Best/Worst Con rave experiences?
Things you love, hate or wish the DJs would play?
Which con has the best rave/dance parties?

Con raves are for people who have never been to a regular rave. Its filled with people over doing it on E or way too drunk.
I went once and thought it was boring. I have more fun taking shots outside the conrave for every person who gets taken away in an ambulance.

lots of DJs are artists for anime OSTs or popular remixers or youtube artists or etc. Generally they're remixed/anime themed OSTs. Kicking it to a zelda trance remix while the lights are going is pretty damn enjoyable.

The only con I visit here every other year does have some sort of club or disco in the evening hours, but I never really bothered to find out what it's like there. The same location is pretty boring during the day and the advertised DJs don't seem all that great, or maybe the advertising sucks.

Best con rave I ever attended was Fanime last year (2018), specifically Friday night. The DJ played late 90s/early 2000s hip hop bangers as well as a few gems from current top 40. It was so lit, I danced my ass off all night.

>> No.10079853

>>10075767
Pretty much what >>10079141 said with the added caveat that some cons have open demos for their smaller nights/main nights and others are invite only. Usually, they will make an announcement prior about a form you can fill out but a lot of crews run deep and only book their friends.

Lot of promoters/people that book for it are kind off defensive about it so if they get any word of you playing like large room parties or setting up renegades in hotel space will blacklist you.

Also not all cons are equal in terms of comp and what they provide you gear/service wise. Typically most cons will just give you a badge and that's it. The one year I played Otakon they just gave me a badge and had me fend for myself, didn't answer questions about if they had CDJs or not, had to find out via outside means. Youmacon they outright lied to me that they had CDJs for me to play on then when I stopped by the rave the night before I played they told me the dude who owns them was gonna bounce the next morning and I had to drive 2 hours that night back to pick up mine.

you shouldn't be flailing your limbs so much as moving your body. keep your feet hips width apart and practice making figure 8 shapes with your hips and your shoulders to the beat of music at home in front of the mirror. youtube tutorials are your friend, watching kpop tutorials is fun and full of trendy/current dance moves to upbeat music. if you're truly self conscious, a local dance studio will have a beginner "hip hop basics" class you can drop in for a few sessions before the con.

Waaaaay too many raves just hit classic top 40s (or mostly have it playing), it's annoying. I want to hear anime music, plenty of OPs and EDs are banging enough to play, yet they play really unfitting music. If I wanted to hear current music, I'd be at a normal club baka. A lot of raves do the classic 80% normal 20% weeb, which is still ass. DJs don't know what they're doing, even a dedicated anime watcher (let alone a weeb music expert) could name enough songs for 1-2 hours of fun.

I remember a few years back I was pretty close to the front of the line, maybe about 40 people in front of me. Pretty much all of them

I've never really enjoyed raves. Either I feel awkward and alone, or I'm drunk and I feel awkward and alone and drunk.

It's a funny thing, because I really enjoy small-venue concerts. The sort of place where everyone is pressed together as one big mass of people.

On the other hand, raves always seem like a ton of people in close proximity dancing by themselves.

Because small-venue concerts are a group of people all focusing on the same thing, ie- the concert. So you feel connected because you know everyone else is paying attention to and liking the same thing you are. It's easier to connect because you can easily say "hey, I love the electric guitar in song x" or "that's a new arrangement for song y, I wish they included that in their CD" and immediately the other person can give their reply directly.

Raves, you're right. Most of them are off in their own little world. Some are there to dance. Some are getting/already high. Some are/already drunk. Still others are doing the mating signals looking for a quick bump. Some just want some time away from their SO/roommates/whatever shit. You never really know what's up with any random person you bump into, which makes every encounter its own minefield.

Fair disclaimer: I don't enjoy raves either.

>> No.10102526

>>10102317
This is a very good way to think about it.
In addition, honestly, at the concert, you go from 10 ft from the stage to 5 ft from the stage with basically no input from yourself, just one mass of people.
A rave seems like it'd be similar, but it's not. everyone is in very close proximity, but as you said, off in their own worlds.

They got a better light show and put anime clips on the screens, it improved 100%. I hope they don't revert this year. But when the DJ just plays normie club music at a con it's dull, they dropped the ball. DJ's aren't there just to play music, they gotta entertain by speaking the ppls language weather it's an anime con or a sci-fi con or whatever.
