Wash your mouth out with soap, street and outlaw fashion and the hierarchies they produce are interesting in any country. You're just so used to the western versions that you don't see them as cool. Yankii is getting kinda cool in Japan again because it's so out of date that people are starting to romanticise it. Even in Kamikaze Girls which is almost 20 years old, Ichigo's look is described as out of style. But just like you look at yankii and think they look awesome, Japanese people have looked at rap culture of the 90's and think it looks neat. That's how Japan ended up with B-boys in the mid 2000's, and even they are old news now. At the moment, it's Korean, Chinese, and Filipino guys who are looked at as badass. Pic related for example, they're a rap group called Bad Hop. They're from Kawasaki which is one of the poorest parts of Japan and aren't all Japanese. But they are absolutely massive among young Japanese men right now and are actually making headway in the international hip hop scene too
