She said it's 100% for other Chinese people and not for export, and something about how most people don't really care if something is designer or not as long as it appears to be designer. Up until you run into a previously ""respectable"" taobao brand that used to create their own stuff suddenly just making a whole release out of pirated replica fabric. Single-handedly brought down the rep of taobao lolita stores by making it even harder to point newbies to stores that definitely make their own stuff, since up until this point you could safely say "this store makes their own stuff" and then suddenly bam, replica print.

A lot of the "legitimate" taobao shops just open another shop to sell replicas on the side so it's never a good idea to support them. Apparently the Chinese who appreciate brand just loathe them and that's why they don't support Chinese brands themselves.

A surprising one that did it was To Alice, which even opened up in Japan and did very well there. Apparently it baffled Chinese lolitas because it's made by "a dirty siscon" brother who sells replicas and helps run To Alice, then the sister gets a lot of the money to buy real brand.

I bought an AP Celestial JSK replica to compare to my real one before. I think the replica shop already shut down (it was called Orange), but frankly the replica was pretty convincing. The main differences were
1) The sheer layer on top of the dress.
Although this layer visually looked the same, the sheer fabric of the replica was scratchier and slightly stiffer, while the original was smooth and soft. However, you would likely not be able to tell without it being put side by side with an original dress and examined.
2) The amount of fabric used
This was mainly noticeable for the sheer layer, but there was less fabric gathered up for it. If the original used 2x the width of the dress to gather into ruffles, the replica only used 1.7x the width of the dress. However, this also was not noticeable unless you compared side by side closely, The printed layer of the dress was fine with the amount of fabric used for the gathering, though.
3) The shape of the dress
The cut of the sheer layer of the dress was a little too small on the bottom, so the sheer layer mushroomed out a tiny bit when worn with a petti, instead of laying nicely like the original. This is probably only noticeable if you're on the larger side.
4) The bows
I've seen this issue with most replicas, but the bow was not as neat as the original bow, and had slightly less structure to it. However, it was not so bad to be noticeable without close inspection.

I actually made a thread about this dress back then, taking close up pictures of it and pretending I was someone who had bought it off lacemarket and wasn't sure if I had been scammed. 100% of the gulls who commented on the thread thought it was the real deal from the pictures I provided of it. I also put it side by side with the real one in another post, without stating that it was a replica, and it wasn't called out Frankly, unless you already knew it was a replica, you probably wouldn't be able to tell even in person.

Translating a review left for the Jewelry Snow replica:
When I opened the package, four buttons immediately fell off. The dress had a strong smoky smell throughout it.
My real dress is still on the way, but I could immediately see that the print was cut off on the bottom.
(Updated review)
1. Neckline bow:
The bow of the replica is shorter, and the snowflake print on the bow is gold/light yellow. The pin is a normal safety pin (not a safety pin with backing).
The real dress has a longer bow in comparison, with white printed snowflakes on the bow, and the pin is a backed safety pin.
2. The dogteeth lace (the trim at the bottom of the sheer layer) is not the same.
3. The transparent buttons are not the same.
4. The print on the skirt:
The print of the replica is gray, the snowflakes are thinner than on the original print and the AP logo is cut off.
The snowflakes of the original are white, the snowflakes are thicker, and the logo is complete with extra space between the bottom of the logo and the lace.
5. The skirt lining is different colors.
The replica is dark navy, while the real dress is a brighter navy.
6. The replica is not up to standard.

Top is the real dress while bottom is the replica for both pictures.

Japanese brands sometimes produce in China these days because unfortunately it isn't usually profitable to produce in Japan and many Japanese factories have closed. You're definitely new because it wasn't always like that. It's part of the fast fashion decline in lolita and China sucking away life from decent, humane factories literally anywhere else in the world. It's a very hard thing to watch, especially for any oldfag in the fashion witnessing quality decline from gorgeous old pieces.

I don't know about anyone else but the little detail of having the buttons swapped out to a plainer one kind of made me mildly mad, like it's almost mocking that anyone who bought a replica only deserves the cheap buttons. If you're referring to the top picture for >>10086410, the white lace is actually the real lace and the silver lace is the replica!

