The complaint about the costume, I get, because it is obscure. The beard complaint however, I don't get, because I've seen Frances with beards much worse than mine.

This. I use it basically as a prop. I know France has roses he can carry and such, but I like things that blow in the wind. And I thought a flag would fit this costume well. It's a preference thing really.

Whenever I sat down for long periods of time (which was rarely) I would take my flag off the pole, fold it, and place it on my lap. Or I would wrap it around its pole and just hold it. I never got any complaints about that, so I thought it was okay to do that. If not, I promise I won't do it anymore.

You might be surprised. Luckily, Hetalia fans seem to be catching on to responses to flags, as most of the people who told me to watch my flag were other Hetalia cosplayers.

Personally, I think big flags are okay. As long as you don't bop people with them and make sure they don't touch the ground, or wear them as capes, then go right ahead.
