While they may put you in a JSK, be able to fit an OP with ease. A small waist (24-26 inches or less) is usually preferred, but a proportionate body is very important, hence the most important part of the application is your photos. The worse thing you can do is lie about your measurements and show up frumpier than they expect, so take good photos & submit accurate measurements. I've seen girls switched out of dresses due to lying about their measurements (and height) a few times. Unlike Baby, which exhibit a slightly larger variety of body types than most Japanese brands in their stateside, AP prefers cute petite girls, even though their dresses are plenty large enough for other representation. Possibly because every time a western brand tries people cry its too expensive for an "upgraded t-shirt", even when good lace and good jersey cost money (I love brand cutsew because their fabric is thicker than 3 H&M shirts even when both being jersey. I would expect the same of indie lolita cutsew). Not to forget Europeans are expansive, so unless it's a hobby on the side, whatever is used for salary is raising the price too. People are more willing to pay for a blouse because it feels more like a special garment.

I've seen 3 or 4 brands try. None I hear much about anymore.

It's just transparent/lacey effects are kinda in right now, so all sorts of brands are flirting with synthetics as it's the easiest fabric that will do transparent and floaty the most easily.

Not just lolita/otome, a lot of normie brands are doing mesh or lace blouses/skirts, or chiffon things, or other sheer layered things.

Also, it only applies to products that are completely or mainly manufactured in Japan (the origin has to be clear through the paperwork) so things like Made in China burando stuff doesn’t count.
Also, certain product types will take a while to have the benefit, shoes are only custom free in 6 years.

Who's ready for Angelic Pretty's newest print? I do kinda wish the cupids where in more intresting poses (one should have a phone on a selfie stick) but at the same time it's not bad. Comes in pink, cream, blue and purple... I wonder what the cream will look like in person? Kinda hoping it's more of a sunrise / sunset yellow sky.

Does anyone have tips for creating coordinates that are dramatically different from your normal style?

I normally wear otome and toned down classic, like in the basic thread. I wear a lot of non-print OPs or JSKs with cardigans. However, I'm going to an event soon where I think this won't work.

I really want to make a more dressy/princess-y coord but I don't even know where to start. I'm also afraid that it won't feel true to me. Pic related is similar to the most extravagant coord I've ever worn.

Haenuli is closing.

Hello everyone~
I want to talk about something important today. I am facing a new and important milestone in my life; marriage. I am both excited and nervous all at the same time. As this will be a significant change for me, I want to use this as a turning point to wrap up my lolita fashion business and concentrate on my new life. The dresses I have designed up to this point I think of as “Haenuli's Lolita Fashion Season 1” and I am afraid that chapter will come to an end this fall at the Germany-based Träumerei event this coming June.
The wedding will change a lot of things for me and I wish to concentrate on it and step back from designing for the time being. I am an artist to my core and so I will be seeking new avenues to be creative, a Season 2, if you will. What that means, it’s hard to say as I’m unsure at this point. Making lolita fashion dresses has been my passion for 12 years and has given me so much joy and satisfaction.
In this transition time, I wish to give back to you as best I can.
Therefore, from February I’m going to add deep discounts to my current inventory and will rerelease some of my past designs for final runs. I am afraid I cannot rerelease all previous designs as the fabric is custom printed and each design requires different work for the seamstresses. If there was a design that you missed, please let me know in the comments below. I’ll take a look at the comments and will release the top requested designs over the coming months.
Thank you, everyone, for your love and support over the years. There is no way I could have had this boutique without you. Knowing my fellow lolita fashion sisters like these designs is the source of some of my greatest joy. It feels incredible to be part of this amazing group. Your kind words, happy emails, and warm hugs have meant so much to me. Thank you, my dearest sisters.

Sincerely,
Haenuli

Probably where we'd advise newbies to start (sorry, I promise I'm not being condescending) -- start by collecting inspo photos of the styles you actually want to emulate and wear, because sometimes something looks really impressive and people love it, but it's just not your thing. It doesn't have to be someone else's lolita coord, if you're inspired by natural colours then a few staged morigirl photos would be okay, or some concept studio shoots for the makeup or the hair if you find that cool or if it gives you an idea that you want to try.