>> No.10086886

>>10086878

Not that one. >>10086413 the two dresses are laid side-by-side and the overlay ribbon marked as 山 (replica) looks distinctly dirty and yellow. It's not even being next to the real thing that makes it look dirty and yellow, the bow laying against its own replica dress trimmed with the whitest lace of purest snow, making the bow look yellowed, dirty and gross by comparison.

Like I get that this is maybe me being overly nitpicky but I just cannot unsee a dirty, ageing, ribbon that was maybe dipped in pee or something. Kind of grateful Jewelry Snow isn't something I'm interested in owning.

The silver lace doesn't really pop anything this bad for me, it's just this yellowed bow that's really gross. That, and the infuriating little plain button.

Alright Racist-chan, whatever makes you feel better. Holding so much resentment towards a race must be exhausting, so let it all out.
Hope you come to the realization one day that the Japanese brands you hold so high up in esteem support Chinese companies, be it in production and labor, sourcing materials, etc. Try not to blindly believe everything sensationalized headlines feed you, either, especially coming from America, a country that literally has a trade war going on with the country in question. I haven’t mentioned replicas at all, and sure, it’s true most replicas come from China. You're playing into their hands, anon. Bodyline is a chinese company. Yan is a chinese name. So that still makes it a chinese company selling replicas to the Japanese, even before taobao become a thing.

>> No.10087094

I'm pretty sure Bodyline is still a Japanese company, even if Yan is Chinese, since its main operations are based in Japan. Google was founded by a Russian immigrant and Procter & Gamble was founded by British immigrants, but the companies are still considered American.

>> No.10087140

Every time Bodyline puts a foot out of line (replicas, stealing designs, crowd-sourcing designs then stiffing the winners/designers, model competition harassment, etc) it being a chinese company and Mr Yan being chinese gets brought up. Look through its checkered past, but actually look at the discussion. Since the dawn of its days as the "cheapskate walmart of lolita" people have been pointing out that it's a chinese company that doesn't behave with proper Japanese decorum, unlike the other Japanese burandos.

That's why I said you're playing into their hands. You brought up the one company that everybody already keeps blaming being chinese for being shady af.

Then you don’t know what a brand is. It’s not burando, but it definitely is a brand. Walmart is a brand too.
Having a previous Chinese CEO and having products made in China does not make it a Chinese company, anon. Bodyline has always operated out of Japan, had all storefronts in Japan, and is now even owned by Japanese while still selling replicas. It’s a Japanese company.

>> No.10087635

>>10087589
You are really reaching for straws here. Bodyline is a poor hill to die on. Japanese lolitas would never call it brand and it’s still looked down on there. It’s just a sexy lingerie shop turned costume shop that treats lolita like a costume too. It was inferred that they were cheap outfits for sexy times, hence Japanese lolitas loathing it.

Looking back, it’s really funny because Bodyline was like the tacky Chinese taobao before taobao, making horrible replicas and low quality lolita to leech off of legitimate brands success. It’s like China based companies never changed.

No, it’s not a burando on the technicality that you can say Bodyline is a literal “brand” that has had Japanese locations. If I open a Japanese store front but am european and manufacture in Europe, it doesn’t make me nor my clothing Japanese lmao. No, it’s completely Chinese and it’s funny that once again, a Chinese seller is a thorn in the side of real Japanese brands.
>b-but it was sold
So if the new owner is somehow not a Chinese person and is white or something, it makes it Japanese burando? Come on now. It wouldn’t change its origins, how it continues to operate by majority Chinese, and how Chinese factories are the only way they can sell such cheap, low quality lolita.

You must have reading comprehension issues. No one called Bodyline burando. Being a brand is not the same being burando. Walmart is a brand. Target is a brand. Infanta is a brand. AP is a brand that is also classified as burando. Are you ESL?
If you're the CEO of a company that only opens storefronts in Japan, sells goods directed towards the Japanese market, and bases all their operations in Japan, yes, you'll be classified as a Japanese company. Having goods produced in China does not make a company Chinese, otherwise 95% of the companies in the world would be Chinese. If Apple's next CEO is Chinese, would it become a Chinese company because their products are produced in China? Apple even has a ton of stores in China and markets to the Chinese market, which Bodyline does not.
