Anyone else spring cleaning? I’m really inspired after watching Marie Kondo, but I’m having trouble parting with my lolita stuff.
I’m pretty decisive about normie clothes, but I have so many lolita items that spark joy for me so it’s really hard for me to pick what to sell.

I'm also doing the same anon, especially since I'm also working on my wardrobe post. I guess I don't feel obligated to get rid of it if it still sparks joy. Keep it until it no longer does or if you have any negative feelings about the fit. That's how I'm dropping a few items.

>but I will say I despise how everyone in that show is trashing everything instead of donating or recycling

I've been trying to... I bought 100 nice new velvet hangers in a pretty color. When I started swapping hangers out in my closet, there were a few things my brain said "don't waste a good hanger on this one". I feel weirdly guilty because none of them were really things I had been considering getting rid of before.

loool if it doesn't deserve a velvet hanger I would sell it.

I used to have a really big wardrobe, but I noticed everytime I bought something I would think something along the lines of "I could buy a new lolita skirt for this amount of money..". It really took the joy out of shopping for other luxurious things like perfume, bedding, a television. It was as if I was obsessed with getting a bigger wardrobe for no reason.

I did a pretty severe summer clean out so I'm not. It wasn't exactly a konmari but I pulled out my wardrobe, tried a ton of things on, and if I was wearing them in front of the mirror and didn't think "I'm the most kawaii motherfucker ever" it went into a pile. If I tried them on with a full coordinate and still didn't feel good about it I got rid of them.

Ended up getting rid of most of my red items, and a lot of my Meta (no shade towards meta, everything I had was just too big for me). It left my wardrobe a bit more streamlined, so that was nice.

Same here except I’m not sure if it’s because I don’t love my wardrobe anymore or because I’ve been overworked and depressed for a while now. It’s gotten so bad that when I open up my closet to pick out normie clothes for work I look at my lolita clothes and think “I can’t wear any of this to work and spend my weekends doing housework in pyjamas so why do I even have these? I could just sell everything and put the money towards buying a house or something.”
It’s honestly pretty scary because lolita has been the one thing I’ve been consistently passionate about over the last decade. Am I turning into my normie coworkers whose only hobbies are sleeping in and watching Netflix?

Just to be on the safe side I’m going to wait until spring and make sure to attend at least one more meetup in lolita before I decide to sell any of my (formerly) favourite pieces. Maybe this feeling will pass.

I just watched episode one and I immediately went through my normie clothes and came up with a pile of things to donate. Things that aren't in good enough shape anymore to donate I'll be giving to H&M for fabric recycling.

A goal of mine this year is to expand my lolita wardrobe even more so I can feasibly wear it on a near regular or maybe even daily basis, so out with the normie stuff. It bores me. But that means no lolita closet cleaning is necessary for me, I already did that a few months ago.

I've seen a lot of people wanting to konmari after watching the show, and it's great that people are learning to let go of the hoarder mentality, especially in a fashion where it can be very hard to part with items.

However, please read her book "The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying" before you start. The tv show only brushes the surface of what you need to do to mentally prepare yourself to do a serious declutter, and a lot of people I know failed a day or two in because they're not doing this and they've only just watched the show. I know it's cheap on BookDepository, or you might be able to dig up a pdf of it somewhere. My copy is bouncing between friends at the minute, so maybe you know someone you could borrow it from. It's a very quick read but it goes deep into why it's so easy to re-accumulate things you don't need when you tidy normally, and how to change your whole attitude towards possessions.

Trust me on this, it will make the world of difference. Good luck!

>> No.10084578

Good advice anon. I felt like the show glossed over a lot of the critical advice in the book to focus on flashy reality TV style makeovers.

I found the show motivated me to continue using practices I learned in the book, but I agree it's important to read the book.

H&M tries to pretend they are recycling and doing something good, but they just pass it off to someone else to "recycle" (often sold to 3rd world countries destroying their local market and causing them to burn anything that doesn't sell).

A lot of people seem to get getting back into plaid with the new-old school wave kicking up. And both in J-fashion and mainstream fashion there are a lot of designers pushing the idea of wearing mixed plaids. This dress on AP's US site is on sale right now and I think it's really versatile in that you could go old school with it, classic, classic sweet or play with current trends. At it's original price I thought it was a bit expensive for something without an original border print, but I think the adjusted sales price is pretty decent.

There are just too many clothes in the world now, it's pissing in the ocean at some point. Some of it does get legit recycled or sold cheaply in Africa. Chinese companies that want to sell new clothes to Africa directly aren't happy about this.
I think the key is consuming more thoughtfully, buying fewer clothes and wearing them for longer.

>> No.10084856

>>10084850
Agreed, but it's better not to donate to h&m because they just encourage you to spend more at their store by giving you discounts for your donations. Not really a healthy system. They also aren't taking responsibility for the mass of clothing they create and pretend they are doing the responsible thing, but only passing it off to someone else, without care for the result. They just want to look good to the consumer.

