I'm trying to figure out how to do Vanellope's wand. I've never done resin casting before, and all the tutorials I've looked at are just simple shapes, nothing like cramming a dowel rod into a mold.

My current idea is to find a similarly sized cookie cutter or layer some wooden discs to the right size and mold around it with clay and then cram the dowel rod into the mold through one side. That way it's held in place and the resin is molded around it without compromising the mold. Or is that dumb?
