This is my lineup this year, has to be the most cosplays I’ve ever brought to a con. Just booked my shoots and started early on my stuff, for once, looking forward to this!

I’m extremely curious on how this whole badge requirement is going to work (lines to get in, access points at entrances).

Also see the drama on 30 year old Luis Caldez/The Brown Ranger on Facebook and Instagram. He just got outed the girl he's been dating for the past few years was a minor, and he had a history of cheating on other minors with her while she was passed out drunk or drugged and he's going to Katsucon.

Haven't gone to Katsucon in 3 years because I didn't have a fun time but trying it out again this year. Has anything changed? Now that I'm old enough to drink I'm sure I'll find a different crowd than I did last time I went but still.

Coming from out of state, what's the closest (or best) place to buy alcohol? I know I can bring some on checked luggage but I would like to know in case we need more.

MGM ballroom: 10-6, free. I'm buying some backdrops for people to use for shooting. Got a cash bar in the middle. Gonna be here helping people shoot and network, and playing MTG. And drinking.

Voltaggio Brothers: this is "booked" out. We have access to one of their restaurants to shoot in, but the interest was huge and the capacity low. No more spots :(

Felt after party: sold out for Friday evening.

Sat has ballroom 10-6 again.

Only charge was for felt party, and that was direct to the MGM as cover (discounted for us) - and only $25 (quite a bit less than a katsu badge).

it's a bad look when people known for ghosting, known for being elitist are invited and people in attendance bad mouthed the new policies. I want to believe you, it seems like the event could be fun. But anon is right, this event is coming as bunch of elitists trying to show off. If you were genuinely trying to help, Martin could have held his workshop at Katsu, you could held your event at the MGM as an unaffiliated add on without the block. It's all sketchy.

I've also seen many of the cosplayers and photographers going and many are quit the shits. I came to 4chan and invited you. I offered to buy beers for you guys. I reiterated that the event I'm doing is public. And now I'm understanding that this was probably a futile place to make a plea for peace.

The main reason I'm doing an event seperate from Katsucon is because I've approached Katsucon REPEATEDLY with ideas and been told that they aren't interested. The reason it's happening that weekend is because for the goals I have, a huge number of the people I need help from are in the same place already, and there's an MGM property only 1 mile away offering up the space we need. Katsucon sold all 810 rooms at the Gaylord. My room block at the MGM has 25. If this was an attempt at a coup, I'm doing a really fucking bad job of logistics.

Finally - and please consider what I'm saying here - it takes a lot of energy to hate someone. Especially someone you don't really know. There's so much unified hatred on here for the people who are successful in the industry... The other post really hit the nail on the head here. All evidence points at this being a spite event the oppose Katsucon, where people will attend the MGM events instead of pay for a Katsucon batch or attend Katsu at all. Your group also already has a reputation for exclusivity where you isolate yourselves from the con or congoers and/or except special treatment from the con or hotel.

Right now it looks like you have no intention of running this event as an addition to Katsucon, encouraging people to attend both or working with the con. If we're wrong, please prove it, but if you guys want a spite not-a-con then at least own up to it. There's two groups who are being pissy about the badges.

The first is poor congoers who are bad with money and go to cons even though they're broke. The only way they can afford it is roomstuffing, driving, and ramen diets, and they usually ghost cons.

The second group is Martin Wong and associated "elite" photographers who think they deserve special treatment from the con and hotel. This is the same group that isolates themselves at Colossalcon, gets the hotel to give them the villas under the table, and gives out special wristbands for their parties. I am not surprised at all they're making a protest event at MGM in response to Katsucon not rolling over for them.

Hey there - I ran the dual villas at colossal and I'm running the MGM event.

At colossal, I worked with the convention to have a media house. We put up most of the professional photogs and videographers in those villas. It gave the con press, we got villas reserved (we paid full price) and everyone was happy.

Cameras are expensive. Very expensive. Thieves know this. We had a $5k rig stolen during an open party our first year, along with hundreds of dollars of booze.

From then on I hired security for the villas - con security - and the theft stopped. We also had people being stalked - that stopped too.

Please try to put yourselves in my shoes before you throw insults and assumptions around. 36 people. $10k on my credit card. $2k security deposit. Tens of thousands of camera equipment. High profile cosplayers.

SClass sounds like it COULD be fun if it wasn't almost certainly a situation where a nobody like me would get completely ignored by the elite. I like smaller get-togethers but this is OBVIOUSLY an event for the elite, by the elite (and I guess the peasantry can spectate because, to them, the less people at Katsu the better, right?). At least photographers at Katsucon are willing to give me the time of day.

You seem to be missing the issue, which is the percieved elitism in your group. Everyone knows how people fight tooth and nail for any hotel space at Colossalcon. And yet here you are, bragging about how the con just forks over not one but two of the most coveted space while the rest of the plebs Hunger Games it out in lotteries or six hour lines. Because you're "professional" photographers and cosplayers that have convinced the con and yourselves that you're leagues above everyone else? That is a bold statement.

You can't hawk about how your MGM event is "for the community" and your Colossalcon villas are "for the con publicity" but then at the same time put up a barrier between yourselves and the rest of the con, or act like you deserve special treatment. This is the prevelant opinion about your group outside of your own circle, and all you're doing is continuing to drive a wedge between yourselves and literally everyone else, while driving public opinion downward. However you do seem to care about what the community thinks, and you could absolutely be the positive force you seem to want to be if you put some thought into how your group can be more inclusive. Because a lot of teenagers are stupid and easily influenced. They enjoy the fact that an older guy is flattering them and calling them mature for their age. They don't have the life experience to see it as the predatory behavior it is. A young teen might see it as harmless flirting with someone she trusts, and she may even develop a crush.
