Depends on the material. If it's poly it will probably be fine being washed. Cotton you have to evaluate if you think it will bleed or not and go from there. Cold water always just to be safe and don't put it in the dryer.

I just didn't enjoy this much attention so I toned it way down the next time (very flat classic. IW long dress without a petticoat). Just mentioning this so you can decide whether you'd like the attention or not. It definitely wasn't my thing but I guess someone else might enjoy it.

Yes, to a degree. Bows that stand upright like the AP one on the left are very sweet in nature and would look out of place in many classic or gothic coords. That said, there are head-eating bows that aren't flat but aren't upright either, like pic related, which imo can fit in any substyle depending on the styling.

Gulls, help, I've never bought shoes online before!

I wear an 8.5 US womens shoe size (24.5cm). For some shoes I can wear an 8/24, if it isn't a super narrow shoe.

I'm buying some shoes from two brands that only sell whole sizes (size 8 or size 9). 8 might be too narrow though they don't look like it from the pictures, and I'm worried 9 will be too big (but I guess I can always wear extra thick socks or something). Is it best to just go half a size smaller, or should I go half a size bigger?

I don’t like it. 2 reasons why. 1. It never looks as dressy or it’s the wrong kind of fancy, it nearly always looks more prom or brides-maid-like, 2. Because then there’s nothing between you and the brand to catch sweat, deodorant, etc. An under-layer of some kind, thinnest cotton or linen even...is better than a bolero over. I know 99% of people do not dry clean their brand after every wearing and it’s not even recommended, and most of you are too cheap and lazy to have a clothing steamer...but I have a tender nose and a LOT of y’all frankly stank, especially when gathered together in close quarters ...so something washable/frequently cleanable worn underneath is pretty much needed for JSK.
This is also why I don’t buy used OP from western sellers.

Side-note: this topic of hot weather and blouse alternatives comes up every year without fail and the answer is always the same. Jsk are best with a blouse. For those of you perpetually blouse-avoiding persons living in hot climates, who among you does NOT simply go from house to car to venue, all with aircon blasting so only (sensibly) spending mere minutes outside in the heat when it’s sweltering? Plan for it, and avoid spending time outdoors in lolita in the hottest months, maybe.

Switch to a lightweight half-wig or extensions, use thinner leg-wear, possibly use a hoop instead of petti, lighten your coat of base makeup, all of those are viable solutions too.

These are my AP tea parties after wearing them only thrice. I bought them new, although admittedly not directly from AP. I rely on public transportation and walk a lot, and also live in a place with humid weather so these factors probably contributed but I'm very disappointed when I've bought $20 shoes from Aliexpress that still look new after a year of wear. The key is avoiding moisture. Cool, dry, and dark for storage. You can also spray them with water repellent spray, but definitely let them dry out after walking long periods if your feet sweat a lot (and even if they don't). You can also use silica packets and the original papers stuffed in the shoe to help remove excess moisture and keep the shape. If they are stored in high humidity, they will eventually peel.

Avoid walking in puddles and throughly clean and dry them if they do get wet.

Is the waist actually sitting at your waist? Unfortunately some girls just have longer torsos and their boobs just hike the dresses up even more, so they end up looking fat because their boobs are shoved into the waist and the dress doesn't hit their actual waist. Unfortunately in this case the solution is to go for the jsks that have adjustable shoulder straps so that they can be lengthened to sit at the correct places on your body.

If the dress is actually hitting your actual waist, just too loose, you should be able to pull the waist tie tighter to pull it in a bit. The back will look a bit wrinkled but nothing too bad.

Probably depends a lot on the people you hang around, you should be able to judge if any of them will get mad that you're a "pure" brandwhore.

So far as the internet goes, the little details on replica shoes are really hard to tell, especially at the image sizes most people post to insta at, and most people don't really have shoe colours memorised as much they do dress releases. So long as you keep it on the downlow, these aren't your only pair, and don't promote either replica or anti-replica, most likely you won't get any attention for owning one pair of replica shoes.

Personally speaking I'd stay away from replicas because I find the originals are usually higher quality and more comfy, but to be really fair I quit after one particularly cardboardy pair of SS tea parties way back in the day, so maybe they've improved now.