And yeah it may help prevent China from selling to Africa, but it also prevents Africans from selling to Africa. Which harms them in the long run.

I definitely agree though, it's only going to be solved by less consumption.

A friend of mine skimmed through the book in a shop once and got so bothered at the idea of getting rid of stuff that she ranted about it on facebook and got OTHER PEOPLE riled up about this "uppity neat freak", none of whom had likely even heard about konmari before. Agreed! I did something similar with a work friend recently. My friend read part of it and started and basically skipped a lot of stuff saying "I will just take the parts I like". What ended up happening was she got stuck because she spent all her time trying to get her boyfriend to throw out all his exessive socks and t-shirts. She barely got rid of anything of her own and said "well I don't have much stuff to begin with so the only problem is his stuff". When I tried to nicely say that she should focus on her stuff and see what happens with his she got kind of mean about how I was able to get rid of a lot because I had more crap to begin with. It really isn't important how much you get rid of and I wasn't trying to imply that.

I feel this so hard, anon.

Unfortunately, a bunch of vegan lolitas in the west just shriek when you mention animal products and I think it's part of why brands emphasize "vegan leather". They don't understand how poorly and quickly these plastics degrade and how they just get everywhere. I had a pleather office chair like that and it started looking like your picture only after a year. If you use it, you destroy it. They only look nice for maybe the first few uses. Can't imagine how much worse that'd really be sitting out in the environment.

>> No.10085676

>>10085657
I did a lot of research about the environmental impact of leather vs. pleather and I found that unless you isolate it factory by factory or one specific supply chain vs. another specific supply chain, they basically come out as the same. What a lot of vegans forget is that pleather releases a ton of pollutants into the environment around where it's being produced; sickening and killing the surrounding wildlife. Whereas leather can be made in as equally as toxic of an environment (if it's cheap leather) or in a healthier, humane setting. Pleather can be almost eco friendly, but it's only the pleather that costs as much as real leather.

Overall I go with leather 90% of the time (my one weakness is brand novelty bags) to avoid the off-gasses, which are permanent even if you can't smell them. I have chronic, bad migraines so I try to do a lot of preventative stuff like not surrounding myself with highly chemical-based materials.

I asked them to declare the value as 2500 yen on the customs form in the comment box and I hope it will fly under the radar like most marked down packages do (for me).
Just paid for my order, I can keep you updated if you like? It'll be shipped with EMS so it probably shouldn't take very long to arrive.

Chill out. Brands put out ugly horseshit occasionally, that's the nature of fashion as a whole. Sometimes someone has a shitty idea without realizing how shitty it is and enough people on the production chain are unwise enough to inflict it upon the masses. Everyone collectively realizes they fucked up when it doesn't sell well, agree never to do that again, and life goes on. Basic is exactly what it sounds like: Coords that include all the garments needed to create the basic lolita look without extra bells and whistles that are included in fancy or OTT coords.
Casual is, again, what it sounds like: Coords that are simplified and casual for daily wear. There's some overlap between basic and casual coords but they're not necessarily the same thing. The gist of the difference between the two is that casual incorporates more cutsew/jersey fabrics, simpler shoes, smaller and hair accessories (i.e. a hairclip instead of a large headbow), fewer accessories in general, and a petticoat with less volume, so it looks less fancy than most basic coords but is still put together and counts as lolita.
The "underrated" thread that >>10087304 mentioned is just about lolitas that get less attention but are still inspirational to some, it has nothing to do with basic or casual coords.

I have been collecting moitie since 06 and can say you don’t know how bad their quality has dropped over the years. Their fabric choices have dramatically decreased and their prints have gotten even worse. They used to have very nice trimmed lace and everything was secured nicely to the garments. Now they have literally glued ribbons onto head bows instead of the hand sewing they used to do. Resorted to thinner cheaper Chinese chiffon over their thick and sturdy fabrics. Their lace isn’t nearly as nicely trimmed and their bags are stitched less securely. They have stopped paying attention to details and just started half assing things. Basic styles and prints in cheaply made fabrics for the same high dollar price.

Am I the only one eagerly awaiting the day this exact Antique Beast headdress trend finally dies? It was cute at first but it's been a few years and I am really sick of seeing them as often if not moreso than Holy Lantern. Especially worn together.

Is it any cheaper shipping wise to buy from Wunderwelt with an SS or is shipping cheaper for them to just sent it to your country?

I got the pictured headdress in the black shantung and white georgette last year. The great is a tad shiny on parts but I don't mind since it really highlights the details. But I highly recommend, they look really nice in those fabrics.

You and me both. This brand has been around so long and is still rereleasing the same shit. Think of something new and cute ffs

Yeah I don't understand why they never releases new stuff. The brand could be so much more popular, but once you have what you want from them you never have to check there again.
