It would be dependent on your matches specification. I would not send items in anything less than 8/10 condition if your match specifies they would be okay receiving secondhand pieces. If they say they are okay with more used items if it is considered harder to find, again anything less than 5/10 condition, ripped, stained or badly damaged would not be acceptable.

At the absolute bare minimum the item needs to be washed if it has been worn, if it has signs of wear/ use or anything like that I would not consider it in good enough condition to send.

Hope this is a bit clearer, I know what some people consider lightly used can vary quite a bit.

Also I think you should rearrange fields on the 4th page because the first one is "Outside of /cgl/..." and it distracts. I put a lot of efforts in it and now kind of exhausted when it's time to fill actually important "If you are into J-Fash" field. I know this got extremely debated in the last thread and I ended up a bit confused on what was decided in the end, so forgive me for the question:

In the google doc and last thread we specified mostly just "feedback." In the sign-up form, it specifically says "seller feedback" for the two tiers where feedback can be submitted.

Does this specifically imply being the seller only counts? Or does having only positive feedback for purchasing things/comments saying paid quickly/etc allow as well?

Honestly not trying to start any argument, I just don't really get rid of things at this point, and don't want to cause any issues by signing up for a tier I'm not technically qualified in I suppose. I'm looking at $50-75 if that changes things, not $100+.

If you are already Whitelisted, you are fine to join either and may submit feedback if you want. If you are not Whitelisted and want to join higher tiers, it will need to be seller feedback as this proves you were the one sending the items.

God, ITT I see so much nicest people from all over the world who want to make other people happy. But
- we live in different cities, different countries
- speak different languages
- most of all, we have different interests, hobby, priorities, values of life
So to make each other happy even once in a year we should make pretty efforts, still risking to disappoint our match regardless anything we do.
So even if we would met IRL, there is so small chance we could make a pleasurable conversation.
So even if we would live in one city, we may just saying "hello" to each other on meet-ups just because we love different things and just don't know how to warm each other properly. It's much like talking in different languages, but in soul terms.

If you're a lolita that also listed other interests (other j-fash, fandoms, itabags, etc) on the forms - would you be disappointed if your presents focused mostly on the other interests rather than lolita? My match has really different tastes than me in terms of lolita so I'm not so confident about finding her pieces that she'll like... but we have a bunch of other interests in common that I feel much more confident shopping for.

Lolita here who also made sure to list a large amount of other interests - I know I certainly wouldn't mind! I put those other things on my form for a reason, they're things I like that I would be happy to get a gift for. Hopefully your person is the same. After all if you were an OTT sweet type of person who got a simple Miho Matsuda + Sheglit wearing gothic or something they'd rather you get them something they like rather than you floundering for an item that would suit them and missing the mark completely.

And in the case that the package does get rejected, then the situation would be treated the same way as though the package got lost (i.e. you're in the clear if you have proof that you sent it to the exact address you were provided with). After that should be judged case by case imo. Personally, if it was my screw-up that made it so I wasn't able to receive the package, I would foot the cost of having re-sent to me.

Unfortunately for me, it requires a name. If my exchange doesn't provide me with one then I will fill it in with whatever, and after what happens it will not be in my care anymore. So if you happen to be my exchange you better keep that in mind.

I've never seen it this bad before. I've seen people ask for colour preferences or wardrobe lists so they don't buy anything the person already has, but being like "what colours of markers should I get you? or "I'm planning to go to this kind of store to get you this scent, hope you're excited!" kind of takes the fun out of it.

This. I can't speak for every secret santa event in the past but I've been in the past two ones and it was fairly common for everyone to communicate and it wasn't really a big deal. I think if people want to communicate with their matches it shouldn't be a big deal. When I did it with my matches, they'd never say exactly what they're getting me and I always ended up pleasantly surpised and satisfied. So far it just seems to be "anon do you like x type of things or what do you mean by this?".

I don't think it was as prevelant in the past because matches had each other emails. I guess that's why the thread seems more full of questions and what not than in the past.

Though I understand you're worried about being grinched, lack of communication doesn't make someone a bad santa. It probably means you did a great job with your form and your santa has figured out what to buy for you. Or maybe your santa hasn't done enough searching to have questions for you yet. You may be anxious for them to get in touch but clearly that's not everyone's style. This may seem defensive but I haven't always been mentioned in these sorts of check ins before and still got my gifts every time. Everyone sends the organisers proof of their gift and shipping so the grinches will be identified then.

NTA but Settle Back Easy Jim. It's not everyone's style to not communicate either so I think they're being fair. Next year we should have a question on the form that states whether or not you'd like your match to be open with communication or just only be there for questions only. I don't know why everyone has such a stick up their ass about tradition this year but if everything is fien and the match hasn't gone out of their way to contact santa or helpers yet just go "Hey Match xxx everything is fine but I'll let you know if I have questions" and be done with it.

It obviously depends on the amount of questions and how detailed they are but I think most people here so far have asked questions to avoid giving their match specific things they don't like, rather than to spoil the entire content of what they're sending.

for example the stationery question, if the form doesn't mention it anywhere but the sender is thinking 'a lolita might like some brand stationary' then imo its fine to ask. There's plenty of different stationery items so its not like it spoils the gift.

Going 'hey ID ---- I'm sending you this and this, is that good for you' is different but that's a personal opinion on what crosses the line.

Honestly this whole thing is personal opinion. Obviously some people are going “why would I contact my giftee unless something’s wrong?” and some people are going “why hasn’t my santa contacted me, is something wrong?” I don’t see any harm in reassuring someone their Santa has checked their emails and hasn’t forgotten about the exchange, and I do think it’s spiteful if your giftee has posted about being worried about radio silence and you ignore them anyway. I was excited to find out my match and let them know someone’s planning gifts for them.

Woohoo, finally got my time to manage SS business!
I wrote out the whole essay on the few A4 sheets to make a handy map of interests of my giftee and to make it easy to brainstorm ideas for gift. I feel myself like a detective at the investigation board and finally I'm ready for actual shopping.

Also, I'd like to say I agree we need separate field in further application forms with one's measurements. I feel myself like wanting to gift some clothes, but I found no clues about appropriate sizes in form nor in social media of my giftee. Not like I'm lacking of ideas, just saying...

Well, I just finished up my shopping right now and now I see that $40 tier is very much OK for me because I ended up with total invoices for $280, including shipping costs for everything. I took few more additional items just in case some others will be delayed in unreasonable time so I could send what I have before December. I also took some washi tape and stickers to decorate my gift and card - and they should be delivered as well.
I feel myself a bit dump since maybe I should not be such lazy and research more different marketplaces and not buy everything at Etsy, but there was so much nice things and each one was not so expensive...
Well, whatever, now I just confident that I could make an appropriate gift and pretty sure my giftees will be pleased since I managed to touch every valuable point of their interest.