Is it okay to ship lolita brand clothes in plastic shipping bags? From talk in my comm I always got the impression that boxes were the only acceptable way to ship expensive dresses but all my most recent CC purchases were shipped in bags, and boxes of the right shape are kind of a pain in the ass to find around here unless you’re buying 50 at once.

I personally have shipped some brand in those plastic shipping bags. I don't think it should be a problem as long as the bag is study and very securely packed.

>> No.10115752

>>10115724

The cardboard of the box easily adds to the shipping weight, if the seller is smart, it'll be first thing they ditch as it allows them to offer lower shipping to the buyer. So long as the packaging is secure with multiple layers, and anything actually fragile does get a box and bubblewrap, it's smarter to request shipping without a heavy box eating up all your shipping money. It's not like boxes are more secure, they can still be squished under a foklift or drowned in puddles allowing dirty water to leak into your clothes.

I'd actually understand it better if they're talking about "expensive dresses" as in "expensive dresses bought directly from brand stores" -- if you're directly buying a $300 and up dress from a brand store, paying more than $30 in shipping and handling alone, then yes, I'd expect a box, and also some extras like shopping bags, notes from IW, stickers from AP, flyers and random cards from Meta or Miho Matsuda, even Korean indies and taobao brands often send little art cards. That's the premium experience of buying from brand and the lack of a box would definitely ruin the impression of luxury buying.

Secondhand, though, especially cheap secondhand -- I don't expect a box, and I don't send any either.

I'm going to be cutting most of my hair off soon because it's extremely damaged and I just want to start off with a clean slate. It'll be great for my hair, and I do plan on styling it as cute as possible while it's super short.
However, I know that super short hair doesn't really go with lolita. Wigs are highly uncomfortable for me, and I wear lolita daily (also quite casually, no need for a big wig).
Should I just not give a shit and rock my short hair with whatever I wear? I wear oldschool and sweet. Oldschool I'm not so worried about, but I feel like such a lack of hair will look odd with a big headbow in sweet.
Does anyone have any advice? I don't post my photos online, so I don't care what people on the internet think, I'm just worried my hair won't match the lolita aesthetic whatsoever and will look out of place and I'll have to wear a wig.

Generally speaking, short hair can look adorable with large bows if your hair has some volume to it, but if your hair isn't voluminous or if you feel like you can't pull off big bows with it, you can wear smaller bows, hair clips, or maybe hats and berets until your hair grows long enough to "support" big bows again.

pics would help but I'd still wear a blouse. One of AP's CDC jsk styles had chiffon on the jsk straps, Meta has done similar, and model pictures always use blouses. If you don't wear a blouse it just makes it look like a poofy normie dress imo.

>>10118529
It depends on what shoes and accessories you're putting with it; decorative shoes or boots might help balance it but in the case of something like BMV it could look chunky or off as far as color blocking goes. At the very least match the color of your shoes to the main color of your dress and use both colors (white and main color) for your purse and it should tie together alright.

It depends on how large, anon. If you're a bro-lita, puffed shoulders and large collars can just add to the width and make you look even larger. Large sleeves like lantern and hime styles are better for that.
If you're overall a small lady but with proportionally larger shoulders, it can help disguise your proportions by making it look like it's just the poof of the blouse/collar and not your shoulders themselves.
More voluminous hairstyles will always be more flattering to large shoulders as well.

Just keep in mind you want to put larger things *next* to things you want to look smaller, not *on* them and you'll be good.

That's just off white. I'd advise against mixing off white with ivory unless you can make it look intentional, i.e. balancing out the ivory like you would any other color. It'll be a challenge but it can be done if you're careful and use things that match. If your skirt is the only piece in the coord that's ivory, while everything else is off white or gold, it might not look very good but again, depends a lot on what you have in mind. I think you have the right idea in your last comment, get the items in hand, put them next to each other in good lighting and then really, really LOOK to see if they look obviously different or have different undertones. Personally I'd ignore anything where you need the "right light" to see a difference in colour, but on the other side of the scale, if it only looks like the same colour under some particular light, then treat it as two different colours.