Somewhere along the way look in your closet and try to figure out dress you want to wear (which dress you like, what you feel comfy in, or just a dress you've been dying to wear). Then try to match those with the inspo, and somewhere along the way some ideas should start popping up.

I mean at some point you're gonna have to step back and reasses like maybe rabbit ears with deer antlers and galaxy makeup don't go together and the inspo board needs to be scrapped and started over, but if it all works out into a nice coherent theme you can work with then you just buy all the extra stuff you need and be done.

I love lolita fashion but all upcoming releases look like shit. I don't know where the fashion is heading at the moment and frankly, I'm worried that there won't be any room soon for the OTT pastel styles I loved. I'm running out of 2nd hand past releases I can buy/find online because with nothing new I love in recent years I've been able to play catch up with my wardrobe.

I don't really want to leave the fashion but if no one is making the kids of styles I like what's even the point anymore? I'm just stuck wearing the same things over and over. Even Taobao dresses are becoming the same princess style jewel toned looks. Anyone else feeling this way?

You need to learn how to do elaborate hairstyles and git gud at your makeup. The most important part about a dressy coord is not the dress itself, but how you style it. You need to have enough poof and proper shoes (not your normie shoes that somehow work with your otome coords). You don't need many accessories, but make sure they are high quality and that they stand out. Dressy coords in general have a more expensive feel, so don't be cheap on the accessories, even if it's just 1-2 pieces. Stay away from printed tights if you can, I find that lace tights work better.

Even from reading your post I feel like you're not being true to yourself. It sounds like you want a more dressy coord because of what other people expect you to dress like at such an event, but because you want to. If it's not your personal style, don't do it. Instead, try to express yourself while still using things from your own wardrobe and inspirations. You can look fancy without going the OTT route. Look at how JM and ETC use glitter, or how the VM and JetJ designers dress when they attend big events. Try wearing a bonnet instead of a small hairbow, or wear something with more delicate fabric than usual.

I just thought she was the better brand for dressing bigger planets, own some stuff from her as well and it seems pretty decently made (the bodice is long on me, but actually not that bad. Granted I had a longer body that didn't properly fit burando anyway, which meant Haenuli did at least fill a niche for me)

But she does always seem to have some issues. Hospitalisation, delivery delays. Someone stealing her artwork, tattoo drama. Copying, reseller drama. Was it just me or she didn't seem to release a whole lot of new things lately? Compared to Baroque and Lief her brand seemed to lag behind and kind of looks more like a side business?

I guess it's more that I'm not so surprised she's quitting. Though, it's her life anyway, so if she's gonna be happier married or whatever then all the more power to her. Hope she finds her happiness doing whatever.

I mean, ideally you should only have 1 meal a day if we're going to get super health nut over here. You're going to live to at least 70 unless you're a total dumb ass, which is more than what you could expect over a century ago. You're thinking way too hard on this - Japan eats a lot of pork (bacon, pork cutlets, pork broths, etc.) and they're a pretty healthy nation as a whole. You're making it sound like you're going to get heart attacks from having bacon I the morning and pork chops for dinner. You have to make some pretty large dietary mistakes on a whole before that actually becomes problematic.

Are you by any chance fat, by the way? I'm 114 lb, before you ask. Pic related is a screenshot of my biometrics taken a few months ago. I eats lots of pork and cheese btw. Pork is my preferred meat and cheese is my preferred topping.

However, it'd be a waste for her to just do manhwa or basic painting which plenty of artists can do. Not every person has at their disposal a decent factory to make quality lolita prints from. It looks like Japanese lolitas have begun to use it to talk about how they love lolita even if they're not cute or young, or to just to have a little chat about why they wear lolita. I've spent a while looking at these posts, my favourite so far is there's girl whose older sister was a lolita and she fell in love with it through her and still wears it even though her sister quit ages ago. It's worth scrolling through the tag to find those posts, twitter has a translate function that's pretty helpful. I'm considering making a thread to dump those posts in now, they're very heartwarming. I feel like it's a good thing for Western lolitas too... Step 3. No fiddly lace sewing, huge skirts or anything finickily lolita-styled. Just t-shirt prints like the knock-off Juniji Ito t-shirts, but with her ownership so she's actually profiting from sales.
Step 5. Profit
Step 6. Repeat, but now make it on mugs, stationery, tote bags, keychains, everything else other than a lolita dress.

