People seem so sure that CTP's value will drop with the rerelease but to be honest I'm not so sure. If it's retailing for $420-ish on rerelease (could be $400-500 depending on currency conversion and where you live) and especially if it sells out fast, its value will probably just stay there or incease, especially if AP doesn't do an MTO. Moreover, people expect like the original suddenly won't have any added value either, but why should that be the case if it's the original and perfect condition for its age? Sometimes people go for the original over a rerelease depending on certain factors, like unexpected or unadvertised changes in the rerelease (Misty Sky comes to mind - the color of the lace was white instead of matching colors in some of the first rereleases) or quality issues (see the most recent Holy Lantern which apparently didn't wash as well in some cases). Not to mention it will likely be a bloodbath and sell out super fast, like the earlier Misty Sky rerelease after some years was.

Just last thread someone was saying they wouldn't mind buying one secondhand for $900 despite the rerelease.

The manga's author posted a few short prototype chapters on Twitter before he got published which are still online, so maybe we can start with those to give people a taste of the manga. Those are all on Kera.

Did any of you gulls, especially into (old school) sweet, feel "inadequate" or dare i say "ridiculous" looking when in lolita?
These past two years i haven't been wearing lolita much, only one time a month or so (because reasons) even though i still actively bought some. Yet,something changed, I still love sweet more than any other style (even though i like gothic as well),and people tell me it suits me,that my coords are nice yet I can't help but feel "wrong". I almost feel like i'm wearing a costume at times even though i stray away from anything overly childish or costumey/OTT and keep it fairly casual

How do I feel "right" again? It's killing me. Maybe it's because both my parents and my ex used to shame me but now, even though my current SO says she's ok with whatever, i still ask her "won't you be embarassed?" every time we go out together and i wear lolita because i'm an insecure bitch.

I'm not even that old, just turned 22 this month, maybe I should lay off the big head accessories? But I love my head eating bows and maxipad headdresses

I know how you feel, I used to feel like this a lot.
And I gotta say, it's simply this society which I can't turn off.
Whenever I wear really cute-sy pastel sweet coords, I feel so costume-y and weird, because I think "who would ever leave the house like that."
That's because we are not used to seeing someone wearing something like this outside and even the bravest person will get tired of the attention you get. Toned down styles, darker colors and classic is much more close to the alt styles you already see running around.

Now ask yourself: if your style was completely ordinary and noone would treat you differently, would you still feel "wrong" in it?
If yes, maybe this is not the style that suits your inner representation of yourself.
If no, you are just having a hard time with how others see you.

This anon >>10018048 gave great advice. Ever since I started lolita I have been lusting after darker styles and especially old school gothic and aristo but eventually found myself buying sweet again. I love the colors, I love the details and I love cutesy motifs. In the past few years I have sold off nearly all my pink and pastel wardrobe ans replaced it with black and florals without even noticing. Then I was forced to put together my first proper gothic coord and I was sold. Since then I have made a promise to only buy more gothic because no matter how tempting the sweet it I will never feel and look as good in it as in gothic. Of course, I will keep my remaining sweet pieces and continue to wear them too but I admit the attention I get wearing pink vs wearing black is super off putting. I recommend you follow your instincts and wear what you enjoy the most wheter it be sweet or something else despite what's ridiculous to others. In the end you are the only one who is going to loose if you don't.

nayrt but on one hand, wearing pink and light colors does feel good, I do feel pretty, but on the other hand it gets so tiring to wear it when people have such an adverse reaction. Even when I drown everyone out with a big pair of headphones, I can't ignore people talking about me, taking photos or downright treating me as if I'm some sort of second class citzen. Of course some people are nice, but the majority act like I'm some sort of freak show. I love lolita, and I wouldn't give it up just because of the public, but I'm tired. I'm exhausted, and I wish it wasn't such a big deal. My city is usually used to weird fashions as well, so I'm 'lucky'. It's just a lot to deal with sometimes.

You're right, I feel like I'm in the wrong because I'm the outlier.
On the other hand, I don't want to wear gothic. I like sweet too much.

