Yeah, I'm going to agree that bringing parents is just plain weird. This is a meetup, not a playdate. What are you going to talk about with a helicopter parent, anyway, if they're at your table? Or are they just going to sit to the side, watching us? Either option is weird and awkward.

Boyfriends, just like any other guys, who dress well in aristo/boystyle/lolita are very welcome in my book. If not those styles, then even just dressing well in semiformal clothes are a pass in my book (if it's a very formal meetup like afternoon tea, then come in a suit-and-tie, or in formal military uniform if you're part of the military).

If they boyfriend is not badly-dressed at that one meet (maybe it was the girlfriend's first visit to that comm, got an anxiety attack right before, and begged him to come with), if they compliment people's coords, or overall try to engage in conversation, he will be okay in my book. People's lives are complicated, I won't pry.

However, if the boyfriends never make an effort to participate in conversation or in personal style, their presence begins to inch towards the same level of weirdness as the parents. It makes me suspect that either the girlfriend has terrible social anxiety and honestly cannot meet people without him being present, or the boyfriend feels compelled to monitor her all of her social activities. Either option makes me feel worried and uncomfortable.