It's because of the tumblr culture revolving around it. Tumblr girls are now growing up a little and are now around the 18+ age range and have funds to buy their own stuff. They probably still, in some way, romanticize the novel because they've never read the shit and just go off cherry picked screencap quotes to assume it's some forbidden romance novel without the context. To be fair, the writing is absolutely phenomenal and moving, so I can see why they'd be enamored by reading Humbert's deranged rants without context.

A lot of the Nabokov lolita UwU culture had ageplay undertones. Honestly Tumblr was a mess and their recent decision to remove NSFW content wasn't a surprise to me since I'm sure there were way too many obvious underage lewd accounts floating around. With Tumblr's culture of "we accept everything, even our made up shit" I'm certain there was a strong demographic of underages who embraced the thought of grown people indulging in their pictures and flirting with/propositioning them. Seen you post this twice, without knowing exactly which dress and how you intend to style, it, best I can do is list a bunch of random options off the top of my head. Hope somebody finds this useful at least:

1. If your waist tie is thicker, then you can try https://egl.livejournal.com/19498331.html

Alternatively. Put a safety pin through the buttonholes, pinning two waist ties together. Now wrap this around your head and tie a nice big bow on top of your head (practice in the mirror to get it right). Pin it to death with hair pins underneath the "wings" of the bow and behind your ears to get it to stay in place. Looks remarkably like an actual headbow, but only if you can cover the back portion with the pinned buttonholes (ie-have your hair down or something)

2. If your dress bow actually isn't too wide, you *can* use it as a hairbow, but check that it looks proportionate on your hairstyle and it's not a Bodyline bow (they use a really stiff interfacing that will always look like helicopter blades). Use a seam ripper to carefully take the bow off your dress. You should be able to slide an aligator clip underneath the middle part and use that to clip the bow on.

Alternatively, if the bow is chiffon/soft and floppy, you can safety pin this to a hair tie and use the hair tie.

I don't see how this is preferable to using the waist ties as it permanently damages your dress but if that's what you really want to do, please honestly disclose this when you sell the dress and don't just sew it back on and pretend it never happened.

3. Crowns from your bridal shop, there's probably one somewhere near you. If you're wearing something white, gold or silver it's worth a trip.

4. DIY floral crown or bows from craft shop, chances are pretty high you can find something that matches something in your dress, hotglue them artistically to a headband and you're set. Can't be worse than having a bare head and no ideas.

Could someone please make a new Unpopular opinions thread? I’m feeling salty but I’m too dumb to make a new thread myself

Are you sure you have to add it? I thought that was just an AP USA thing since I've gotten novelties before without adding them. Or does it have to do with their new site?

Thanks for the ideas. The bow I was thinking about using from the dress detachable and can be pinned on again, so no worries there.
I tried to go to the craft store and dye some stuff to match and failed. I didn't check and it was polyester, which I really should have saw coming.
I have my hair bobbed so options are limited there.

This is the dress.

At this point I am thinking of running back to the craft store, getting small flowers and pinning them in my curls.

If you have a Forever21, H&m or Claire's or something nearby they might have some simple white (maybe even red) bow clips you could use. Or flowers or something. Just an idea.

I think it's the new site. Should've screencapped it, I tested it afterwards by putting the Fresh Cherry set in my cart and properly saw that there was a button you had to click and then the item got added to your cart, if you didn't click it then it doesn't seem to get listed in your cart. Maybe they'll be kind and add one anyway. Or not, idk. If there's any interest I could update when I get my parcel from Tenso?

By now the notebook seems to be gone I guess. It's not showing up anymore. Kind of a bummer you don't automatically get it, even though I don't actually want it. I guess it's an interesting quirk to note for future freebies.

Such communities we're almost always run and primarily participated in by adults. Tumblr opened the door for many actual kids to stumble onto it and get into the community when they just wanted to see Homestuck porn and stumbled onto the wrong tags.

It didn't "begin" it, it cultivated it and made it much more widely accessible to actual children who would have otherwise been unaware of it.
