How do you enter your billing address in your account on the AP online shop?

I've entered my tenso address as normal on the shipping address, but I wanted to put my billing address as the one meant for my card, to avoid any issues like my card getting blocked. I tried to enter it but it wouldn't be accepted because the post code isn't a Japanese one and isn't recognised.
Would it be ok to put the tenso address as the billing address or would my card be affected? Or can I leave it blank and just check out?

>>10127756
Like >>10127758 said, it highly depends. I generally wash all my frills in the washing machine on gentle cycle, but my wardrobe is all solids so I've never had an issue. I will say that you should be careful washing red pieces, or pieces that have red on them, since that color (coincidentally) is the most prone to bleeding.

>> No.10127775

>>10127756
In general, 100% poly (solid or print) can be handwashed cold or on a cool gentle cycle in a mesh bag. Cotton is more variable, and depends on how often you wear a piece. Since cotton fades and pills more readily I tend to handwash in cold or dry clean to keep pieces nice, even though they would survive repeat washing fine (I wear a lot of old black pieces and faded pilling black looks awful). Old AP (2010 sweet especially) is known for being extremely hardy with a few exceptions. Baby is always a gamble because the prints bleed more often. A few general tips:

>If a dress has specialty trims/design elements like gemstones or beading I would handwash gently over anything else.
>Always remove detachable pieces and either wash by themselves or spot clean because metal clasps can leave rust stains or snag delicate fabric.
>Air dry flat, or hung up on a rack, never in the dryer.
>Baby uses a thick torchon lace a lot, if you wash a piece with that spend time reshaping the lace while it's damp or it will turn into a crinkled mess that no amount of steaming will save you from completely.
>I tend to either handwash chiffon or wash it in a mesh bag to prevent snags. This isn't necessary but fixing snags is basically impossible so I like to be careful.

Really washing brand isn't too hard if you keep the fiber type in mind, and do a test on a bow/waist tie. You can even save a dress from red dye bleeding! Plus cgl is good at giving help for specific dress/stain problems, so if you're worried someone here might help (or it might be in the archives).

You can air dry it 95% of the way then tumble it on low for a couple minutes to loosen it up a bit and then let it finish air drying. A steamer would also do the same thing, although I know a lot of people don't have those.

This is actually what I do with big fluffy terrycloth towels, they get crunchy if I air dry, but ~5min in the dryer makes them soft and warm again.

>>10127811
Velvet I tend to spot clean, steam, then air out after the first wear, then dry clean after the second. Some gulls have successfully handwashed velveteen however, but I haven't tested it myself yet.

My flocky (on chiffon) has been successfully handwashed doing a cold soak+dunk and drip method. Friction is the worst thing for flocky, so soaking it with almost no agitation is safest. Dry cleaning may or may not melt the glue, so I prefer to risk water myself. I got a bit vigorous with a piece I had just gotten because it was absolutely nasty and the water had a bunch of little fuzzies in it from me being too rough. Thankfully the print was fine, but I've been extremely careful ever since. Don't be me, be gentle.

That being said there's tons of debate on caring for flocked pieces, I feel like everyone with HL cares for it differently. I feel like I should also say that most of my experiments take place on Moitie and Baby, so ymmv.

If the seller has already disclaimed that there is damage, and you're aware, then they're re-saying there's damage so you can't file a claim as soon as you get the item on fault of "damaged item". They're trying to cover their ass so you can't say you didn't know there was damage upon arrival. Or in case of damage being done in transit.

However if this is the first mention of any damages, I'd say hold up, get damage disclosures, and adjust price accordingly, or back out of buying it.

That's quite a generalization, so no not really. It depends on the brand. Read reviews for individual brands and dresses. Some are nearly as nice as brand, some are meh, some are to be avoided completely.

Souffle Song is one of those brands that are really hit and miss so yeah, your money would be much better spend on IW in this case.

