gulls, as if being an uggo wasn't enough, I feel cucked by my glasses/severe myopia.

I am literally blind without them (cannot walk around without them) and I cannot wear contact lenses or any eyes lenses at all (so no different eye colours sparkly lenses either).

This means my glasses always get in the way of cosplays and outfits in general. to me it simply feels like it's ruining it.
I mean, take any picture of a character/coord, then photoshop frames onto it.
It's just not the same thing, you know?

anyone share that feel?
any tips?

>inb4 just buy different pairs of glasses that match
if i had heaps of cash to spend for each pair that i might never use ever again, sure

>only cosplay characters with glasses
sure, but it's still pretty sad being limited like that...

>just take off the glasses for pictures
already doing it, but it's such a mess especially at cons.

Anyone who complains about seeing cosplayers walking around with glasses is a cunt. If you need them, you need them. If you’re self aware enough to take them off for photos, even better.

Other option is to look into lasik surgery. There’s a bunch of deals going around now cause of the holidays.

I got two pairs of glasses, one nicer stylish metal pair for everyday wear and lolita. One that's cuter for specific sweet coords where the metal frames didn't really look as nice with.

I wear the metal pair with most cosplays and just take them off for photos. I usually make sure my costumes have a pocket or place to stash them for pictures.

if the glasses match the cosplay most people will just think it's a cute addition. espceially if it's a smart or sexy character.

it's a medical tool, people who complain about A MEDICAL DEVICE need to be scrapped from the gene pool. you're okay anon just wear your glasses

>> No.10051372

op here, forgot to mention one thing
even if i take them off for photos, I'd hate to be lucky enough to be recorded on camera walking by in a con or something and having my glasses on. You know what I mean?

Also, inaccuracy in a cosplay by wearing glasses; e. g. wearing glasses for a character from an universe/time where glasses don't exist.

It just feels wrong. idk gulls, maybe I'm just being overly self conscious after all.

>>10051362
doesn't putting it in your pocket dirty them?
I constantly have to put down my stuff, rummage through my backpack, get my glasses case, put them inside, take the pic, put glasses back on, multiple times all while being careful not to touch the lenses.
or put them away in a pocket and get them dirty and constantly have to clean them.

I also have the crippling fear of somehow dropping or breaking/bending them.

>metal
>tfw can't wear metal/thin-rimmed glasses because of how thick my lenses are
fuck i really sound like a 100% sperg nerd

>>10051360
i dunno man. i feel like somehow it'd be more acceptable and accepted if i was cosplaying a character while wearing a prosthetic than while wearing glasses...

>> No.10051390

I feel you anon. I have 2 pairs because God forbide anything happens to one - I will have to wait 2-5 weeks for a new one.
Since my eyesight is pretty bad (lmao -10 club anyone?) the lenses are thicc and need equally thicc frames as to not pop out of them... and they still show outside the borders. I was laughed at in middle and high school for the distortion the glasses created, so I guess that hardened me in a way. When I jumped into cosplaying, I already had a "whatever ya' sayin'" attitude, especially towards peps that don't cosplay - you are already above them in a sense.

Dab on the haters and keep walking around having fun. Or scoop out their eyes with your prop if that's more of your thing. Or take your anti anxiety meds if it is a more generalised problem. Anything you do, just feel good about your image anon.

>> No.10051394

>>10051372
Can't you keep you glasses case in your pocket then just pop them inside for pictures?

Also who really cares. Anyone who comes at you for wearing literally something you need to function daily with is a twatty sperg. If people are going to nitpick over "inaccuracy" then it's their problem, not yours.

Get help for your anxiety. No one cares when cosplayers wear glasses and you just take them off for photos.

Just wear them when you need them, and if that’s all the time then so be it. I myself wear glasses and am as blind as a bat without them.

>>10051390
I really feel sad but I feel you on so many levels anon. I'm not -10 yet, I'm an -8ish with astigmatism as well, but god the thick lenses part.
I can't even afford more than one pair because of how expensive each one is. a decent pair of glasses with uv protection, blue light protection, anti-scratches, lens thinning, etc costs pretty much the monthly minimum wage where I live.
I get you, gull.

I do have anxiety. maybe it's that.
thanks anon, and bless you.

>>10051394
like i said in >>10051372 it's frustrating putting them in a pocket because every time they get dirty and i have to clean them all over again

I guess you gulls are right though, maybe I'm really just being overly perfectionist and self conscious after all...

>>10051409
>no one cares
trust me, some people have, and i feel like who am i to say they're wrong?

yeah you nailed it there. been doing that for the past few years. maybe it is really all just in my head after all.

You know glasses can be hanged from their temples(?)? Most costumes have something you can put your glasses to hang for a moment (belt, bag, even on pants' waist). If it shows then it shows, not your ptoblem. If it's not a photoshoot no one will care., and if they do they will say about it.

>>10051390
I have something like -8 glasses and I have thin metal frames. The lenses come out a lot but who the hell cares. Only once have the lense dropped, and it was because a screw broke.

I'm so sorry to hear this anon, I can and do wear contacts for cosplay and if I'm doing something special, but in general I wear glasses in day to day life. I'm also really nearsighted and they make my eyes look really small :-(. but I promise you that it's 100% okay to wear glasses for a cosplay, If anyone says otherwise then they're a moron. A lot of cosplays do generally look more accurate without glasses but they are such a small, small part of a cosplay, and as for taking them off for pics, I would just keep cleaning spray and a cloth in my bag, and put my glasses in my pocket, if you clean them every 2-3 hours they should be alright even if they're not in a case. and as another anon mentioned, Lasik is always an option and may be worth it. Also is there a reason you can't wear contacts? I'm pretty nearsighted and my eyeballs are big so they're very flat and contacts don't fit the best, but I find that I can function well enough with them because I don't do a lot of precise viewing when I"m at cons or a special occasion.

