You could, but adding guaranteed warm weather to the equation, Katsucon would have to have a badge cap otherwise you will see a massive jump in attendance which will choke out the harbor with the crowds.

No. I mean it could be done, but Sakura Matsuri is already pretty crowded with other members of the public and Katsucon is the same with attendees. I don’t see people willing to leave an expensive con like Katsucon to go into downtown DC to pay an extra $10 to see the already overcrowded festival.

I would keep those events separate.

As far as the trees are concerned katsucon attendees can’t even treat a nice venue properly. I wouldn’t want to see the damage done to the trees.

The time of year that the cherry blossoms bloom varies a lot from year to year, and peak bloom is a short window. You couldn’t plan a con around it.

The Tidal Basin is crowded as fuck anyway. Kenilworth and Dumbarton are where it’s at.

I wish I could use this as an excuse but I've been shooting for a year at this point and they were all fairly excited and enthusiastic about shooting with me.
Definitely going to try to salvage what I have and apologize but I feel pretty bad man.

>> No.10111347 [View]

Remember, too, that you're your own harshest critic. In particular, any editing you do to salvage will be less obvious to everyone else because they didn't spend forever painfully staring at the raws.

But yeah, live and learn. I did most of my editing last night and wish I could almost every shot... a gazebo shoot was the most painful, it should have turned out so much better but I didn't adjust to the lighting very well. But the people are still happy with their pictures and I know better for next time.

>If you're not confident in your own skill
>be a little bitch and sit on the sideline and do nothing or actually get out there and do something about it
I'm not going to get anywhere if I dont step out of my comfort zone. I would love to make a disclaimer that I'm completely unconfident in my abilities but that would be extremely off putting.
This was a huge learning experience and shooting in such a packed space really opened my eyes to a lot of things that I need to work on like really drilling in my head that I really need to start understanding poses & angles, being able to direct people better, planning out a hell of a lot more pre-planned poses/compositions especially in case someone doesn't want to go to the location I had in mind, etc.

>>10111739
I've been very tempted to post on /p/ for criticism but I really don't feel right about posting the faces of people who I've shot with on 4chan.

>I'm not going to get anywhere if I dont step out of my comfort zone.
You step out of you comfort zone on your own time. Not when you're working with other people. Specially if you don't give them a heads up about your skill level and they're expecting you to deliver something that you can't give them.

>but that would be extremely off putting.
Working with someone who's inexperienced IS off putting in it of itself. But you should be upfront about it and let those people decide if they still want to work with you or not.

>> No.10111931 [View]

>>10111905
Nah, photographer did nothing wrong. They were free shoots, it's not like he's getting paid money and then delivering an inferior product. If he'd actually charged them something it'd be different, but he didn't, I assume because he was very well aware that he might mess it up and he wouldn't feel comfortable taking people's money without the experience to back it up.

>You step out of you comfort zone on your own time
If you ain't gettin paid, it IS your own time. If they wanted professional work, then they'll pay for a professional.

Thursday and Friday were great. Bit crazy on Saturday with all the people. Sunday felt empty.
Dealers room was meh.
Artist alley was awkwardly packed. they could have used the space better for traffic.
As my first katsucon I really enjoyed it for the people and cosplay at display. I would really love to go again next year.

Any idea when hotels open up for 2020?

I feel like if they moved the photosuite into another room they could've utilized more of the area for Artist Alley. Also, iirc they had one in the Artist Alley and another photosuite in the hallway connecting the hotel and convention center??? No con needs 2 photosuites! I missed a lot of tables because I was literally sandwiched between people, especially in the last row closest to the exit.

APS-C yes. get f1.4 or f1.8. F1.4 being the better of the 2 options.
Fuji x mount the 56mm f1.2
Sony E mount APS-C Sigma 56 f1.4

I have a full frame Nikon. What focal length should I be using? My 50mm prime can kind of carry its weight, but is there any lens that goes from, say, 35mm to 85mm with a similarly wide aperture?

>> No.10112616 [View]

>>10112181
I concur, the photo shoot areas took up way too much space. The one by the upper hallways junction eliminated a nice sitting area I've always enjoyed. The one in the AA could certainly have been downsized, if not shifted to some smaller room off to the side, or perhaps along a hallway somewhere else. They always allocate those guys a shitload of space that gets unused.

Sony FE here, 85 1.8 Zeiss is a good lens between the G MASTER.

>I have a full frame Nikon.
>35mm to 85mm with a similarly wide aperture?
The options are the 24-70mm f2.8 for zoom. 70mm at f2.8 you will get blur.
Your best option Nikon 105mm f1.4 for the best in weight and size and blur the background for full frame camera.
Sigma 105mm f1.4 is the better option with the trade off weight. Price and performance is better.
The next option is the 85mm f1.4 nikon or the Sigma 85mm f1.4.
Get the Peak design lens kit for nikon F mount and carry a 35mm and the 85mm primes. Swapping lenses is fast. I do this with the sony FE lenses and its easy.

From my time at katsucon I leverage the 35mm f1.4 the most as the space was tight. Still get head shot blur and not much distortion.
If I were to go back I would bring only the 24mm f1.4 GM and the Zeiss/sigma 50mm f1.4 for Sony FE.

Yeah, those tables were always a great place to sit down and I'd see people even play board games there. By getting rid of that space it makes it more crowded because if people needed to sit, they'd just plop their groups asses on the floor. I am personally not a fan of photosuites, especially in such a photogenic location, so I'm biased but there HAS to be a better spot.
