What's the stigma with conlitas?
Does not being a daily loli automatically make you a conlita?
Call me naive but I don't see much wrong with it as long as you coord well and put effort into it.
(I for example don't get to wear lolita a lot outside cons and some really irregular comm meets. Daily just isn't for me tho.)

some people think conlitas are more often ita than not, this isn’t true. There’s no more ita conlitas than there are its daily lolitas and it’s honestly just a myth made up by people who think they’re better than others because they have more opportunities to wear lolita and take this fashion waaay too seriously. Not all of us can wear lolita everyday, myself included. nothing wrong with being a conlita as long as you dress well.

How do I remove discolouration from coloured AP lace? There's no staining or anything underneath the lace, and whatever is on the lace wasn't from me

Is the a possibility the lace was discoloured from production? It doesn't look stained... just slightly faint and off colour, and it's one small section

A significant part of it is that for conlitas, it's functionally a costume. Inb4 you say it's not-- it is. I'm not talking about people who wear it once a week or once a month, but about people who wear it exclusively to cons.

>> No.9999813

>>9999772

That's not a conlita.

A conlita is someone who treats lolita as an alternative "cosplay costume". Usually they only wear lolita so that they can walk around in fancy costumes for attention.

The stigma here is that they treat lolita as a costume and not a fashion, which is something lolita has been fighting against. The other thing is when a lolita talks to a conlita, they have nothing in common. Usually a lolita, especially a daily lolita, will care about the brands, the quality of her clothes. A conlita is usually only concerned with how flashy her costume is because she will only wear it for one day and might not even "repeat her costume" again. So the conversation will go nowhere with someone who can't tell the difference between Angelic Pretty and Angel Heart and now the lolita will feel a bit disgruntled with someone who looks similar but has very different goals.

That's basically what it boils down to, they look like us but they are only pretending. It's kind of like a reverse pretend princess where they have the clothes and not the heart for lolita.

I think it really depends on the stain and color of the stain, and the type of lace. Is it discoloration on white lace from age? Is it bleeding color? Is it just like a stain? I've gotten out really gross stains before with a vinegar and baking soda soak.

It's like approaching a person who self identifies as a goth, but in actuality they only really like wearing black and don't know (and don't care to know) anything at all about what goth actually is.
If you can or choose to wear lolita to cons exclusively, you do you; but if you purposely put together elaborate coords for conventions, make special props for each one and own separate, individual coords instead of a functioning wardrobe, you come across as treating the fashion like a costume and yes, you will be looked down on for this.

Exactly this, the girls who just can't functionally wear lolita often for whatever reason aren't who we're talking about when we say conlita. Conlitas are the girls who will see someone in a toned down coord going about their day and say shit like "wow, nice AP dress, you're so brave for wearing that stuff to class/out shopping/ to work etc." or "I find it so stressful planning my outfits to wear to conventions and stuff, I could just NEVER wear it daily like you, it seems so troublesome!" Like sure you need a thick skin to wear lolita daily, but that goes for all alt fashion. They make lolita so much more complicated than it needs to be and then complain it's this big excessive, unreasonable thing to wear when it's totally not.

Talking to them about the fashion sometimes feels like an array of backhanded compliments even if you're wearing something extremely simple and low effort. Like you're just so unreasonable and weird to wear a casual coordinate that just reads to normies as a dress with a border print. When I eventually realise those kinds of girls are the kind that see lolita as a flashy costume to only wear to conventions and no where else, it's disappointing because I always want to talk about the fashion with people who understand it and love it as much as me, not people who wear it less than 3 times a year to cons and have such a shallow understanding besides knowing the names of a couple brands.

Idk, I just find it annoying when they take some judgy high ground as if wearing lolita daily is so far fetched. It's really not, they just over complicate the fashion way more than it needs. Like how exactly am I 'brave' and 'out there' for wearing a sack dress and a beret?

>> No.10000051

>>10000046
Nayrt it’s not just physically uncomfortable, wearing lolita is mentally exhausting. Fancy clothes draw your own attention like a keychain on the back view mirror in the car. Also you have to track your skirt all the way so you don’t knock stuff down or don’t get trapped. People who say wearing lolita is as comfy as wearing blank hoodies with jeans probably never been actually wearing it on daily basis.

