Why is asking for funding different from running a Patreon? AmenoKitarou, Kamui, Cowbuttcrunchies, and a bunch of others from the last thread all take Patreon donations.

CBC donates all of their Patreon money to charity.
Also everyone with a Patreon gives you some type of reward back like costume write ups or tutorials in return for patronage whereas you get nothing back by donating on ko-fi.

All her videos and tutorials are free (save her books, but those are different). Not really crazy to ask for what she calls a "tip" to keep making those.

@trilliumsage is a really good crafter, she doesn't post often like, at all but when she does I can appreciate it. Also I'm a sucker for WoW and shes hot 10/10 would date

Any advice for staying motivated on cosplays? I have so many designs and false starts and I really want to get back into it

>> No.10121116

>>10121087
I have the same problem with basically everything creative, the thing that has worked for me is that I don't allow myself to have more than two projects at a time, including sourcing materials. If I want to start on a project, I first have to finish one. I allow myself to drop a project if I really really don't want to make it anymore but that's only happened once.

>>10121087
Seconding what >>10121116 says about setting a limit for how many projects you allow yourself at a time. I've amassed enough materials for FIVE different cosplays over the last three years, and they all kept getting dropped in priority for more flavor-of-the-month stuff. Luckily, I still feel enthusiastic about those characters, so my 2019 resolution has been that I'm not committing to any new plans (including sourcing materials) until after making at least four of those cosplays.
>making good progress, too

A piece of advice to draw from that, too, is to not get pulled in by FotM. Ride the hype and let it pass over you without feeling the need to throw something out immediately.

Just wanted to share some makers from my local comm since it’s so small and often gets overlooked.

@cheekycheetahcosplay does incredible sculpting and casting work. Her armor is incredibly elaborate

@fabprincesscut makes visually pleasing dresses with a lot of nice embellishments. Her Serenity cosplay is probably my favorite

@kekkuda makes pretty good armor. She made a Dva mech I’m pretty fond of.

@princessmirai does sakizou stuff, good wig work and overall beautifully clean detail work. I think she’s on a pretty promising path.

If you want to take drastic measures, limit yourself to only ONE project at a time. Do not buy any materials for other projects (planning/research/browsing is okay) until your current project is finished. If you lose interest in that one project, let it sit for about a week or two and come back to it. If the motivation doesn't come back, then shelf it. Also ask yourself why you're working or need to commit to a project. Do you like the character? Is it a group cosplay? Is it the hottest most popular thing of now that will change in a month or season? What are the most difficult parts and will constructing them/searching for parts frustrate you?

This can't be said enough.

Passion has to carry you through your process, but sometimes it the flame can go a bit dim when the winds of crafting get rough. Sometimes you have to take a step back to avoid burnout and let the flame reignite. Sometimes when I'm going through trouble, I'll let it sit for a while and then when I'm bored look for solutions to what was bogging me down. Having a new strategy puts the pep back into my step.