Nevertheless I wanted to address it because as a newbie, if you do find a really nice dress on taobao, with good reviews, you shouldn't feel pressured not to order it just because "all taobao is ita". Most of the shopgirls understand the words "tax free" in English, or if they don't, show them your passport and they'll usually get what you're asking. Then either they look happy which means they do do tax free, or they pull the "sorry" face and launch a long explanation, which means no, they don't do tax free.

As for finding the tax free counter, just walk up to the normal register when you're paying. Either they'll do it at the register/counter and give you money back on the spot, or some shopping malls they hand you the directory map and point out where the tax-free counter is, you pay full price at the shop's register, then go to the tax free counter with your receipt and someone there will process your tax free and give you your money back.

Total nooblet here looking for babbys first dress, leaning towards classic. I hate most of Bodyline's designs. Is taobao a good option for a first feeler dress? I'm looking for a solid colored JSK with at least partial shirring. Or should I bite the bullet and get second hand brand?

Is it a bad idea to try to take lolita dresses to a normie fleamarket? What's the likelihood the clothes will get ruined? Would you buy something on Lacemarket if you knew it has been to a flea market?

Gonna be contrarian and suggest being careful with brogues. They work, but they also make some girls' legs look stumpy because they cut your legs off at the ankles. Seconding secondhand brand or the IW sale.

If you're really worried, you can put them in plastic and stick stock photos on the front along with the pricing. That would cut down on people pawing through them directly, and if someone wants to handle the dress before they buy you can talk to them one on one. Of course, no trying on dresses, you can have a measuring tape handy and the measurements printed alongside the stock photo as well.

Fair disclaimer, this is based off vending dolls clothes. We do let them try the doll clothes on, but lolita clothes... you'd want to be able to turn down hamplanets without triggering some SJW storm.

I've been on the hunt for a nice, cute, pink coat with a capelet and have narrowed my options down to two: a BTSSB one for 9900 yen with reasonable shipping to where I am (I think like 15-20 USD) and a Kidsyoyo one for $170, another $80 for shipping. In pic, left is BTSSB and right is Kidsyoyo.

I really like the Kidsyoyo coat, the fact that it comes in a full set with a matching beret and hand warmer, and I've heard their coats are very warm (this one is 95% wool, 5% nylon), which is important as I'm located in a cold place. I love the embroidery and the warm brown accent color as well as the fact that it's overall a bit more low key and dusty pink. But while it's supposedly a limited edition release worth over $600, it's still taobao (granted, good taobao) and that shipping price is wild.

Judging from the pics of the inside of the Baby coat, it's a bit thinner and probably won't be super warm, but may be more durable in the long run, and the white fur trim helps the colors pop a bit more, yet at the same time feels a bit too out-there. But the price is so alluring!

I found this discussion on the LJ about coats, mentioning the quality of both Baby's and Kidsyoyo, if that helps supplement things. egl.livejournal.com/19104887.html

What should I do, gulls? Should I bite the bullet and shell out for the Kidsyoyo one?

Of course you should get the baby one. Kidsyoyo quality sucks and they do really overt design replicas, especially of Mary Magdalene. Speaking of MM, if you really want a high quality, warm coat I’d suggest one of theirs. Does IW ever restock things or are you just shit out of luck if they sell out?

>> No.10130462

I could have sworn the kidsyoyo coat uses real rabbit fur. If that's something that bothers you, maybe check qcute's livejournal, they probably mention if it's real rabbit fur.

Kidsyoyo also had a service where for a fee you can get the coats with extra lining, which would be worth it if your area is really, really cold. I feel like the seller would definitely have mentioned if they paid for the extra lining though, since it's a big selling point that sometimes chinese coats are warmer than Japanese ones.

Regarding quality, kidsyoyo was actually looked up as one of the ones that really went the full hog to get the closest to burando quality. They didn't quite make the final mile to reach burando quality, but they aren't cheap and shoddy like much of today's meme print taobao is, either. So the coat wouldn't be all that shabby, considering you're comparing to a btssb coat that does look kind of aging.

