You can wear aprons in lolita, but obviously they're more pinafore style or old school. Try to show her the difference between acceptable apron lolita and cosplay apron lolita.

Telling someone they can't do something will just put them off, but by telling them they can do something but they have to do it right they will be more open to making sure they do it right.
