Eureka from Eureka 7 (the Ramona pic set me off). You have the right height and youthful face to pull off a younger character so there's no issue there.

Ciel from Tsukihime. If that's too plain, then spice it up by doing her Powerd Form instead. She has a big 'ole weapon she uses if you want to try your hand at crafting, too.

Have you considered Kino from Kino's Journey? She's a girl who dresses as a boy so there's a ton of feminine traits to have fun with without having to downplay too much. Also, explaining it to people would be deliciously confusing.
