it's possible you can't find anyone else willing to part with their dresses, or the price may go up since there's no further supply of it.

So basically, if this is your dream dress, it haunts you, and you know you definitely want to own it, then just buy it now instead of torturing yourself later.

If you think it's just a very pretty dress but it isn't your dream dress, feel free to wait. There's always another prettier dress around the corner, even if you never end up with Haenuli's version there's a handful of other stained glass prints by various other brands that you can buy instead.

If you have limited funds, you might want to take a look at the capsule thread and think about building a small, cohesive wardrobe where you can make a lot of coords out of as few pieces as possible, it's gonna save your more money in the long run rather than just picking up whatever is cheap but doesn't really match anything else in your wardrobe.

ok so sometime last year I was browsing through violet blue on rakuten and I saw this old school hat which I thought was cute, but my dumb ass didn’t bookmark it and it had sold by the time I returned to the site a couple weeks later. It was really cheap too, like 500 yen or something. If you’ve been to violet blue before you know they’re shit with their images, it seems like they delete the pictures when the item is sold so I couldn’t find it again. I haven’t seen this hat since. I’m like 80% sure it’s from putumayo but I could be wrong. Trawling through early glbs and Japanese google images has led me to nothing so far, but I’m still looking. I don’t even need to buy it, I only want a photo or something. Even someone else’s recount of seeing this hat will do. Just want proof that this hat exists and I’m not hallucinating or anything, in that case I’ll just sew the hat myself

Are there any non-China based Taobao shopping agents?
It's a long story, but basically, it seems like all the payment gateways used by Chinese shopping services no longer offer services to my country. I thought it was my card until I noticed that my order from Japan went smoothly, and when I e-mailed them, they basically confirmed my fears. PayPal, bank transfer and western union aren't available where I am internationally, ether.
Failing the first idea, would it be weird asking someone if I could pay them through a site like Etsy or Storenvy to order things on my behalf, then send them to me? Please help, anons.

(Sorry, no recs) There's just a couple of things to keep in mind with hoop skirts, first is to layer another tulle petticoat on top of it, this stops the boning from showing through the skirt and looking weird.

Second is to consider that hoops skirts don't squish down. It's fine if you have the space for it, but not that great a choice for, say, public transport with the narrow entry turnstiles, which is why they aren't so widely popular with lolitas.

Third is wear safety shorts or bloomers of some sort, but I guess that's a normal thing.

10153940

>>10153923

I'll start by saying it's not possible to give an answer for every single body type out there -- have you seen the number of measurements needed to properly draft a bespoke blouse? There's a shitton to make sure the blouse fits right, and burando doesn't even publicise most of them.

For eg if you're simply much taller/shorter than the average Japanese girl, or your torso is simply much longer/shorter, then the bust and waist points simply won't fall on the right places on your body. It won't matter if your bust has inches to spare when the blouse is so short you're trying to shove the bust into the waist area of the blouse, or the blouse's bust is actually hanging around your ribcage rather than on your own bust.

So, first the height/torso length. Most lolita brands assume their wearer is the average Japanese girl with a height of 150~160cm, so you should make sure you're within this range. One issue gaijin have is the armscye may be a little bit too small. Problems are reversed if you're Asian and looking at western brands.

If you're not particularly skinny, make sure the shoulder width fits you as well, or the sleeves may be uncomfortable/too tight/too loose.

THEN, after you've verified all that. Your bust should be around 2-4 inches below the measurements. This is the usual ease that is added when drafting blouse patterns, so I'd suggest you stick to this.

For the waist, just be under the measurements, or pick something with waist ties if you're very much smaller -- if you aren't larger than an E-cup it matters less whether the blouse is loose at the waist, so long as you're not bursting out of it.

>> No.10153958

Thank you for taking the time to explain all this. I'm about 166cm, so I guess a brand blouse wouldn't fit me.

Depends on torso length as well... I have a friend with a short torso - we're the same seated height despite her being 3" taller, so even though she is technically outside "lolita height" bodices and blouses aren't an issue, but she has to be careful about sleeve length.

Only thing is, when she lists the bodice measurement for size m as 16in/40cm, is that from the shoulders to the waist or the neckline to the waist? I'm pretty short, so when I measured 16 in from the chest where jsks are supposed to land, the waist of the hypothetical dress ended up being near my hips/navel which would basically mess up the silhouette :( but when I measured from the shoulders, it was the perfect measurement? Is the style on the left a thing? I really like the idea of being able to wear soft, feminine work appropriate clothing that isn't dripping in cheap lace or covered in hearts but when I go looking for stores that sell it, or a style to call it, I'm coming up blank. Gyaru and Himekaji seem close but don't quite fit. I also tend to find a lot of DDLG crap being recommended in my searches which is obviously not what I want, and when I look up other elements it sometimes will also just show people into the bimbo fetish or trying to make themselves look like Barbie with plastic surgery.

Is this a style? Where would I find it? What is it called? Are there any associated brands? Can anyone recommend any Instagrams with a similar style?
