I got a new dress recently, wine with a white bib and white cuffs, and I just washed it (following instructions, cold water, hand wash) and the wine still ended up bleeding onto the white and I'm at a loss. Google hasn't been helpful.

The dress is still damp to avoid setting in the stain, but I'm not sure the best way to remove the stain without risking more color bleed from getting the wine fabric wet. Last time I had a color bleed stain it was on a plain white blouse so I could just treat the whole thing.

Any tips on how to remove the stain?

Honestly, I've shaved my arms since I started shaving my legs. It just made sense to me and I find it kind of strange how acceptable it is for women to have hairy arms in the US, but I don't say that to anyone of course, it's their choice. If you're blonde you don't have to do it constantly, I go about a week or two before reshaving my arms since the hair is a lot thinner and sparser than on your legs.

If you have trouble with more bony spots like your elbow, wrist bone, knuckles, etc, I use my eyebrow/face razor to clean those up so I don't worry about cutting myself.

You should get your priorities in order first. You're 18 not 8. Stop listening to everything your parents say and buy a damn coord. This is what lolita is about, actually living.

I feel so bad for this generation raised by crazy helicopter parents...

Also yeah it will be pretty ita if you just show up in a sad jsk and nothing else. Follow your dreams anon.

>> No.10097941

>>10097883
Anon, do your parents control your finances in anyway? Or is it more so "Not under my roof" kinda not allowed.

If the former, I urge you to separate your finances asap, you're an adult and your parents shouldn't be dictating what you can do with your money. As long as you don't go overboard, you should be allowed to buy lolita. (Also, inexpensive taobao is always cheaper than handmade due to the cost of fabric here vs china)

If the latter, still gross, but for blouses and footwear you might be able to (carefully) thrift those items. If you have a full coord, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to go to meets, but if you don't some comms might hold "newbie friendly" meets on occasion that you can attend! Obviously this depends on the comm and who's hosting events, best always double check with the host. If and when you do attend meets, don't be afraid to take concrit as well, handmade lolita is a finicky beast and advice helps you get better.

rIP SORRY GUYS I DO HAVE A BLOUSE I'M TRYING VERY HARD TO NOT BE ITA I just meant that I only have one "main" piece lol
It's more of a "not under my roof" sorta thing and they basically judge everything I buy in the mail but if I make something they see it more as a "costume" and for some reason they're fine with that.
Tbfh they drive me fucking nuts and I can't wait til I move out in a year and a half
I just meant that I'm worried I'll judged for wearing the same jsk to every meet lol

You should be fine then, as long as you don't show up ita or stinky (had a past issue with that myself sadly). I have a person in my comm who's a new lolita and only has 1 coord at the moment, and nobody I know has an issue with her only having one coord. They all know she's new, so we don't give her grief for it.

What you can do is experiment with different accessories to keep it from being too samey-same every meet! Sometimes I'm surprised just how much the accessories change up a coord.

(Also good luck on sewing your OP! I sew dresses sometimes and sleeves are the bane of my existence)

If you know how to sew and would be happy to be a handmade lolita that's also okay, but if that was the case I don't think you would have written here.

The 2016 barrette is definitely different, though. It's seems to use less fabric as it is smaller/shorter and doesn't pay any mind towards using the whipped stripe portion of the print for the centre band.

Honestly if some normie muggle walked into a lolita store the shopgirls do sometimes think they're there to gawk, try shit on for laughs, destroy expensive merch and and generally be a waste of time.

You get a better experience if you're wearing lolita, or namedrop/recognise some of the prints, or at the very least look interested like you want to start the fashion and will definitely come back to buy stuff from the store.

I mean, you could be rude and just be annoying/annoyed at the shopgirls, but politeness is a social lubricant and that makes the shopping experience so much more pleasant, so it always feels better if you make them feel like they're not wasting their time on a rude customer, and you'll also feel like they're not being rude and condescending to you. Small tiny change in your attitude and now it's a win-win for both parties rather than an ordeal.

Going in and trying things on will likely go over fine, but to be polite and respectful of the shop staff you should keep a few things in mind:

-Show up in lolita. (Can be casual or any brand, just try to look classy and like you're not a rando or a new ita)
-Make sure you are already wearing a blouse so they know you'll have that on when trying dresses
-Check for signs/ask if there are rules ie no shoes, makeup bags to put over your face to protect the garment from getting makeup stains when you're putting it on, etc.
-If you don't buy any dresses, perhaps consider buying something else instead. Both stores should be well stocked in other things that are reasonably priced that you can make good use of! Bloomers, socks, shoes (brand shoes are well worth the price,) jewelry, hair accessories and/or novelty items (parasols, notebooks, stationary, etc) will all be under the $50 range (exception of shoes) and can be very versatile with the rest of your wardrobe. How do you refuse people who want to try on things at a swap meet without offending them? I posted a few cutsews and cardis to my sales album and several overweight girls in my comm have commented that they’d like me to take these to the swap meet so they can try them on. The pieces are stretchy but not so stretchy that they’d fit these girls without likely getting damaged. I have no problem with people well below the max measurements trying stuff on, but would it be better to just blanket refuse all try-ons? I can’t think of a way to allow certain people to try things on while refusing others without hurting feelings.

