Do you think I could dye pic related grey or would it look fucked up because the lace might get a different colour than the main fabric?

>> No.10061629

Is that a moitie blouse?
I woudn't try it, since the lace and shirt seem made of different materials in different tones of off-white. Not only that, everything is synhethic, so you have less chance of it looking cohesive.

If I were you I'd either bleach it to look white or dye it all black (if, like, you really need to dye it).

It looks like all synthetic fabrics/lace so that's tough. Cotton dyes pretty uniformly but you never know what you're gonna get with polyester. Never tried personally though, anyone else?

I’d also advise against it. I’ve tried dyeing synthetic items gray before and it’s a mess what you can get, especially since there’s a lot of different materials being used there. With some effort all black would probably work well, though.

Yes. I've been looking for a grey moitie top for years and I'm starting to give up. This one looks very similar to another blouse I have and has some damage so I don't feel bad about dyeing it, I'm just afraid it won't look good. I've noticed this for years but I have to ask - does Tokyo Fashion hate lolitas? They avoid this style in general minus the Chinese ita wearing the red and white Nike Airs recently.

Most people wear lolita casually when they go to Tokyo. But there are a few times where I'm admiring from afar because of all the effort they put into their look.

It's something I noticed because their site and IG seem to avoid lolita like the plague. They really focus on bizarre or toned down hipster outfits when there's so much more than that out on the streets in Japan. And they're one of the more well known accounts in terms of J-fashion. Any thoughts on this?

Most of the taobao brands are just jumping on the money train for it and anything that has the potential to drive Japanese brand sales down this significantly is bad. I won't support it. Even most Chinese lolitas know better. No wonder Japanese brands started to cater to them and not to the west.

Happy?
It's still a trainwreck piece that defies most of the design practices of working with directional fabrics and plaids/tartans in particular. Anyone who knows even sewing basics can see that it's a badly designed piece and no amount of quibbling over part names will negate that.

Many of the taobao pieces have similar design flaws so that's not the exception, well designed pieces are. So, I’ve always been curious about this and with pic related coming out and also some brands like IW doing the Rozenmaiden dresses, what if someone wore one of these types of dresses to a lolita tea at a con where the dress codes often say ‘no cosplay’. I think there is a difference between collab dresses and cosplay brand. The IW Rozen Maiden dresses were actually the same as the characters worse as far as I can remember. This Meta collab is more inspired character dresses. Especially with the right one, you can see the dress is just based on the character's skimpy outfit. The left one is much closer but still has some differences.

The real distinction of cosplay vs fashion I think comes from the styling. If you wear these dresses and coord them yourself, with different hair from the character, shoes, a purse, then that's more lolita fashion. If instead you try to match the characters hair style and color, their eye color, shoes, props, etc. then you are cosplaying.

To be honest, the signs mostly aren't even about the actual clothes, it's more about the different attitudes that cosplayers and lolitas have.

A lolita tea party is about enjoying beautiful frilly clothes. It's not a place for attendees to roleplay or nyan around, or for photographers to look for skimpy girls to boost their gallery, or for normies to come in to gawk, or for weebs to whine about their favorite/disliked ships. There's no welcome for "cheap" but accurate cosplays or craftsy props, no one wants to listen to blabbing about original characters, or steampunk. Really, the "no cosplay" sign is very much for both sides of the party. Someone who strictly only likes cosplay isn't going to enjoy a lolita party, and vice versa.

So far as organisers go, they'll probably be rather laid back. You gotta be pretty obviously cosplaying, looking distinctly non lolita, or just outright distinctly trashy, before they'll turn you away.

Different topic but people really need to knock it off with this 'high tea' stuff. Afternoon tea is the elegant tea with the tiered trays. High tea is a working class meal.