Sometimes you feel better about it and some days you just won't have that energy and that's okay. Pastel sweet isn't for everyday.
Try to chose days that will save you energy. Days when you are mainly travelling in a car, taxi or uber, days you don't walk around a lot but rather stay at one place like a house or café, days when you are not alone.
I couldn't imagine wearing some of my coords without my friends, because their style will be even more OTT.

I am most comfortable with sweet, when I can have this "living in my own small world" thing, when I forget that this style isn't normal.

I know that AP barely makes skirts anymore and I wasn't holding my breath but I was secretly hoping they would just because they're cheaper than dresses and I'm trying not to spend much on clothes right now. I guess I'll just wait another 6 years.

So apparently the new cardigan I got had some serious dye transfer... I only figured this out after I wore it over a dress... then undershirt I wore turned really blue, though luckily the dress was black. Now, I am super afraid to wear this cardigan with anything not black... should washing it a couple times remove all the extra dye? it was literally brand new and I didn't even think to wash it first, I'm a retard.

How much do you think it costs to buy materials for a skirt? Even if you bought fabric that's a similar weight and hand as an AP skirt and nearly identical lace, you're still looking at a skirt that costs less than a secondhand AP skirt goes for on the western market.

Pic related, for example, is going for $198 on LM.
According to AP, the main fabric is polyester organza (their website says organdy but organdy is a different fabric) and the lining is 100% cotton sateen. According to fabric.com, a medium weight 100% cotton sateen is approximately $7/yd and polyester organza is at most $4/yd.
You'd probably need about 3 yards of lining and 5 yards of organza. That puts you at $41.
Daisy lace similar to the one on the apron straps, bodice, and skirt costs around $3/yd if you buy it from Joann's without a coupon and you'd need around 7 yards, taking your total to $62.
Organza ribbon for the bows on the bodice and skirt and for lacing can be bought by the spool, for $5 for 50 yards on Amazon. You only need about 2.5 yards, so that's $0.25.
The appliques like the flowers on the dress can be bought from various sellers on eBay for approximately $0.10/piece. Assuming there's 50 flowers on the dress, that's $5.

All of these factors put together means that the dress costs $67.25, about 1/3 of the price that it's going for on LM.

I don't know why you responded this way. I said what I said because I don't care about these fucking poorfags who don't want to shill out for a JSK. Which was is what >>10017447
suddenly mentioned.

I'm getting a skirt altered currently, I had to buy two of them. $180 for each, already paid the seamstress $300 in work. She's not done because I asked her to add a side bustle. I haven't paid for that part yet. I expect it to be another couple hundred or so.

Doesn't hurt my bank, anon.

If girls on here want to cry about how they need to be able to buy cheap skirts in a luxury fashion, I hope they keep crying like the little bitches they are.

Like I said. You either spend money or you don't.

If a print comes out and there was no skirt cut? And you really wanted there to be?

Pay to have it then.

I won't have sympathy for people who refuse to do what it takes to get what they want. Fucking entitled losers.

Why are we even having this discussion? $70 in raw materials is a lot once you factor in the cost of everything else needed to produce something like this. You can’t give $70 to someone and expect them to churn it out. The knowledge and experience needed to sew something at this level takes years and a good amount of money to acquire. Also a proper sewing machine that can work on this type of fabric and finish seams isn’t exactly cheap. That’s not even taking into account the other tools you need to produce a garment of the same quality.

So who is actually going to buy CTP here?

I've seen many people talk about how they want to, but most are saying they don't have the money. I already paid my SS to reserve the pink set for me and feel like I'm entirely alone? Did people only want the dress because it was so "exclusive" and now no one likes it?

For anything that isn’t a printed main piece from Baby, IW, AP or Meta, always always always wash anything that’s black, red or navy at least once before wearing it. Normie brands are actually kind of notorious for never ever flushing excess dye from their clothes before sending it out for sale, so you always have to wash them before wearing.

If the colour still runs on the second wash, try soaking it in vinegar to “set” the dye.

If it still runs after that, lodge a complaint with the brand, and blacklist them. Their quality doesn’t seem that great anyway if they put out black cardigans that will stain everything it touches.

