Japonica and Tenshi are the two most popular. Tenshi is a little more expensive but is a native english speaker and some say provides better customer service. I use Japonica because they're a bit cheaper haha. But with both they will treat return customers better than fresh ones, but you have to get your foot in the door at some point.

I am really struggling to find clothing (normie and jfash) that doesn't require tons of tailoring to wear. The only brands I've had any luck with are Katie and Milk, mostly because they make a lot of casual, knit pieces that aren't fitted like lolita dresses. I've literally swam in the few pieces of Angelic Pretty and BTSSB that I've bought. Even tying the corset laces and waist ties, there is just too much extra fabric.

My measurements are 83-58-80.

Unfortunately I really don't like most of LL. I should have specified that, I guess. I'm not into the look of LL/Amavel/Ank Rouge. The quality just isn't there, and it feels kind of too young to me, if that makes sense. I'm 26 and live in a cool climate, and the whole "lots of leg and shoulder" look doesn't really do anything for me.

I'm more drawn to either full on cute (like AP) or slightly more "mature" brands like Katie, Milk, Jane Marple. Fint makes some nicer pieces, too, but they also seem quite big.

To me the typical cuts and patterns of LL and whatnot always feel young, in the same way that Hollister or Abercrombie or F21 feels young. I can't quite explain it, but that's how I feel. I just don't like it and it doesn't suit my style.

Maybe it's because most of the lolitas I follow and know are older, but I don't really associate lolita with any sort of age group, even sweet. I don't go for super sweet prints personally.

I'll second Liz Lisa. It's technically made for teens iirc so it's nothing bigger than Small, always.

You can still wear BtSSB and AP, but pay very close attention to the cuts and measurements. OPs seems to be the "small size" for AP and JSKs are just huge, but that's not always the rule. AP has just blown up in size in the past few years because of westerners, so try older sweet pieces. You can see Japanese models swimming in some of the newer AP pieces.

AP is kinda notorious for releasing very generously sized pieces though, but mainly the JSK's or items with shirring have this "problem".
OP's always seem to run smaller with this brand, same goes for skirts. I think this intentional so they can cater to smaller sizes.
Generally, you don't want your piece to be huge on you, or too tight in this fashion. If uncertain, check the measurements AP provides on their webshop or on lolibrary.
You have a small bust, I doubt you will be too large and you will probably look lovely in these OP's. Or any piece with shirring that doesn't go up to like 100~120+ cm max and has back (most common), side or front corset lacing.
Corset lacing helps you adjust the size so it becomes smaller (you probably know this already).
For your size I recommend unshirred OP's with a max measurement up to 90~93 ish, any larger might be a bit too large for you.
If it has shirring, check out the minimum measurements instead of the maximum ones.

Any good sources for non ita early 2000s style twintail wigs (the big soft cotton candy colored ones, not the ita rainbow limp greasy shit on Amazon)

You can get Botox in your armpits to help control sweating, just incase you never heard of it but it’s a thing people do.
If it’s just sweat and not stinking I wouldn’t worry too much about it anon and go for it.
If it helps try to pick characters with costumes you won’t be overly hot in to help keep your temperature even.
You can also put special sweat soak up pads in the sleeves of your shirt under your armpits, to prevent wet marks, use a combo of these things if you go to a con or even at a photo shoot if that’s what you’re into.

You can get fillers in some of the areas if that’s an option you want to look into, but yeah contouring is a great way to go about it, and other makeup tricks for enlarging eyes/lips to match if those are your issues. (Like overlining lips in areas they’re not even or lining one eye slightly more than the other, eye tape if one eye folds more than another, etc)
I know everyone says the perfect beauty has perfect symmetry but I personally find girls that I think are cutest usually are a bit asymmetric.

Just noticed you specified wigs, so I’ll specifically answer for that too.
They can’t survive away from a host for long so what I would do just to be safe is apply the lice killing shampoo treatments to the wigs as well, and then once dry seal them in bags for 2 weeks to be sure, then wash again to get any dead lice out.
Any hair accessories like combs you can soak in hot temp water for like 10 minutes and also dry and seal away.
This would all just be for peace of mind because lice can only survive 1-2days without a source of food, so if they can’t get to something in 1-2days they’re done, the 2 weeks sealing is mostly to ensure even if eggs hatch that they’ll die out too.

If it's this kind of cage-style hoop skirt, you can wrap and tie two of the tiers together with a length of ribbon (or rope or whatever). So you don't have to cut it off.

If you want to cut it off, the fabric in between will likely fray. For this cage-style hoop skirt, you can fray-check the ends, fold it upwards, then stitch it down to keep it from being annoying.

If it's the kind of hoop skirt where there's solid fabric all around, you're better off taking it to a seamstress and having her shorten it for you. It's fairly easy to cut off the bottom loop and simply hem it, it's only annoying/difficult if you need to learn how to sew before you try to shorten the skirt.

Thick bangs are hard to achieve if you don’t have thick hair, you’ll have to have them start so far back up on your head to get a true thick bang otherwise it’ll jsut not end up how you want it and will look like those thin Korean bangs that are popular but imo don’t look so cute.
Another thing to note is that bangs are effort, you can’t just get up and go in them on casual days or they’ll look gross. You’ll have to at least put some effort into curling them slightly or teasing them to get them to lay nicely, every single day. I wish I knew that before getting bangs so I’m passing that on here just so you’re aware before you make the commitment.
Ask your stylist if you have the correct hair to get a thick bang like that first of all and then discuss what your worries are with them.
Lots of people cut their own bangs but that’s a risky route because you can easily end up with shitty bangs that don’t actually suit you, when a consultation with a stylist will at least tell you what realistic options you have and what are the best routes to get the closest to what you want but that will still suit you, since not every hair color or hair cut works for all people.