If lolitas are going to try to put on airs about how refined their aesthetic sensibilities are then at least learn the correct terms for things.
We all know you are instant ramen swilling, meme-spouting Tshirt-wearers when you aren't wearing the fashion aside from a few lifestylers who really do try to elevate their daily life, but could you please just try to make that a bit less obvious. Use the correct terminology for things and while we are at it, decent table manners and public event behavior? Which fork to use, how to pass the cream and how to use the napkin etc.

In before "lolitas r supposed 2 b lovelies", this is just the minimum basic stuff, people.
If you are going to publicly ape the aristocratic elegance of the historical upper class in your weeb fashion, please educate yourselves at least a bit better.

Usually they actually happen after the lucky packs, but I kind of expect things to be rather drawn out this time around -- last summer (this year) AP's sale became some month-long affair where they were restocking and lowering prices every week or so. It scarcely matters at this point because most of the convention teas and tea parties thrown by US lolita comms aren’t very posh or elegant anyway.

I imagine cgl is full of fucking annoying dumb weebs who come here to be bitter assholes and rip everyone else a new one from safely behind a screen. Or to just argue endlessly about how right they are compared to others.

I also have trouble with the table manners gripe though. If you ever watched that Penn and Teller episode of Bullshit where they go into the history of manners, you may not hold your same opinion, or maybe you'd just push it to continue being contrarian like any other anon would. But basically they pulled the rug out from under all those pearl clutching ninnies about using the correct fork and keeping your elbows off the table. It's all just made up tripe to exclude those who don't behave like you do.

I also have slight bias because my mom's roommate pushed the "elbows off the table" thing so hard that she'd literally HIT me if I put my elbows on the table. I have yet to meet a sane person who abides by these silly made up rules.

There's being a nice and considerate person and then there are those who have stupid expectations out of others.

Think about what year it is and then think about if this REALLY matters.

Literally, fast metabolisms are an actual medically documented thing. It's the same reason why people typically gain weight as they enter menopause or why boys typically stay thin through puberty. Your hormone levels, sleep cycle stress levels, and level of physical activity all impact your metabolism.

There are some people who can eat whatever they want and still be considered under-weight (I know a girl personally who is literally struggling to GAIN weight because her resting metabolic rate is so high), and there are people for whom even the slightest cheat in their diet can result in excess weight.

While it's safe to say that morbidly obese and severely underweight people are both unhealthy, there are people who are considered overweight who are actually healthier and more fit than these mountain dew and oreo fueled skinny girls you'll find lurking around any comm or anime convention. Look at any female rugby player or shot put thrower and even a lot of swimmers. They may be big girls and probably wouldn't fit into the precious burando but objectively they're much healthier and more fit than the general population.

Gulls, how do you choose which coat to bring when you're vacationing in colder area for an extended period of time?

I'm visiting friends in northern europe for the entirety of Jan so I want to be adequately prepared. I wear a lot of wine/black and pink so I sort of know I can't match my coat with my coord half the time but I still don't want the local comms to think poorly of me on their first impression. Any advice, maybe color combos I should avoid?

With a lot of comms I've seen, it's rare enough to see girls wearing a lolita coat with appropriate cold weather gear, let alone actually matching their coat perfectly to their coord. As long as the coat you take fits you and suits the hat/scarf you'll be wearing, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Where in northern Europe are you going? Maybe you can take one full length coat and one shorter jacket for slightly warmer days.

Nifty tip for headwear: use hair extension clips to hold your beret/headband in it’s right place.
I bought vintage hat with clips on it and thought it was brilliant. So I decided to add clips to all my headwear. I used hot glue because it was simple solution but I think sewing is option too. I’m blair waldorf tier headband addict and this just makes my life so much easier. I don’t need to fix my headband (and mess my hair) every five minutes.

So where’s my fashion nobel?! Just kidding, I share this with my pure will to educate others.

Most of us try to make sure that our lolita accessories aren’t craftshit level stuff, there are some generally agreed on quality standards. So hot glue on things is not generally something people will like in lolita.

This is also why I don’t like some lolita youtubers who wear home cut cheap shiny rainbow wigs and use craft store garlands on their head. Most of us don’t do that.