The older stuff from Baby, IW, AP, Meta do this too, and if you buy a cotton/natural fibre solid in dark coloues I’d still wash them before wearing to flush out excess dye — but with the newer print pieces (and by newer I mean anything after ~2010, ~2012?) the prints seem to have become more colourfast and less likely to have excess runoff.

Labour cost is usually 3x the material cost, so if the materials turn out to be 1/3 the price of a secondhand skirt instead of 1/4, what's wrong with that?

You should just try making your own replica. You'll find out very quickly why people would rather pay $198 for a skirt. It's not like you buy $70 worth of fabric and trim and leave it out overnight with some milk and then house gnomes turn it into a nice skirt for you by morning.

So I need advice gulls, this was one of the first dresses I bought, paid for a SS to order during the preorder period, the whole jazz.
I wore it a few times and it’s just, sat in my closet. I tried selling it once but it didn’t sell. I think my issue is it’s not particularly flattering on me, a mix of being a bit too small everywhere and being a higher waist cut. The waistband comes right below my boobs and makes me look fat, I feel. I’m also not in love with how massive the neckline lace is and also how the colours are more muted in person than in the stock photo.
Do I try and sell again or keep it, i’ve come to terms that I’m never wearing it again as it stands, but i thought if I chop the top of and convert it to a skirt I would wear it more often. I’m confident in my sewing abilities that i won’t just ruin it, but I feel kinda bad messing with a perfectly good OP by cutting it to pieces.
Thoughts?

I never understand when people buy dresses and then worry about the resale value. If you like it, just keep it? Why would you buy something while planning to sell it after?

>> No.10019358

I'm probably just being really petty, but have any of you ever had a girl in your comm straight up copy you? I know it's nbd for people to have the same dress (even in the same colorway) sometimes because that's just how it is, but there's this one girl that's now gone out and bought or wishlisted three separate prints I've worn shortly after I've worn them to a meet she also attended. One or two I'd consider just a matter of having similar taste or a coincidence, but with three there's an actual pattern. Sometimes, I'll wear a dress and she'll comment on how she's "so jealous" or how she wants one too. Honestly, I can't tell if I'm bothered by it in and of itself, or if it's mostly because I otherwise dislike this girl to begin with. A lot of people in our comm also have a problem with her.

>> No.10019359

>>10019358
I've had a somewhat similar problem in the past, except that in my case the girl got a cheap replica of my piece that she coveted, and had the gall to ask to borrow some of my accessories so she could have an exact copy of my coord. I can't say whether this "solution" would work in your case as well but as annoying as it was, I simply turned a blind eye to it until she stopped on her own.

Is she new to the fashion? If she's new I wouldn't be too bothered because when you're new you probably haven't seen that many dresses yet. The novelty of seeing something new kind of makes every new dress a potential wishlist item, if that makes sense? Especially if you can see them worn since dresses tend to look better irl than in stock photos. People who have been around for a while tend to know what they like and not be swayed by every pretty new thing they see. Even so, I don't think I'd personally be that bothered about it if I didn't dislike the girl, and then only because I'd feel like she was trying to somehow associate herself with me by wearing the same dresses

That sounds worse, really. She never asks me for anything or mentions anything other than how she likes the dress and wants one now. At least it hasn't been the same exact cut so far, only the same colorway. She's pretty big and I don't think she can fit anything unshirred. I admit I'm also kind of jealous and annoyed since she buys things I want and could fit into, then proceeds to stuff herself into them. But that part is my own problem.
>>10019360

I don't think it's so much the resale value, but if more like if you paid full price for it now and then next year someone is just giving it away.... you could've had it for free if you were prescient and waited one more year, yanno? And that $500 or $900 they spent could have gone towards their student loan or whatever rather than disappearing into a devalued item that you can now get for nearly nothing.

I mean, they probably still love it and would probably still buy it even if everybody else disliked it to the point they were practically giving it away, but visibly losing money like this is still a little harsh.

If you can actually spare the money I'd say go for it. Seems like you'd be able to sell it to the broke girls who can't afford it right now, this would be the first batch of dresses to go out so you'd be right on top of whatever hype train happens, even if there's another MTO later on. So even if the dress gets to you a year later and you're all "yeah, nah, I thought I liked it but nah", then at least it's not a total loss completely.

