So what is EGA's relation to lolita specifically? Would aristocrat be considered a substyle to lolita or just a sister style? I understand that ouji is related to lolita, but a lot of people don't really consider it to be a lolita substyle. So is there a clearly defined line between lolita and EGA? I know they come from very similar origins, but I'm curious as to how others would consider them.

When I say EGA, I'm referring mainly to the more femme aristocrat. I know Gothic aristocrat can be worn by men as well. But would that also be considered ouji fashion? Again, not sure where the line is drawn.

>> No.10078990

>>10078931
I always just assumed the more 'femme' aristocrat is like a slightly more mature, almost watered down equivalent to EGL. There's no petticoat, usually longer skirts and the cutesier details we associate with lolita are replaced with more sophisticated ones. I wouldn't consider it lolita personally. I see it more as sitting somewhere between lolita and the masculine/androgynous side of EGA.

I see ouji as a masculine counterpart to lolita, while EGA is it's own thing that can be both masculine or feminine. All of them are just related to lolita because a lot of brands and pieces are interchangeable between them. Sister styles seems like a good way to put it, same as the way otome is considered in the west.

Personally, I wear both gothic lolita and the feminine aristocrat style you're describing but I've always seen them as seperate things. If I were to wear an outfit like the one you posted I wouldn't consider it lolita even if I'm wearing the same pieces I style in my lolita coords, if that makes any sense. Others might have a different take on it though or see lolita as more of an umbrella.

Did Mana have tailored-to-his-measurements versions of all the Moitie pieces he's modeled or is his waist really thin enough to fit into the dresses as is?

>> No.10079013

>>10078998
Likely tailored, at least for the last few years he was modeling dresses. But even then maybe not - he modeled OPs a lot and very few skirts (the OPs tend to have the largest measurements while the skirts are much smaller). Back in the day though not sure, he was quite slender for a really long time.

>> No.10079024

>>10078998

He's published a note (either in one of the GLBs or his blog, I don't recall which) telling his fans not to send him any clothes. Everything he models is custom made to his size, he does not fit into female size S (which is apparently Moitie's size), so he requests that fans not spend money sending small-sized clothing to him.

I imagine one of the most well-known styles is the male variant of lolita, but maybe you want something less fussy? Menhera and yamikawaii have a boystyle alongside gyaru & mori. Those are just the ones that come to mind. Lolita's variant is often called 'ouji' and for gyaru it's 'gyaruo'. I don't think the styles for menhera or mori have any special name.

What's the difference between a forwarding service and a shopping service?
Which company is reliable in your opinions?

>> No.10079241

Didn’t know where else to put this since there isn’t a Tekko thread. Are they even getting a lolita guest this year? I’m trying to plan out my events for the year and I always love going to Tekko, but the theme is like robots and it doesn’t really seem like they’re getting a big lolita guest this year?

>> No.10079248

>>10079221
A forwarding service is a company that you order the items online and ship to their warehouse, you then pay them to ship your items internationally to you. A shopping service does the buying for you and will ship your items to you for websites that don't take forwarding service orders, international cards, will help you if you don't speak the languages etc. Most shopping services also can bid on auction sites for you and some even do instore services if you want a specific reservation or store exclusive item.

For Japanese stuff Tenso is the most well known and commonly used forwarding service. The company that owns them also runs a buying/shopping service but I wouldn't use them for more limited items since they sometimes work slow depending on your time zone. There are independently run shopping services (usually by foreigners living in Japan) that might do auctions or in store buying if you ask. Tenshishop and mintkismet are examples of this kind of service but I'm not that familiar with them or who's actually available right now since I usually only use forwarding services.

For Chinese/Taobao there are lots of services that will let you either navigate the stores in english or paste in links to what you want and give you a menu of the options in english that you can submit to them so they can buy your items. If you google "Taobao agent" a bunch will come up, I've never used one so can't speak for my own experience but it shouldn't be hard to find reviews of the different companies.

I've been into lolita for about a month and a half now and I've been wondering, so I thought I'd ask here since it's still a newfag question. What's up with how crazy people are for Honey Cake JSK? People just think it's cute, and possibly a bit silly considering the pancake mix bag that's a part of the collection which is also incredibly coveted. Sometimes certain pieces or prints suddenly gain popularity long after their sale time, and they become more coveted the less readily available it is. It's kinda funny to see considering the fact that HC was unpopular when it was released iirc.