Some of these have lines with robes that work like bustles to make them shorter. Very confinient. But not all have those sadly.

However, some dresses just have a pool of buyers who plain do not care. Usually brand dresses under $90 aren't the most in demand and people care more about getting as cheap as possible instead of paying more for a brand new dress. For those who have larger wardrobes and have to keep it outside of a closet, how do you guys go about it?

I just moved from my mom's place into a small house sharing with two friends. I used to keep my lolita wardrobe in the guest room closet, but now we don't have that. Currently it's in tubs which I hate. There's a finished basement which I can probably rig something up in to the side. Mostly eyeing either a custom PAX wardrobe from IKEA, which could be costly, or getting a super heavy duty Z-rack that holds 400 pounds, but then I'm worried about spiders getting in my clothes even with a rack cover and I would need to buy something else for my shoes and bags. I don't think I'll have much luck secondhand since I need something kind of big.

Is there an option I'm not thinking of? How do you guys have your wardrobes if not in a closet?

I just do a lot of rolling closets, the one from Ikea PS 2016. Mostly because I like collecting sets, so I store the dresses on the hanger, matching bags and headwear in the compartment underneath, then hang sock organisers to store matching legwear and matching accessory sets.

Though, this is again because I like collecting sets, so it makes sense for me to have several individual collections of "library theme", "cat theme", "4 colourways of CDC sets and two sets of its matching jewellery on this side and 4 colourways of DDC and noe matching set of jewellery on the other side", and so on like that.

I think if you're not certain that this is going to be your final house (it seems like you're sharing with friends and will eventually move out at some point?) then I wouldn't really invest that heavily into built-in things that you would have to rebuild every time you move. Instead of one super heavy duty Z-rack maybe just do a series of smaller racks.

Spiders are kind of a different issue. If you don't want tubs, they'd probably get into any closet, with or without doors. I'd suggest insect repellent, and wearing your clothes often, so they don't have a dark undisturbed spot to settle in. If you have clothes you won't wear that much, put it in a vacuum bag so insects can't get into them.

Most of those come on regular hangers, so nothing's stopping you from getting 5 or 6 and hanging them up in your closet. Their main appeal isn't that they can hold a million socks, it's that you can fold your OTKs up so the print is visible through the clear pocket, so you'll always know which socks are the ones you're looking for (unless you're me and have like a whole row or black lace tights followed by a row of white lace tights, haha).

There's also these kinds of drawer organisers that you can put socks in, so they don't turn into a jumbled mess, if that's what you're looking for instead.

Depends really heavily on which ones you get.

The lightweight ones (usually from like Target or Tesco) that you can take apart and repack (for when you move houses) usually only hold like 20~35kg. You just plan on having multiples of them and spread your closet out in the basement, instead of having one large closet that holds everything.

The heavier ones that are really sturdy and hold more weight are generally ones that don't collapse, so you'll end up having to charter moving trucks when you move.

The PS 2016, if you're asking about that, really only holds maybe 10 of the cotton dresses with built in pettis, or maybe 20+ lightweight chiffon dresses.

Generally if you aren't nailing them to the wall or making them built-in, the danger is that most clothes being hung up causes the weight to be centred towards the top of the closet, not the bottom, which makes free-standing or rolling closets highly unstable when they hold a lot of clothes . So the lighter-weight, more portable, more easily collapsible closets are built to handle less weight, in case it tips over and crushes somebody.

Is it possible to make the foot part of socks smaller in a way that won't unravel? I'm a JP 22.5 and I find that a lot of brand socks (AP and AatP especially) are just too big for my feet, despite that being included within the size range labeled on them. After walking a few blocks, the heel part will ride up over the edge of my shoe, and make a horrible bulge above my ankle. Have any of you found a solution to this? It's a synthetic, not natural fibre. You'll be fine. I say this as someone who owns it in ivory and also just washed Ghost Night Bride in wine red last week. You can throw a Dylon colour catcher sheet or some Synthrapol in if you're nervous.

More importantly, put the dress inside a laundry bag so you don't snag the dress fabric, and wash it with a gentle laundry detergent. Remove the detachable bow and put it in a seperate laundry bag, make sure all the bags are secure.

Okay so this is going to make my lack of understanding about fabrics very obvious, but I have a question about velvet.

I have a velvet dress (not lolita) that I throw in the washing machine all the time. It's held up fine for about 5 years, no damage to the fibres.

However I assume it's not actually velvet because of the way it's so easy to wash, unless you can indeed throw velvet into the wash?

Both are true. Bodyline often uses thicker material, polyblends and polyester. Because of this they're often thick, sturdy and very durable.

Because of this they're also thick, drape poorly, unbreathable, feels like plastic or feels like being covered in either tarp material or a heavy curtain, have odd texture or no texture, and for no particular reason they have this one really stiff tulle lace that's really itchy because it's so stiff.

It's a bit like asking whether an evening gown is good because it's made from a potato sack.