>> No.10000052

I've never heard about this before but after reading others' answers I think the stigma is based off stereotypes and not really worth any attention. If someone gives you shit for wearing lolita mostly at cons, well they don't deserve your time.

I'm a weird mixture of a conlita and regular lolita. The honest answer is sometimes I just cbf putting the effort in to make myself look good in lolita - especially for a trip to go grocery shopping or errand running. It's a lot of makeup and hair prep for an hours or two before and with a petticoat I take up space on buses or narrow aisles. Not to mention if I'm out shopping for clothes it's just impractical. I'll wear lolita on my days off if it suits the occasion but most work days I'll wear some variation of jfashion like fairy kei or just pastels in general - because it's easier and I get a lot less questions. My family straight up don't really like it and one of my friends has asked me not to wear lolita because they're uncomfortable with the amount of attention it attracts to our group when we're out. I get that, they don't wear alternative fashion and when they asked me out to go to lunch they didn't ask to have strangers taking photos of us eating without permission.

That said I think wearing sweet lolita out in general is brave. Pinks and pastels don't fit in as much as browns and jewels tones and even normal people will understand a quick 'I'm goth' if you mutter it at them. People who see sweet Lolita will usually say more things, stare more, ask more, even assume it's a sex thing and in general sweet Lolita gets more attention. If you're not used to being stared at, made fun of or having strangers think they can just talk to you because of what you're wearing then it can be really anxiety inducing.

Wearing lolita, *any* kind of lolita, can be brave depending on where you live. A bunch of boys harrassed me and my friends in the streets, even going as far as to touch/groping us. And we weren't even wearing lolita that day, just some pastel stuff bought in normie stores. Obviously, getting told "you are brave wearing lolita out" can have so many different meanings. But sometimes you ARE brave.

I feel like a lot of "j-fashion" is weird to the rest of the world, so they can only see it as OTT, so they only wear it that way. I remember when I loved fairy kei people in that community would complain some coordinates "weren't fairy kei" because they weren't OTT enough. Normies can only appreciate Jfash when it's completely impractical. Con goers only wear Jfash for attention, so they try to be as attention grabbing as possible.

We've all heard of buying the same dress in different colorways but has anyone here ever bought the same colorway of a dress but in different styles (JSK, OP)? I'm currently considering doing this with a series I like but I'm not sure if it's waste of money and space. Ideally I would keep just one style, but I see the charms of both versions. The JSK is more modern and versatile whereas the OP is really old-fashioned and doll-like. I think that the charm of the OP can't be replicated by coording the JSK with a blouse which is why I wouldn't just keep the JSK.

I have actually cleaned off brown stains from lavender lace with vinegar and baking soda.

First I tried soaking it warm water and detergent for a couple of hours. This might just work if the stain is not so bad. Then I rinsed it, and resoaked in water and white vinegar, and also mixed vinegar and baking soda into a paste and put on the tough stains. I let it soak for hours, then rinsed and washed again with detergent to get rid of the smell. Now I wish I had taken before and after photos because this was a lavender print headbow with lavender lace and terrifying mystery stains, and now it looks perfectly clean, and the colors have not washed out compared to the matching print jsk.

Good luck and take some before and after photos at least for yourself!

How would you rate a buyer who had a weird passive-aggressive tone in messages after they bought the item (i thought it might be language problems + trying to sound very polite) and something that may or may not be an attempt at scamming? The buyer bought the item, then promptly claimed I gave them a fake tracking number instead of asking what's wrong with it first (I used a different shipping service) and then, as soon as I told them about how to track it, a Paypal claim for unauthorized transactions opened. I know these either open if the buyer directly contacts paypal about it or if they manually reverse a payment with their bank (as in, going to the bank and asking them to reverse the payment) but even then, you have to justify yourself and paypal asks if you did it because a)there was sonething wrong with the purchase, b)it was an unauthorized transaction or c)it was a mistake on your side. So in that case she would've gone with b). The address she gave me including the name are the same as on her paypal, so the claim must've been false anyway (PP also closed it on the next day). I asked her about it but she didn't reply. It all sounds so fishy, but she was friendly when she asked about the item, only has positive feedback so far and has a social media presence.
In the end the transaction went how it supposed to go but it could've been worse. So should I give her a positive, neutral or negative one?