>Seller can invoice in their currency and then buyer pays the conversion fees
Then they're doing it wrong. You can invoice in dollar and it will tell you how much euro you'll get. Seller pays fees unless you add them to make up for it yourself.

If you really want to invoice in euro (before LM accepted other currencies than dollar), what I did was just state payment would be made in euro accourding to PayPals rates at moment of buying, and I'll make a screenshot of PayPals conversion rate on time of sending invoice as proof I'm not scamming, which I could provide on request. It saved me the conversion fees so I only payed PayPal fees as a seller.

But nowadays you can just list your items in euro. Conversion fees are no longer an issue really, but imho they are sellers responisibility unless otherwise stated before sale. Adding fees after sale isn't allowed anyways, no matter what they are for.

Most North European lolita's own at least one winter coat that fits most our outfits, unless they are new to the fashion. Many own multiple coats since we'll get a lot of use out of it.

>>10064703
Brand coats aren't that warm, since Japan isn't that cold. Long or short coats don't matter as much as people think. After all the petticoats and such, there is not that much warmth added at the lower part. It's important that the upper part is warm. Wool with cotton lining, or even fleece lining is best. Fur endings on neck and arms help keeping cold wind from blowing into the coat. For gloves I prefer leather with fur lining, as it'll allow me to look more elegant and use my hands more than thick ones, and without fur lining it's still too cold. Shawls are nice unless you have a very high necked coat (then it's near impossible to get the shawl underneath). Earmuffs matching your coord are cute too, but I wear headphones when I'm outside most of the time, so I don't wear those often.

But yeah, in general, don't worry too much about it. If it doesn't look horrible together it'll be fine. Coats are expansive and even if you own multiple you can't always perfectly match them to your coord. That would be ridiculous.

I don’t wear lolita more than a couple of times per week so no, it wouldn’t be bad for my hair. Most decent wigs have vented caps and are adjustable, but that’s often enough that my wig will need frequent washing and heat styling to stay looking good. So many wigs I see worn in lolita look so obviously fake even in the natural tones. Maybe I just need to look at a regular wig shop and get one of those that can be shaped into a hime cut.

Epic cosplay has some nice wigs! I love using their Blond hestia in my sweet lolita coords. I don't think it looks/feels ebay quality at all. It doesn't even tangle that easily. Plus side is they're pretty cheap too. I've got pretty short hair that i'm growing out as well and I wear this wig all the time. Slap on a hat and no one's the wiser really.

Are there any black anons that can confirm? There's a black lady at my office who wears wigs every day (obvious to someone who knows what wigs look like, but natural enough some people might not know) but I don't want to bother her by being nosy

Epic cosplay looks ridiculously fake in person. You aren't fooling anyone, they're just being polite

Ayrt and I’m sorry anon, this looks very artificial. Thanks for taking the time to make the rec but it’s not even near what I’m looking for in quality.

This is the problem. Maybe a regular wig company will be the answer. Or some extensions if I can leave my own hair just a bit longer.
Unless you have a rec?

By the way, I’m not slamming the more artificial looking wigs, they have their place and can look nice too but that’s not what I’m looking for to use in more everyday looks.

Not if you take care of your wigs and your hair.

Seriously anons, if you want a natural looking wig please buy a wig from an ethnic shop like hairsisters or wigtypes. They will last longer and look better than any cosplay wig out there

I wear a lot of wigs, and honestly, just settle for the best thing you can find in an urban wig shop. Chinese junk has flooded the online market, and even the nicer lolita wigs are very wig looking compared to high end urban wigs (the styles themselves aren't natural looking, regardless of fiber quality). You can get real hair at some of the nicer stores

>she's not ''catering'' to larme, she's designing something based on what she was inspired by (larme)
That's essentially the same thing for me but okay.

are you the same gull that thinks japanese brands are all catering to china by releasing something china-inspired?
