Since OP is replying to himself at this point, it wouldn't matter. The cosplay scene is full of people who dress up as funny characters and talk to other people about their funny characters. Maybe they want to look sexy because it's the appropriate scene for it, maybe they are sexy because the initial character is sexy and they admire them, maybe they want to look sexy because they enjoy the attention they get. If you think that the scene is just some lurid orgy constantly happening as soon as you peel the door back, I earnestly have to wonder why you haven't joined yet? Go to your local anime convention and ask every woman you see if they are offering senseless free sex because they're dressed up in an outfit.