If we're actually talking like you'd have to not eat or live without electricity or can't afford school supplies for a while, or you can't pay off your CC and have really high interest rates for the next few months -- no, no dress is ever really worth that.

nayrt but I've started thinking about doing this more often too, because I also feel out of place when in sweet, even super toned down sweet.
when I'm visiting friends and family at their houses or when I'm alone in my own house, that may be a good time to wear sweet, because it's more "private", as sad as it is that it's not as comfortable wearing it out in public more often.
otherwise, public places with limited amounts of people, like a quiet park, are good.
(the "park" where I live has basically almost no one there at any given time, lmao. there's also some other small parks and such that are bigger, or nicer to visit, and still have almost no people around if you go at a good time of day. a couple people drawing attention is better than way more than that imo.)
if you have even one light enough coat to wear (and not during the middle of summer or if you live in a tropical area), you can maybe cover a more OTT sweet coord with it until you arrive at your destination if you are travelling in public, too.

I'm really curious to your guys' opinions since I'm not the most knowledgeable on AP. Since they're now rereleasing CTP, which Imai Kira didn't want to rerelease, and also Horror Garden and Cinema Doll which would go for higher than retail secondhand, do you guys think the MRC JSK has a chance then someday? When's even the last time they did jacquard like this?

Loads of people want it, goes for stupid amounts secondhand, isn't velveteen, seems like it's possible to me. And with Horror Garden only being the JSK and OP I can see them cutting the other cuts even if I do like the skirt.

Anyway, if you've paid her once already, presumably you have her email address. I'd just try a google search with that, or her username, popping her email into facebook search, see if you can find any of her other accounts that you can politely message her with.

I'd do that before the dispute -- etiquette aside, if you open a dispute and then close it, you can't re-open it again. So say you open it, sellers comes back and says she can't invoice you now since her account is under dispute, you close it, skirt arrives and has a problem, you can't open another dispute.

Box pleats? There's quite a few actually. Usually the marine/sailor dresses, the "school" or "academy" dresses will have some pleats, and if you trawl through them some of them will have box pleats. Then there's the other chocolate jacquard series. I think nearly every release has had something with box pleats in some form.

Those are just the obvious ones that are easy to find, if you go through the "pleats" tag on lolibrary you could probably find a handful more stuff that has box pleats as well.

They're honestly great and will bend over backwards to help you buy whatever, provided they actually have stock left somewhere. Their rakuten is also sold out of the same colourway though, so your last hope is that it's way less popular in some walk-in Meta branch store and they can find just one more hairclip to let you have it.

Your other hope is an MTO re-release, but given that Amber Rose isn't even sold out I don't really think it'll come to that.

So I guess your odds aren't completely great. They might still be able to find one somewhere to sell to you, but maybe it's also time to consider alternatives if they're just all sold out of it.

Since we can't try on clothes like other people, I think almost every lolita has had a remorse buy. Some big, some small, but I'm sure everyone has done it. The good thing is that you can just sell it, if that's the case. I honestly love that dress, it's really cute. So no worries, everyones had a remorse buy, but maybe you'll love it. Its sometimes worth the risk.

Is there any chance Meta will rerelease Grimoire or do one of those skirt pack releases with the off cuts of the print? I flipflopped on it due to money and by the time I decided to buy it all the versions I wanted were gone

As this one is half upfront half later, it doesn’t apply. But, if the MTO is fully paid upfront, you can let them send it to a Japanese address, like for example one from Tenso. I have done that with another store and it went fine. It is cheaper than using an SS.
Have to admit the waiting and not knowing the exact release date, did freak me out, but I tend to worry a lot about everything.

Also some Shopping Services offer a Japanese address service and some of them accept COD payments for that service, you of course have to pay the SS the ammount upfront.
However you still have to pay an SS fee, so using one of the various Shopping Service on FB would be easier and cost you pretty much the same ammount.

I don't know about a rerelease but it's worth to email Meta and ask about the piece you want, if I'm not mistaken they can check their in-store stock for you so you might still have a chance to get the cut/s you want.