At a previous swap meet one of the girls who commented tried on a fully shirred JSK I was selling and then brought it back sheepishly saying it didn’t fit. When I got home I noticed that some of the thread attaching the elastics to the bodice had snapped and some lace along the bust had ripped, so now I’m a little paranoid about even letting them try on “plus size friendly” pieces.

I thought so. It's going to be awkward either way though because the norm in my comm is to let people try stuff on and many people will say they like swap meets specifically because of the trying on aspect. I guess I'll just have to suck it up and accept that fewer sales is better than damaged items.

The problem with the damaged JSK is that she never bought it in the first place and I only noticed the damage much later. If she'd bought it, put it on, damaged it and then tried to get her money back I definitely would've told her tough shit. Unfortunately I can't prove that she damaged it, but it was fine when I checked it before the meet and she was the only one who really touched it afterwards.

So I recently bought the Higanbana print from IW's winter sale and was trying to find some artificial spider lillies to wear as a hair accessory...turns out they don't really exist.

I have pretty limited options and I'm not sure what would look best. Pretty much just Hawaii luau lillies or jewel hairpins that might be akward to work with.

What I've found:
https://www.alohaoutlet.com/shops/108/en/itemdetail.aspx?iid=29930 (this is the size S)
https://www.alohaoutlet.com/shops/108/en/itemdetail.aspx?iid=24909
https://www.hulaflowers.com/product/ssl-01-loose-100-4-silk-single-spider-lily-100-pcs/
I could buy these in 05 or 10 to make something but admittedly I've never made an accessory before...
https://www.etsy.com/listing/635661188/red-spider-lily-hairpin-magic-lily-hair
These are by far the nicest but also a bit awkward with that V shaped pin and I have incredibly straight fine hair, always having to do a bun/updo with Higanbana would get boring.

What do you guys think is the best option? I feel like the clips might be best since I could also attach them to hats, but I'm unsure if they look too fake or that's just the impression given by the website.

Didn't know where else to put this, so just throwing it here. Need some advice about a purchase from LM. Bought an older AP dress (not tremendously old, has the bow and crown logo) listing stated the lace had yellowed a little and it was in worn condition. Was going for a good price so I bought it. It was a smooth transaction and shipping was fairly quick. The dress arrives and boy.. the lace wasn't 'yellowed a little' it was straight up brown on the arm pits and chest area. It also came without waist ties which wasn't stated. I check the washing label and it says the dress is machine washable so i'm like, theres no excuse? It also has food spill stains on the front bottom which can literally come off with a wipe/ wash so theres not really an excuse for the condition. I went through the sellers purchases and when they purchased it the lace wasn't at all yellow and the previous seller actually stated it didn't come with waist ties. So the seller I got it from obviously wore it, yellowed the lace and didn't care enough to wash it/ state it wont come with waist ties. It smells too. I'm just disappointed? Would you guys leave negative feedback? Its in a really gross condition and I don't know how people aren't embarrassed selling it like that? Especially when it was in a fair condition when they bought it themselves? They gave me positive feedback so I feel bad even though i'm a little unhappy with the purchase.

If you haven't left feedback yet, I would contact the seller and ask for at least a partial refund. Threaten a paypal dispute if you must, because quite frankly what she pulled was unacceptable. Ask once, if she refuses ask again but emphasize how unhappy you are with the condition of the dress and the fact that you'd open a paypal dispute.

If she refunds you, give her neutral or negative feedback, if you need to open a dispute that's 100% grounds for negative feedback.

If things get out of hand, I find contacting the LM facebook page to be helpful as well.

It doesn't matter if she left you positive feedback already, you don't owe her anything, she didn't do you any favors. It's a business transaction, no more, no less, and if a store tried selling items with stains that bad, you bet your ass they would be out of business.