The stock photos and advertisements weren't particularly exciting, and I think the yellow colourway and bag were particularly hated on at the time. It wasn't clearly a 'bright'/contrast print like Star Night Theatre or Marionette or a pastel explosion print, it was kinda in-between and looked more like a rip-off of Meta's Honey Picnic print from the year before. This was still the OTT split pastel wig era (actually just split hair in general, people were dyeing half their hair blonde in both gyaru and lolita comms and there were some gothic lolitas using split black and blue) with the 'it' prints and dresses being things like Milky Planet, Marionette Girl, and the Sugary Carnival re-release.
Even after people got it, it took a little while (for the Western market at any rate) for them to decide they liked it...and of course since it had been unpopular there weren't many floating around. Cue second-hand bloodbath.

Back again. I think I'm going to go with the plain boater and this ribbon (which matches the wristcuffs) and this eyelet lace as a trim.
I can tie the ribbons of the head bow itself so it streams down almost like a Madeline style hat, just using some kind of pin to keep it onto the hat (without damaging the bow).
Thoughts?

They're pretty heavy, sadly. I guess it's time to start pinning those pieces back until they grow out long enough to become face-framing pieces.

>> No.10080679

>>10080634
Just grow it out and do a sidesweep or sidepart, then trim the bangs when it’s long enough to shape the side bits into a face frame. If you only grow out the side bits it looks like a bad haircut, and picking out the bangs to trim is difficult when the length is too similar. It’s easy to style a long fringe in a jfash/lolita way while you’re growing it all out.

It's a pretty big deal Anon. If you're willing to take it on as a project piece (meaning there might be costs for a professional to fix it) then sure. But keep in mind that the only way to really fix ripped seams is to create a new one by taking the dress in, and you'll probably need to do that on nearly every seam. Can you afford to lose 4+ inches from the bodice and still fit? As for the lace, depending on where it is you can move it around or remove it entirely.

Tl;dr yeah you could fix it up most likely but it would be less mending, more a complete overhaul and if a pro gets involved it could cost you.

>> No.10081459

Big deal. Since you're posting here I'd assume you're not into sewing, so I'll try to describe a couple of things.

If the fabric has actually torn, has holes in it or been cut off, it just can't be superglued back together, there's no way to fix torn/cut fabric. This is a pretty big dealbreaker, as even if you want to make the dress smaller the way most dresses are sewn means you need to take it apart and re-gather the skirt, then re-serge everything. Tailor will probably charge a pretty penny for it, be prepared for that.

If they carefully used a seam ripper to open up some seams (for whatever reason), then it's less of a big deal, but still a big deal to sew it all back together (for that matter I don't know why they didn't, it has way more value as a fixed up dress than as craft material, unless they don't know how to sew but still ripped the seam anyway, which is a whole other thing).

Lace being damaged and needing replacement is a big deal if it's burando, AP, Moitie and some Meta use custom-made lace that you simply can't find replacement for (unless you go the replica route), IW and Baby use lace that's difficult to find.

If it's not Japanese brand, then it's less of a big deal, you could probably look for some decent lace off taobao and use that as a replacement.

Is there any way to wear a jsk as a skirt without it looking ita or otherwise unflattering? I recently finally got my dream dress but it’s too small in the bust at the moment. Alternatively, are there any tips or tricks anyone has that can somehow add an inch or so to a jsk bust?

>> No.10081787

JSK-as-skirt usually looks shit unless it's fully shirred or designed to be a two-way garment.
There's no magic trick to make an extra inch appear from nowhere, there's only a certain amount of fabric available. Either you lose weight and hope it comes off your boobs, get the dress altered, or see if you can find a really good minimising bra. If it's half shirred and the elastic is really tight (i.e. there's a significant amount of fabric still bunched around the shirring channel when the elastic is maximally stretched) you may be able to get the shirring taken out.

- you can still write in and say you would like to buy that dress, they'll usually try and locate one if there's anything left in their physical stores. Be aware that this is a commitment to buy, not a stock check, so if they find it, you have to buy it.

I can see the struggle. It definitely needs something that shade of pink in the coord, and then mint and white for everything else would be fine. All pink would look weird. All mint is hard to match. Good lord. This isn't actually hard. When in doubt, go back to the basic bitch coord -- a long sleeved white blouse will fit under that OP and goes with the white lace all over the dress. Match with white legwear, either lace tights or with mint/pink print. If you don't have the matching headbow, take the waist tie with you down to the craft shop and find something in matching mint. Make some hair bows out of that, pay some tailor somewhere to make this for you if you can't sew it yourself.