>>10006285
Normally when people ask about making their own J-fashion brand I'm very much
>Don't do it, save yourself

but yamikawaii's got a special place where it's very indie focused so there's a lot of room for smaller starting brands. I will note however, despite yamikawaii and menhera having a reputation as being very 'trendy' right now, the customer pool is not really that large. These are still very niche fashions with niche communities. Additionally with all the misinformation out there, many people may avoid you altogether (when I initially started focusing more on menhera, a lot of my lolita fans expressed a lot of confusion and distaste until I explained to them what menhera actually was)

First step is to get in the habit of making stuff. Make art, plan designs, post WIPs, post your art, see what your friends think. The hardest part of starting anything is getting in the habit of regularly making things.

Second step I'd say is to start a social media presence for your brand. Make a habit of regularly posting on instagram, facebook, etc.

Once you have built those habits, you can focus on branding, sales, etc.

As far is manufacturing goes, the cheapest way to start is to use a print-on-demand service. I used to recommend Redbubble, but recently it's been brought to light that there's a lot of art theft happening there. For thigh highs there's only a couple of suppliers, as a newbie I'd say to start with yumelixir as she accepts lower minimums, though she's a new service and there's been some reports of minor variations/issues in prints.

Profit-wise, the best thing to start with is screen-printed shirts. There are local screen-printers in most towns and cities, and the profit margins on those are much closer to livable than dye-sub places.

Anon I also recommend joining the menhera discord, there's a ton of artists on there who are very helpful. There's also a couple of good menhera facebook groups (and also the awful 'Yami Kawaii' one, which can be good for advertising but just note that it's run by a serial drama llama and the extra sketch KawaiiGoods)

Oh, extra piece of advice, make sure not to tag anything 'menhera-kei'. While 'menhera' is a word created for and by the menhera community, 'menhera-kei' means more like 'sterotypes of the mentally ill' and is used negatively. A lot of yamikawaii and menhera fans actively block things with that tag.

Best of luck anon! If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask :)

Is selling vintage or antique loli-able items on LaceMarket frowned upon?

I go to a lot of estate sales and find more cute shit than I could ever personally wear. I hate leaving them behind knowing the family will just toss what doesn't sell in the dumpster, and I'm sure some other classic lolitas would be interested in the pieces.

No, there is no way to directly contact a seller on mercari or fril. Its really iffy to say. If its a custom made dress it may take a while unless they have the dress already made and are just shipping out orders. Once made It would take maybe 5 to 7 days to arrive to the taobao warehouse.

If its being made on the spot it might take 3 months or maybe one just to be created depending on what the seller says.

I usually like to ask the taobao chat to ask the seller how long the item will take to make a dress.

As for your other items arriving it probably wont take long , as long as its in stock they ship as soon as you pay I believe, for me it takes 5 to 7 days.

You also have to take into account where the seller is to the taobao warehouse. You wont know and I dont think therws a way of finding out that.

I hope this helps. Getting dresses on time can be difficult with taobao .

Kind of hard to answer, since we don't know how colour-blind you are exactly. Maybe what looks like different shades of one single colour to you looks horrible to everyone else. Sorry about being blunt.

But on a general answer -- it depends a lot on how far off they are, and what the undertone is. Lavender is a good example. AP's entire lavender either skews bluish purple, or warm pink. If your entire outfit is bluish and then you throw in one really pink lavender, it's going to look out of place because it's the only item that's pinkish (even though it's lavender) and everything else is blueish. If nothing else, at least try to keep the undertones (warm, cold) kind of consistent and the shades not too far off.

Also never use it as an argument, remember, the rules only help you look good. If you don't look good, you don't look good. You can't go backwards and argue that everyone needs to agree you look good just because everything you're wearing is technically pink and they technically don't need to 100% match.

