Speaking as a 'Murican living in a state that's always behind, it's just not ~trendy~ yet. I knew a lot of people in undergrad that were obsessed with Star Wars and Marvel/DC comics. Those people instantly made friends and had all the coolest~ gear because what they like is liked by everyone else. I love anime and will talk about it with anyone that brings it up; however, I don't want it announced to the entire world.