And if none of the above helps sway you one way or the other, I'd pick the coat that is the easiest to coord. For the btssb coat, if it's roomy enough that you can still layer both a turtleneck and a cardigan/sweater under it, that's one way to deal with the cold (if you can't, definitely skip the btssb coat, it's not worth being frozen for it). Whether you like white vs brown, or the brighter pink vs dusty pink, check your shoes, legwear and wardrobe and make sure you can actually make a coherent outfit with the coat on, and with the coat off. Otherwise what happens is you get a nice coat and then either look ita half the time, or you still end up spending more money to buy more matching accessories.

Not a cut and dried answer, I guess. Especially the choice between spending money on warmer taobao vs cheap but cold burando coat.

You can email in and request the item anyway. The online shop has different stock from the physical shops, so sometimes they are able to find one in one of the stores and sell it to you.

Please note that this is not a free stock check, usually if they find it then they assume you want to buy it. I don't know how blacklist-happy IW is compared to other brands.

The rest of the time, it depends on what the item is and how it disappeared:
- If it's a recent (re)release, super hyped up and sold out within minutes of opening, they're quite likely to do a second round or an MTO.
- If it's a seasonal item, they'll hide the listing from the shop and bring it back next year (they're currently doing it with the spring/summer items)
- If it's a regular release, not that popular, and it sold out, chances are it's gone for good.

They sometimes have summer/winter restocks, like they did today, but usually yeah, once it's out of stock, it's either gone or goes into lucky packs if it never actually sold out.

Other anon here... Kidsyoyo's reputation was actually built because they made the closest, best, most solid replica of AP's Carnival jsk. The post might still be up on egl if no one's bothered to delete it, I think it compared two replicas with the original and kidsyoyo's was so solid and so close to the original it impressed a lot of girls. Carnival is an applique dress on velvet with tons of non-print details so it's a very far cry from today's print replicas, every part had to be sourced and pieced together carefully, which is what made it impressive.

I thought I mentioned this directly since that's why they're regarded as pretty good quality, but now I'm reading back my comments and it looks like I kind of missed mentioning it, my bad.

For what it's worth, when egl placed the ban on replicas, this particular coat was considered not a replica because design knockoffs aren't replicas, plus the embroidery, the extra emphasis on the violin theme (there was also a wooden violin accessory somewhere), and plus some of the details on the pockets and lace gave the coat a completely different feel, much the same way dresses commonly may have the same or similar cuts but different prints make it a different dress. I guess that's up to you whether it's okay or not, though.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah, when I was going through qcute posts I noticed a lot of requests for that AP replica and found it surprising as someone still pretty new to the fashion from the point of view where replicas have always been frowned upon. That said, I feel like even though that specific coat is a design replica they did at least try to make their own like you said with the violin theme and all. I think the dealbreaker for me is going to be whether it's real rabbit fur or not- even if I did decide to get the original MM design instead, the pink is too dusty and closer to grey than the warmer dusty pink I'm looking for.

There was a time when burando didn't do re-releases and didn't really care what secondhand prices for their dresses are. So the replicas were welcomed because even though it was a replica, at least you're not paying $600 for a dress that originally retailed for $300, and has been through at least 3 owners, all of whom had proudly worn it out with photos (increasing the chances of damage). Plus the girls who did buy the original dresses often had trouble tracking down matching accessories.

That gives you some context for the requests at least. I'm so glad brands are doing re-releases now, even if we're getting like 100 different colours of Holy Lantern.

Yes. I've seen people hang it up just slightly behind their table and that way they can kind of control who actually touches it. Some people do hang it in plastic bags. And they have signs up and stuff.

Thing is, at a con swap where people know what jfash is you're more likely to find someone who knows how expensive and delicate brand is. Less so at a normie flea market. Idk about other people but I usually go to a flea market to find deals and idk how receptive normies might be to dropping $$$ on brand when it's a fashion they know nothing about.