If it looks different, then just treat them as two distinctly different colours and balance them accordingly. eg, if you coording a yellow skirt with a white blouse, you might go with yellow heabow and yellow shoes to balance out the colour, and white tights to echo the white blouse. Similarly, if you have an ivory skirt, you do ivory shoes and headwear to balance it out, then cream tights to echo the cream blouse. Just think of them as two distinctly different colours, and make sure all the other supporting items keep to that colour scheme, and it'll look okay.

Try not to add cool white into the mix, cool white has blue undertones so it's the one thing that'll either look grey, or make your cream/ivory/warm white look dirty. Stark white is ok if you're sure it's stark white.

re your original question, the skirt should be darker than the blouse. The reverse just has a tendency to look "off" in most of the coords I've seen, I really don't know why, it just does.

Ivory or cream accented with gold is a nice colour scheme, you run the risk of looking like an antiqued wedding dress though. Personally I'd add a touch of brown or red (like brown shoes and bag) just to break the colour a little bit.

>> No.10119276

A really comfortable stay with cheap to average priced food, hostel or low-end hotel lodgings would be around $100. If you're staying within Tokyo, the subway will usually cost less than $5 per day.

But, as with everything, a lot depends on your itinerary. You could make things so much cheaper if you're fine with staying at a capsule hotel, and some kombini meals can go under $10, which makes it possible to spend around $50-ish per day, I just don't know how enjoyable that is, since half the point of being in Japan is access to delicious fresh food, and having the privacy of your own room is different from staying in a capsule.

What I'd suggest is keeping a worksheet of all the places you want to go and note down what you want to see and how much they cost. For eg, since you said you like historical/pop-culture stuff: a maiko dress up, a full set kaiseki meal or a stay at a full service bath house ryokan (usually they'll also provide meals) is easily well over $200. Trips out of Tokyo/wherever (for eg if you really want to visit Kamakura or Mt Fuji) will cost extra again for the transportation (and additional lodgings, if you're doing overnight).

Dessert OP. It's released pretty often, so there are multiple versions of it. This video is from 2011, so this is probably the 2011 release.

Is there a place to buy classical puppets pettis where the shipping isnt $25 CAD and takes 50 days to arrive?

I recently bought a lot of old school things, most over 12 years old. Some of them are kinda musty, as vintage clothing tends to get, though otherwise in great condition... is there some way to get the musty smell out? I like looking like an old doll, not smelling like one.

I want to order a bag off taobao, but anons are always saying that it's a waste of money to just order one thing.
Is it really that bad? Is shipping going to screw me either way? I just want this one bag goddammit

It's not worth it, that's why people still use aliexpress. Maybe you can organise a group order in your comm. What bag is it? I live in Europe and for me it can be cheaper to buy the original bag from Japan than the design replica from taobao.

For whatever reason, I think I'm taking my measurements wrong. To make sure I'm measuring myself right, I take my measurements and then compare them to what it says on my sewing patterns that I've made before. When I match up my measurements to the pattern, it says I'm a US 10/12, but I've made the pattern in a US 4/6 and it fits fine and is not tight whatsoever. Should I just stop trying to measure myself and just go with the measurements on the sizing chart that corresponds to my size or just go with what I actually measured irl? I just don't wanna fuck up my online purchases lol
(Also maybe I should post this in the handmade thread?)

They wear Japanese normie clothing. You could watch some jdrama with housewives in it to get inspired. Like Uchi no Otto wa Shigoto ga Dekinai or Kazoku Game.

I've lived in a very dry place most of my life. My husband might need to move us for work and this place is very humid even in the winter. Is there anything I should know about caring for my lolita wardrobe in a humid place? What can I do to protect my clothes from getting damaged? I'm very worried about it since I've never had to worry about humidity.

buy a dehumidifier. and get used to sweating in the summer.

Is there a shipping service specifically for lolita/AP? Or is there a ss you'd reccomend?

Not really J-Fash, but doesn't deserve it's own question.

I think I bought a OTK/Thigh highs, but it turns out it's a pantyhose. Given a fabric shear and some afternoon sewing, can I turn them into makeshift thigh highs? Gods I even make sure it was a thigh high, damn it.

>> No.10125896

>>10125580
You can turn tights into thigh highs with some fray check on the cut edges, but you will need some kind of garter or something to hold it up as they won't have the same sort of stretchy band around the top that a sock or thigh high would.