>> No.10051436

>>10051428
I simply cannot adapt to them. No matter what kind, what material, what size, whatever. My eyes were constantly severely irritated and couldn't see right. One of the lenses would keep jumping/rotating a little because I have astigmatism and that really fucking frustrated me.
It's genetic. My father can't wear them either. My tear duct doesn't produce as much as it should or something, and no, eye drops don't help much either.

as for lasik doc said it's best I wait a few more years for my eyesight to really stabilise. and I really am broke anyway.

>> No.10051468

>>10051436
Oh, I see. Well for lasik, if you have benefits/insurance there's a good chance they can cover a fair portion of it, and if you live somewhere with universal healthcare then you may be able to see if they can cover the fees of pre- and post-operative care. Also you may already have this, but my glasses are made with a very slimmed frame, and it combats distortion pretty well Imo. It costs extra usually but I got mine applied for free because of a deal with the store, benefits may also cover it.

>> No.10051494

>>10051354
Anyone who cares is an asshole, but if it really bugs you get a few different frames from zenni or whatever and cosplay characters that wear glasses. A lot of people find glasses cute, and if your vision is really bad you'll probably look best with them on anyway

>> No.10051502

>>10051354
Sorry, I don't do cosplay and don't really know what to suggest you. But I also have very bad sight and I feel you. Try not to let it bother you that much. I know it's easier said than done but seriously, take it easy. I'm sure you're okay with glasses. A good cosplay is not ruined by those. Don't give up or feel down! Internet hug.

I think you might need some help with you vision, too.

>> No.10051910

OP despite what some posts on /cgl/ say otherwise, no one in real life is going to care if you wear your (prescription, much needed to see) glasses with your cosplay. If you forget to take them off for a couple of photos, it's ok. Most people will probably get that you need them to see.

>> No.10052145

>>10051371
>A MEDICAL DEVICE
You're a good anon. I wish the body acceptance movement hadn't been hijacked by fatasses. It should be only for shit that can't be helped like needing cokebottle lens glasses etc.
>>10051354
>tfw have all these issues
>also need the big plastic frames because my lens prescription, even using that special thinner material, is super fucking thick and metal frames aren't thick enough to hide it
People who say "just take them off" are retarded, I won't be able to recognize faces, would have difficulty seeing cars coming or recognizing street signs and buildings.
And inb4 someone says lasik, for one I'm not putting a laser into my eyeball, and for two my vision is too bad to qualify for it. Probably same for OP if she's too bad for contact lenses.
Where the fuck is evolutionary theory wtf, my ancestors would have been eaten by tigers with eyesight this lousy. Just end my life please.
>bad teeth
>bad eyes
>bad skin
The only answer is that creationists were right and evolution is a farce, and god gave me these issues to punish me for some sin in my past life. Vision only gets worse over time, too, so eventually I'm just gonna have to kms.

>> No.10052155

>>10051354
>only cosplay characters with glasses
Pretty much. Glasses are a medical device, so similar to someone who has to use a wheelchair, you just have to make do with the cards you were given. If your eyes are too fucked and you can't even wear contacts, then you're never going to perfectly cosplay a non-glasses character. But honestly, that's okay. Not everyone is striving for accuracy. Some cosplayers just want to wear a costume and get shit-faced in it.

>> No.10052156

>Where the fuck is evolutionary theory
Drawin's theory just means that these disabilities never stopped your ancestors from reproducing before they died (eaten by tigers). Ergo, these traits were never selected out. Take that as a beacon of hope for you.

lol yeah it ‘dirties’ them but you can literally just wipe them off on your shirt. op your problem here is not glasses but crippling self-consciousness and anxiety. your only choice here is to forcibly stop giving a fuck*

*the art of forcibly not giving a fuck is forcing yourself to do things you and potentially others cringe at despite how painful it is. it’s the only way to deal with crippling self-consciousness in a timely fashion

Fellow glassesanon here, I feel you deeply. My prescription's not as bad as yours (-5.75) but my eyes are still pretty damn awful. I remember being sad on Halloweens as a kid because I wanted to go as characters that didn't wear glasses or couldn't think of bespectacled characters I wanted to portray, and even to this day it still kind of follows me.
But - it's been my experience that nobody really cares. Even when I had more obvious black frames with Transitions lenses that were constantly tilted nobody said anything. Heck, I even got COMPLIMENTED once - I was cosplaying an older character and they thought the glasses added to their worldliness.

There are a few things I do to mitigate it. I wear glasses with clear frames that are less noticeable. I also have prescription sunglasses that open up a few more opportunities. When I'm getting photographed I sometimes tuck them into my back pants pocket or inner jacket pocket. But I mostly just don't sweat it.

Have you looked into buying glasses online? Glasses shops around me charge anywhere from $125 to upwards of $200 for a single pair, but online I can get 'em for around $40. Sure they're lower-quality, but I don't wear them daily so I don't care. Picking up more subtle frames is a good stopgap if you can't/won't do contacts.

I feel you so much anon. walking around without glasses is really a huge danger for me, I often don't see steps causing lots of falls. I literally cannot do it.
and just to add to the uggo factor, i also have horrendous teeth. been waiting forever to get braces but even then that'll just be another factor to make me feel self conscious.

do you have any suggestions for online shops? (I'm in the EU)

my local trustworthy shop costs around 600$ for a new pair (with stuff like anti scratch protection, uv and blue light protection, insurance, etc) and i get some money back from healthcare at the end of the year but yeah 600$ for a pair I'll only wear a few times is... unbelievable.
