I know I'm being a pedantic bastard but, not quite anon, the pic you posted whilst somewhat sweet would still have been considered leaning slightly towards the gothic. Sweet used to look more like pic related but didn't get much air time (especially in the west) after the gothic lolita look started to emerge and gained in popularity. People seem to forget that slightly ropey/frumpy looking sweet and even punkish lolita looks were around before before 'gothic lolita' and their origins were in part, connected to otome (especially pink house) and natural-kei styles plus a whole bunch of musicians/artists.