Shoes and bag, pick pastel pink, because hot pink is eye-searing and nobody wants it shoved in their eyeballs. The hot pink on the skirt alone is accent enough, the key is not to perfectly pantone match it, it's to make sure your undertones are similar so your pastel pink actually looks like pink and doesn't look like it's a shoehorned lavender/mauve when put next to the hot pink print.

Throw pearls on. Done. None of these things are even hard to find.

Background info:
I'm using SpreeNow as an SS for taobao. A shipping label for my package was created on 1/19 in Canada (why not China...?) It shows as shipping to my city, but hasn't been received by UPS.

Spreenow now says that they'll open an investigation with their carrier. I really have no hope.

Has anyone ever encountered something like this with them? How long should I wait to file a paypal claim? Can I even file a paypal claim in this situation?

Do western people not like the messy, remake style that jfashion shops like Gunifuni and Southpawcathy make? Spank! Also had this style but they've become more polished over the years. I want to upcycle pieces in a kawaii style and I like the messy, handmade look but I've never seen people outside of Japan wear such things. Opinions?

Imo you're free to create and wear whatever you like. This isn't to my tastes so I have no real opinion on it, but I can definitely see people getting unreasonably booty bothered over this and possibly posting this to the ita thread as a "fairy kei ita" or something; that might be because I've been spending too much time here lately though.

It may not be my style, but I think it's cute enough that I can see people picking up this kind of stuff. The idea of messy handmade stuff kinda reminds me of some of the clothes that are mori kei, just with a kawaii pastelly twist.

Does anyone know how to get wrinkles out of Nameless Poem without a hand steamer? I know its polyester so I'm too scared to iron it and hanging it up in the bathroom with the shower steaming didn't work. Should I just take it to a dry cleaner to get pressed?

>> No.10093665

>>10092904
Pressing cloth!! One of the local seamstresses taught me this - they used to use this technique all the time for fancy wedding dresses with stubborn creases. Put your iron on a medium heat setting and get a thin, damp cotton cloth that's had most of the water squeezed out (a thin flannel or handkerchief is fine but not a huge thick egyptian cotton flannel). Place cloth over the area with wrinkles and iron through it. Repeat as needed (obviously re-wet the cloth). This is pretty much like steaming as the iron should heat up the water in the cloth, which means that your clothing is only getting steam temperatures as opposed to the full blast of the iron. Probably shower steaming didn't work because it wasn't hot enough.

Do you shave your arm hair? I live in a hot as hell place, so summer will be here in a moment and my blouses will all be short-sleeved. I always find myself thinking about whether I should be shaving it or not.

Is it normal for dry cleaners to have to remove buttons to dry clean a dress??

>> No.10094829

What style would 2B's outfit be considered? 9S seems to draw a lot from Ouji aesthetics but 2B seems pretty distinct from goth loli.

>> No.10095126

>>10094470
Yes, but they are supposed to put them back on. There's a tumbling process that can break certain types of buttons.

A need a huge bow for a ponytail, Takane Manaka-style but I have no idea of how to do it, if I should buy a ribbon or a glued bow.

why is it so hard to find cheap cute/casual brands that are either located in the US or ship overseas? i'd prefer just using a single store rather than using taobao or aliexpress

It's just a costume, not lolita at all.

Any specific tips to avoid making -kei looks appear ageplay/ddlgish? Looking for advice on silhouette/coording since I pretty much know to avoid cheap normie brand items.

>>10093991
Try waxing it instead, it grows back softly instead of rough and prickly and if you do it consistently, it should grow back thinner.

This has probablybeen asked before, but
What is the best way larger chested lolitas fit into their brand blouses? I just bought an angelic pretty blouse and it fits everywhere perfectly except for my bust. I feel like a sports bra doesn't work. Maybe i need a tighter one?

Any prescription glasses wearing lolitas here that can tell me where I can find some cute glasses? I had a struggle finding light pink ones amid all the brown/black in my local stores. I really want to get some more colourful frames, from a decent online store. Anyone know any?

Try Zenni maybe? I got a few cute frames from them, including a gold and pink pair!

I got a new dress recently, wine with a white bib and white cuffs, and I just washed it (following instructions, cold water, hand wash) and the wine still ended up bleeding onto the white and I'm at a loss. Google hasn't been helpful.

The dress is still damp to avoid setting in the stain, but I'm not sure the best way to remove the stain without risking more color bleed from getting the wine fabric wet. Last time I had a color bleed stain it was on a plain white blouse so I could just treat the whole thing.

Any tips on how to remove the stain?