I would suggest sticking to one or two colors that work for all of those styles to start with. Black is a given, and then maybe wine or navy depending on what you like. Many accessories are tied to a very specific style, but there are also a lot that aren't that you can go for. I would suggest staying away from regular headbows, but flower combs/clips are very versatile and can fit all of those styles. Rectangle headdresses can also work depending on how you style the rest of the outfit. This is just provided you're aiming for a more toned down look and not the OTT version of either of these styles though. If you want something more extravagant it's going to be very hard to do with a capsule wardrobe.

Adding on to this, makeup and hair can do a lot for your styling. It won't completely change the style of your dress obviously, but it can help a coordinate with a gothic dress and black accessories from a classic brand read as more genuinely gothic, if that makes sense.

Use a small straightener on low heat to bump them, either with the wig on a head or on your own.

I like to split the bangs into two halves horizontally if that makes sense, so you have half the hair at a time to work with. Clip away the upper half.

Start with the underneath half, and take about a one inch piece and use the flat iron to curve it inward, so it curls towards your forehead. Hold the piece in your hand for a few seconds until the hair cools down, otherwise it'll drop the curl. Repeat, then let down the upper section and repeat again. Then comb everything together and use hairspray to help it all stay in place.

I hope that made sense. Its a bit hard to explain without visuals.
Kawaii Pateen has some hair tutorials from Misako, and I believe she shows how she bumps her bangs in some of the videos. You basically want to do the same thing, but work in smaller sections and hold each piece in place until the hair cools because synthetic just behaves a little differently from human hair.

>Don't wish to double post but this board seems very slow and I think I started in the wrong thread for beginners. My first cosplay and building a Protoman from The Protomen and needed to adapt the traditional image of the band.

Just got all this ordered and am going to throw it together in a few days.

I actually made the Protoman helmet but I've got a fuck huge ass beard and it looks really bad with 8 inches of bear hanging out from the front. Plus it made it hard to breath so I got an idea. Revision the revision. That is what the eye patch is for. It is large and blocky and have enough room for me to get it embroidered in red/white/ and yellow for "HOPE RIDES ALONE". Still trying to figure something out for the shield. Either not going to have one or get one of those hard shell forearm protectors motorcycles use and paint it red and white.

Thoughts on the general colors and clothing?

I do, but bloomers and actual panties fit different. bloomers are loose and baggy, and actual panties are close fitting. Plus, if you wear tights and bloomers, it's better to have panties under the tights, also.

If you stay relatively clean down there or don't have a habit of sneeze and oopsing you can probably just wear bloomers.

I wear panties with big ass night time maxi pads and keep backup pads in my bag, especially if it's allergy season.

What's a good way to create a fake cigar?
I realize they can be bought, but I'm looking for something more accurate to pic related. And something I can easily take in an out of my mouth all day without any potential spit build-up. I'd just buy some real ones, but y'know, con rules (assuming they even allow fake ones). And I'd still need a way to set it down somewhere. N-Not that I wanna do Cobra or anything.

I want to change my hair color dramatically (from black to white) and for a long time (it's not for a cosplay, but to have certain aesthetics for a musical band).

>> No.10139857

Without question using a wig will allow you to keep healthier hair. Make sure to use a high quality natural looking one or it will look like shit. Dying you hair white can go wrong in a lot of ways and requires a ton of upkeep. The quality of your hair will definitely suffer, especially if you're going from black to white, ranging from a bit dead to absolutely ruined.

I decided to finally cut my hair from butt-length to something that won't be so heavy on my head, but now I'm looking for lifestyle / classic lolita wig suggestions since I don't have my long brown Asian hair for lolita anymore. Amazon would be nice so I can get them quick for upcoming events but otherwise I can finagle my way around Aliexpress and Taobao if I know the shop names.
