She could divert her efforts into something that would actually look good, like cardigans/boleros and accessories. I can understand that, and it's a valid reason to dislike the look, but lolita isn't based upon Southeastern United States fashion. Even if you're not used to it, it's not a very weird thing to wear long sleeves with ankle socks depending on fabric and cut, and can even be useful.

I'm from Europe, and it seems a bit less extreme here than what I see on American media, but still pretty clothless in summer (altrough skirts in winter used to be a big no-no here in general, unless it was a thick floorlentgh skirt like old-fashioned clothes). I get the not being used to it making it look bad, I had it for quite some time too. But by now I got used to it thanks to looking at and wearing more other fashions than typical modern Western fashion.