You can iron velvet BUT it must be through a damp pressing cloth, from the wrong side, with a fluffy towel over your ironing board to preserve the pile. There are proper metal velvet boards for this use, which may be worth investing in if you have a reasonable amount of velvet in your wardrobe. Shower method is completely useless for heavier fabrics like velvet unless you happen to take your showers at near-burning temperature; you're better to use a steam iron or an actual steamer if you have one. Regarding flattened pile - it depends WHY it's flat - if it's actually worn, nothing you can do to put extra fibres back where there are none, if it's flat from things sitting on it you can possibly use the aforementioned velvet board and steam shot it with an iron from the wrong side, basically encouraging the pile to stick up again with gravity + directional steam

Bear in mind though that most lolita 'whites' are actually off white, so if you're anal about colour matching you may be bothered by that. If you want more lolita-specific tights, mu-fish on taobao is quite popular and there is a whole taobao thread and document to answer noob questions about how to order from there.

I've tried mixing a serum in it to make it less full coverage and it still looks like shit.

I have this problem too and my skin is well moisturized and exfoliated and it still happens. I've tried several different foundations, with and without primers, so I'm thinking maybe I need something better to apply it with. neither my fingers nor the included sponges tend to help.. I honestly can't see how a beauty blender is any different than the sponges I have, so I haven't tried, but maybe I should. ugh.

Fuckloads of moisturizer and don't use any 24hr foundations, they're mostly designed for oil control and will dry you out like anything. I think even with moisturizer, if you tend to be dry then you should really avoid longer-wear foundations, go for something more dewy/moisturizing.

In terms of what moisturizer to use, make sure you have heavier creams and an occlusive in your usual routine e.g. a petroleum jelly type thing to keep the moisture in. Some people find oils helpful as well. Obviously occlusives should be reserved for night time rather than right before trying to put makeup on over the top.

A silicone "sponge" was a game changer for me. Those stupid regular sponges and applicators just suck up all the product and leave very little on your face. I used to have this problem. To add to all the exfoliate and moisturize comments...

Wear less makeup. Seriously. If your makeup is caking you're putting it on way too thick.

1. Make sure your skin and hands are clean before you put on any makeup. Don't scrub roughly, just wash with water and a light cleanser.
2. Primer over your whole face and neck (I use one from Hard Candy) focusing especially on areas with deeper pores or blemishes.
3. Use a tissue to dab/wipe off any excess primer.
4. Spot conceal. Lightly.
5. Apply a LIGHT coat of foundation to your whole face and neck. Remember the point of foundation is to even out your skin tone, not to give you a whole new one. It should be a very light, translucent coat, through which you can still see some of the natural variations in your skin.
6. Firmly dab your whole face with a tissue to pick up excess concealer + foundation.

You have dry skin. You don't need powder, except on oily spots. After this, you can do whatever light contouring, blush, etc. you want.

I dab my face again with a clean tissue after doing my various powders just to pick up any excess, and then again after my makeup is done and I've put on setting spray, just to make sure everything is really set in place..

Usagiyouhinten was really nice about it when I emailed them, like you I offered to pay for shipping again and I also chose a better shipping method this time (from airmail to EMS).
In the end it all worked out but it was a real bummer I had to pay for shipping twice because PostNL (my country's postal service) has idiots in their employment and they didn't even answer my complaint ffs.
I guess that CC will react the same, will probably have no issues resending as long as you pay for shipping again.

And for new items I prefer Atelier Pierrot, unless they don't stock the item and WW Fleur does.

I have (presumably but idk from your drawing) the same bangs and problem you have. What makes my bangs curl out weird is hair whirls. The easiest way to fix it is to take a hot shower and IMMEDIATELY style them when I get out. The easiest way to do this is to blow dry them with a round brush as others have mentioned BUT in a pinch I can comb them down and then at an angle side to side from the outside inward (if that makes sense) to get a similar look.

Honestly, though, you're better off just getting a cheapo blow dryer from good will or something and learning how to use it.

What shape is it when you stack them all together? Because rectangle skirts all have a limit so it's just gonna look overstuffed, whereas with circle skirts, if the petticoats already make a ball shape then you'll just have an inside-out skirt sitting on top of a ball of pettifloof.

For full circle skirts, IW has a ballerina check jsk that looks like a full circle. Alternatively, Meta's pintuck jsk has so much fabric in it the final tiers are actually wider than a circle skirt (the beginning tiers are narrower, though -- it's a tiered skirt after all).

If you have a ball shaped petticoat, you can try heavy velvet dresses, they're notorious for weighing down petticoats. Go for older winter releases, the pile will be thicker (and the fabric heavier)

When I was a noob way back in 2008 the rule was already that the skirt should ideally be only two fingerwidths (not lengths) above your knees, if it ends halfway up your thighs you'd get a lot of commentors talking about how it's too short and looks like "the other lolita".

I own some AP miniskirts and they work better if you're slim enough to wear them low on your hips. Wear something that's long enough to cover the waistband/doesn't have your tummy showing, and generally treat it like a low-waisted coord instead of the usual normal-waist/high-waist dresses that's more common.