Yeah, woke up this morning to an email from them sent about 20 minutes after I filled the inquiry saying it sold out literally everywhere and I'd be put on a wait list. Ugh I really hope they make more stock or do an MTO for the darkness and garnet colors or something, hot BS how fast those sold out. I guess I'll try and be victim to someone selling it on Mercari/Fril if anyone will since it's not AP nor a kimono/hakama set. I just really liked the hairclip and felt like it was the perfect accessory.

>>10019951
I hope for you they rerelease. This was faster than even pretty recent hot AP releases, damn. Even had more time to buy that bat bag that came out with Ghost Night Bride than the accessories for this and the JSK followed shortly.

Oh, >>10020111 here, it seems like a few of us were burned. I'm guessing from my email from Meta the dresses might be sold out everywhere, but I'd email not only just to ask by chance but also maybe if enough people ask they'll do a rerelease. I know they've done that in the past.

This is such a stupid problem, but I haven't heard many people having this issue. My wardrobe has zero cohesion. I love almost all styles of lolita.' I don't even have a color scheme in between styles that I like, I just like a lot. It seems like so many lolitas I follow have such defined styles, they like sweet, gothic or classic and it makes me want to have a style like that. I own a lot of things but storage is always a problem, I wish I could cut down so I could save space, and if all the accessories and dresses I owned could be transformed into the same substyle I'd have an enviable wardrobe, but instead I have a mishmash of pieces that don't really go with each other. I don't know if there's anything I can do to solve this, but I'm sick of buying things only to find that they won't really go with anything/I need a missing piece.

Does anyone relate?

>> No.10020129

>>10020123
Yeah, I only buy pieces that I really love, but as a result I have a lot of random things that I can only make 1 coord with. Sometimes I see versatile things that would fit well with my wardrobe but I just don't love it enough to buy it.

This. And I feel like such an idiot when there's a meet and I have a couple of things I could wear but none of them are *quite* right, or I just don't have the right hair accessory. None of my pieces have versatility because I just don't have a defined style. To someone who has a defined style, they would be.
Buying shoes is a nightmare.

All I want is them to rerelease the not garbage cut of Traumerei. It's getting towards Christmas, I want it so bad. But then again in their rereleases of very popular prints they never rerelease the cuts that people actually pay top dollar for.

When even was that previous rerelease of the more OTT cut, was that 2 or 3 years ago?

I feel like I have the opposite problem, I own like, 6 pink blouses for the 10 dresses that match them. I don’t own a single white blouse. I like the cohesiveness of my wardrobe but I’ve had to mentally have the conversation with myself “hey. Stop buying pink blouses. you have too many.”
I tried to branch out and at least get a white blouse but I didn’t like any of them. I just like pink I guess

Ah thanks anon! I want it in red the most but it never pops up, I'd maybe take navy. I kind of agree (even if I'm a hypocrite since I own plenty of Halloween prints but I excuse those as overall gothic), but Traumerei is so gorgeous and I kind of feel a cozy connection to the print. It really reminds me of the rainbow row in Charleston, SC which is near where half of my family lives. I'd love to own it and wear it Nov/Dec and show it to my grandparents.

The OP is also a super pretty cut, hopefully someday anon! And at least if they do it's not like it will be some print everyone is battling each other for.

I’m similar, I hoard so many black blouses and think because I wear gothic that they’ll just go with anything but in reality I have one that goes with everything and the rest only go with one or two specific skirts and dresses each. I bought that new green moitie blouse as an attempt to branch out and it’s really nice, but needs a shitton of alterations in order to make it look good with anything I actually planned on wearing it with because it doesn’t fit me well at all. I was so excited to wear it too but I don’t have time to alter it yet and just keep falling into patterns of wearing the same one black blouse with everything even though I have a ton more. I need to stop.

I have black and white blouses, and I thought, hey~ this is great, it'll work with any dress I have. NOPE. Not at all... They work with some dresses, but some dresses just need other styles. And while I could technically wear a black or white blouse with any of my dresses, would it look good? nope. Mixing styles doesn't always look great, then you have to take into consideration materials. Torchon lace on a blouse won't look amazing with a tulle lace dress, etc.

Keep wearing sweet as long as it makes you happy, anon. There's no requirement to "grow out of" sweet once you reach a certain age or something. Just do what makes you happy.
