Huge cockgobbler move on his part, but tbh other than nostalgia, old cards don't really matter anymore.

The game is a huge power creep so most older cards (especially non effect monsters) are obsolete. Even as far as monetary value goes, cards that aren't limited (like tourney promos) have hardly any because no one wants to buy them for their decks.

So unless you wanted to hold onto them just for sentimental value, eh.

I gave my first batch of cards to a friend in early HS, then she moved away and forgot she had them. My second batch I gave away to a much younger kid who was still actively playing the game. Held onto my DMG promo for sentimental value though, but it got thrown out by my grandparents, despite being 500-5000 on Ebay now depending on which rarity it is.

Ironically, even though it didn't gain nearly as much popularity as YGO, Digimon merch is now incredibly hard to come by and 3x its original value or more.