I'm 1m58. Here's a pic, I'm not wearing a petticoat because the only one I have for now feels way too big, but I'm wearing bloomers. I actually don't know what skirt it is, I bought it secondhand and can't find it on lolibrary... If someone knows I'd be very grateful to know. It's not even 45cm either actually, it's more like 40.

>>10107334
Ah, I figured it would probably be more easy to use as a casual girly item. Made me a bit sad because it was the very first brand piece I bought, haha.

>>10107731
I see! It's quite tight so I can't really wear it lower, unfortunately. It's definitely shorter than 2 fingers width.

You have nice legs so it looks really good on you. If you’re uncomfortable with the length you could wear tights instead of socks, but I personally think these IW miniskirts aren’t intended for the traditional lolita look.

Drop your dieting secrets please, your legs are super nice lol.

I'd second wearing thighs instead of leaving them bare; that usually helps with feeling less naked/like you aren't wearing something slightly too short.

I was able to buy my holy grail dress recently, and I've known for a long time there's two versions of it, but I've never really known the history of the dress?

The first release is Blossom Princess and the second is Romantic Blossom Princess (Sorry, releases are flipped in the image). The only differences I'm aware of is the original release has pearls on the straps of the JSK, and a floral themed lace on the chest (the second release has a different pattern on the lace).

Is there any significance to the two versions? I heard somewhere that one of the releases was only in Japan? I don't see this dress around often, so I really have no idea.

Does anyone know what happened to fuckyeahotomekei on Tumblr? Did they get a virus/hacked or something, and is it worth it to keep following them or is their blog ruined for good?

Is anyone else having issues with lacemarket? Items I relisted recently still have zero views, which is unusual especially considering the fact that some of them have gotten more likes. I even tried visiting an item page myself, but the counter didn't change. I also haven't gotten any mails about items that match my saved searches today, and I usually get at least two a day.

Are there any quality "normie" j-fashion brands that don't specialize in lolita, but are detail and quality oriented like for example MM? I lost interest in lolita, but it's hard for me to resign from the quality some brands were able to offer with their garments.

Axes Femme for sure. Their detailing is lovely. On the more expensive and less “normal” end there are indie brands like Seraphim and bullion.

>> No.10108429

>>10108420
Meta and IW list the cm measurement of their shoe sizes iirc, I don't know if S/M/L shoe sizes are fairly consistent between brands so your best bet is to measure your feet and look for cm measurements with the brand you're looking at.

Question: I know lolita has roots in visual kei aesthetics, but some people also say lolita evolved from natural kei/pink house style, and then Milk and Jane Marple style.

Is that true? It's hard to look at angelic pretty and moi meme moitie and think they came from the same source.

>> No.10108483

>>10108468
To put it in a very simplified way - Classic and sweet can be traced back to natural kei/Milk/JM etc., and gothic lolita is more rooted in visual kei, so not quite the same source. Mind you this is specific to aesthetics, it's not to say that some sweet lolitas weren't also into visual kei.

that is what i thought. gothic had more roots to VK and sweet and classic came from the natural kei side of things and eventually it all sort of converged in the end.

Lolita originally came from MILK (they had a collection called Lolita in the 80s or something). Jane Marple came from MILK too. Moitie is a mix of gothic and lolita, it was created when lolita was already a more established style.

Two things;

Has anyone got the translated instructions for washing dresses from that Japanese magazine scan? I've lost mine.

How do you make open toed shoes look good with lolita? How do you do legwear right without looking like a tourist from the midwest on a boardwalk in Honolulu wearing socks and sandals?

Depends a lot on WHICH open-toed shoes and which legwear. If you're going for knee high socks and birkenstocks then that's not going to work. But a nice peep toe shoe looks great with tights.

Re: Open toed shoes: If you don't like the socks+sandals look, you can opt out of legwear, especially if the weather is really warm. If your shoes are cute enough I think you could pull it off just fine, pic related.
I don't have any example coords at hand but it's possible that the half sheer tights and stockings that were popular a while back (think Baby's meme socks) would also look good with it. Alternatively, there are also toeless pantyhose (inb4 Frances lol) if you want to wear some form of legwear without the unfortunate socks+sandals look, but that's just an idea.

Use chrome with the google translate tool added (PC version. Mobile you'll have to manually copy paste into some translate app). Once you do the entire sales pages becomes some capslock of telling you it's the tail payment, don't buy it if you didn't buy the deposit, they will not send out the dress, yadda yaddda.

Also, calm down, lurk moar and try looking up tutorials. Forwarding has its problems, SS has its fees, some items can't be shipped, and you're gonna run headlong into most of these. Take the time to look at what other people are doing and ask them how they're doing it instead of just running here everytime you see something cute. This time you got the dress listing wrong, next time could be a mistake that costs you an extra $50 fees.
