That shit was really unfortunate. I honestly thought the picture w/ the gargoyle ribbon was fun.

Hopefully they catch who did that, and justice is served.

Iwai was incredibly awesome other than a few hiccups with the hotel. The party floor was dope despite the drama with that dumbass whole talked shit at one of the cops.

Me. I’m ready for winter comfy con w drinks and semi drunk Disney springs trips. Only complaint is that there’s no Star Wars premier this year to co incide w Holmat like it has for the past 3 years

Their signature drinks look fun but they were expensive last year.

From what I'm guessing, they are definitely checking bags for certain events and if you seem suspicious they will ask to check your bag.

>been nearly 5 years since I've been to a con
>moving back to Florida in July, but flying in on Friday and going to Hmat during my Christmas vaction for now
>met new group of friends online that I'm hoping to mesh with when I get there
>didn't have enough time to lose all the weight I want, so no cosplay (male, been lifting, lost 30 pounds so far and considerably better built now, but still need to lose 50 more pounds)
>terrified of looking weird and anxious because I'll be alone 60% of the time and I'm strictly there for art alley because I'm also an artist and looking to decorate my apartment with good stuff
>don't even have graphic tees that fit my smaller torso so I'm basically going to the con as a hentai background character (I bathe and groom, but I'll basically look like a boring fuck with nothing that makes me stand out)
>naturally gregarious, so being alone in a crowded space with no one to talk to is something have exactly zero experience with
>stressed I'm getting too old for this shit (mid 20's)
I know this is kinda off topic for this board but I mostly have just been lurking and wanted to vent. Sorry.

Should be easy to make new friends then.

If it makes you feel better about yourself, I'm 28, have no friends here, no cosplay, don't typically talk to strangers, and I don't do very much bathing or grooming either and I'm going.

What the hell is going on with the vendor’s room? They apparently cancelled VIP (I don’t remember if they had Saturday VIP last year to be fair) and they’re not letting vendors in until 11, an hour before it opens. Holimat, you used to be better than this.

>> No.10056983

>get to holmat and follow big banners for con parking
>wait in line to find out the lot is full and I have to go to “the hotel across the street for free parking”
>have to navigate a little to find the old nick hotel which was what they meant
>parking was $12
>shuttle took forever
>was in the regular registration line for over 2 hours
>when we got to the front they announced the card machines were down and they didn’t know when they’d be back up
>machines kept crashing, when it was finally my turn they went down again
>they had me go on the fucking pre-reg website and order tickets right then and there to show them the qr code

What a fucking mess. If I knew they were going to make me go through eventbrite anyways I would’ve gone in the fucking prereg line to start with. It was longer but at the time it was going fast enough that people who joined it same time as me finished faster (probably BECAUSE of the card issues) I like to think I’m pretty patient but after two hours when they said the machines were down I wanted to riot.

Holimat yesterday
>parking sucks
>When they say shuttles than really mean shuttle singular
>VA panel was a compete mess there was nobody moderating it until Haberkorn took it over and made it the Todd Haberkorn show while 7 other actors were bored on stage.
>Costume contest was emceed by a pair of idiots that spent the whole time bitching about how they didn't WANT to have to talk to the audience.
-the judges took nearly a half hour to make decisions, the shitty emcees just whined that they didn't know what to do so they played music videos...twice. Then just had some guy take his shirt off and lipsynch Back street boys songs.
>About a third of the audience left without finding out who the winners were

It's a fucking shame too cuz there was some REALLY great costumes that deserve a better contest.

>go to the burlesque show
>it's literally women barely moving and getting sweaty $1s thrown at them while everyone else stands in like for shitty mix drinks
The Mei was cute, and the black Catherine was on point, but otherwise, I'm so glad that was free. It was a waste of time for the most part. I tried to get up front and have a good time, but it was nearly impossible to get up there without pushing. Also, the two bars were some of the slowest bars I've ever seen at any event period.

>> No.10058018

Not a terrible con but definitely not good either.
>Parking was terrible unless you got there Friday morning. They provided a shuttle to neighboring hotel's parking garage but it was still a pain in the ass.
>Very understaffed check-in resulting in a 2 hour wait for badge pickup
>Food was high school cafeteria quality at restaurant prices. And the hotel gets away with it because there's nothing else nearby.
>Vendors Room seemed slightly smaller this year.
>Terrible acoustics in the panel/event rooms. For example, I went to the Abridged panel on Sunday to kill some time, but the room across from us had a huge speaker pointed directly at the door so I could hear everything from there like it was right behind me
Saturday night in particular was bad enough to get its own shit-list:
>Rave was like 200 people and the DJ was bad, as soon as a decent beat came on people would start cheering and dancing around, but then he'd change the song almost immediately
>Cosplay Deviants party was exactly as >>10057788 described. Trashy and boring.
>Burlesque show wasn't terrible but it wasn't really remarkable either
>Roast the Host panel was just an unfunny bitch cursing people out under the guise of "roasting" them
>Tons of cops all over the place for some reason
Overall it just feels like the organizers are getting lazy.

There was food? I was wondering what people were doing, though i wouldn't have bought any if i knew. I, an intellectual, ate 1.5 pounds of trail mix this weekend.

The rave was pretty lame and unpopular but i liked what i saw of snacks's set (and what you described is pretty common for djs (not to say that it's good)). There already weren't many people and then rabbit crime came on and started bleeding people out of the room. The audio was terrible for it though, had to stand off to the side because the middle was a dead zone.

to your point about the food options
>there's a publix 5 minutes away, get a couple subs and store them in the fridge
>avoid the downstairs food place because yes it's shitty hotel takeaway what did you expect
>if you gotta pay hotel prices for food, go to the actual sit down places and get your money's worth

First con experience in several years. It could've been worse.

>> No.10058382

Holmat was my first real con and it was pretty enjoyable overall. It was almost overwhelming how big/crowded it was. I did a plain
clothes cosplay but I think next time I'd wanna do something a little more obvious since I feel I just ended up looking like a dude with weird fashion sense.

Definitely interested in trying to go to another FL con sometime in the spring.