>> No.10010087

>>10009842
Like others have said, it depends on the shades and how far off they are, like pink lavender vs blue lavender and blue mint vs green mint or dark pink vs light pink.

However, there are also a lot of autistic anons who like to rag on people with the tiniest variations or say dumb shit like "golds don't match". So take that with a grain of salt because even AP can't match it's own mints and lavenders. Sometimes they even call the same color sax or lavender depending on the release so as long as you are using your best judgement and maybe asking a bit of concrit, you should be okay.

definitely not, it's a solid main piece. As another anon said it could be considered an IW replica but Sailor can only be done so many ways and given that the IW dress was a pseudo halter neck while the Bodyline version has a full back it's much sturdier

>> No.10010342

>>10010095

Honestly, if you can/want to only ever own one main piece for a good, long time, I'd go for a plain-ish IW jsk instead of something with an obvious sailor theme. You can stick a blouse with a sailor collar underneath a plain jsk to still get that sailor theme, but still switch out to a different blouse for a different look, then mix and match it up with shawls and cardigans. And with a plainer dress you can practically throw on any novelty bags, keep the rest of the outfit simple, and not worry the themes don't match. So much more versatile than being stuck with only one sailor lolita theme.

The Bodyline dress itself doesn't seem bad, but if I could only chose one dress for a year, it wouldn't be that dress.

>> No.10010382

>>10010095
I own that dress and love it, but there are some down sides:

1) It's very heavy so not summery at all. You need something underneath, but since it already has a collar matching a blouse could be tricky.
2) It's very short. I'm thin so I went for the smallest size, but it turns out my 165cm are too many for it.
3) Bodyline has highed up its prices and almost nothing is worth its full price nowadays.

In the end I agree with >>10010342 , they gave you very good advice. If I were you I'd buy secondhand brand, it might be just a little above Bodyline prices but way much more worth it.

Hope I can post a question about instagram here. I have a jfashion account and used to have a 60/80 likes boost whenever I posted. The likes came mostly from real people but not interested in jfashion. With this system I averaged 250/300 likes per post. A weeks ago I decided I only wanted "real" likes, so I avoided using this boost. However, I'm getting less and less likes now, and I'm still being followed by all kinds of spammy accounts (which was what I was hoping to avoid). This is really making me confused. Although I don't want to keep using sheningans, getting low engagement is depressing. What would you do in my place?

How the fuck do you get invited to those pods? Do I just approach someone I know who's in a comment pod?

make a pod with your J-fashion friends.

Also there's no real way to get rid of those fake spammy accounts, although you can try to report them.

Does Wunderwelt (or any other JP site) have any big site-wide holiday sales, like Taobao and 11/11?

Dif anon but lol I noticed this too. Thankfully the pics usually have a watermark on them that I can track down their weibo or taobao.

I wasnt opposed to using them until I saw their fees. They seem pretty pricey compared to other options so I've stuck with TBR. I love using their page though to find interesting taobao items

Is there any site that has a directory of the dresses that show up in the GLB or something like that? I'm looking for coord examples of a particular piece and I'm finding nothing while searching regularly.

Are contacts still a thing in lolita? Feels like they've lost popularity over the years and now I barely see them on places like COF and even OTT sweets seem to be lacking them.

I think some of the pics got submitted to lolibrary, you can see some really old Moitie where the images come from old GLB scans, but no one's really bothered.

If you know the release date you can probably track down the corresponding issue and see if it had a promo photoshoot. Additionally, check the ameblo and yaplog for the brand's individual shops, some shops will just lay out the new arrivals in a row, but other shops will do coords with them, so you might be able to find something there.

They were always kind of low impact if done right, not the easiest to obtain and use and ran the risk of looking tacky costume-like if the colours were too bright. I think it's more like they were a hot trend for a hot minute and then people dropped it when they got bored with it.

Current trend is towards more natural colouring anyway, so some of the girls wearing circle lenses would be opting for natural colours. You'd have trouble picking them out from other girls if they didn't actually say they were wearing lenses.
