In terms of where I draw inspiration, as someone who's always visually looked too adult (both body shape and facial features) to pull off sweet, using a natural waisted or just slightly below natural waist dress (and period shapewear to achieve that lowered waist), a longish A-line skirt instead of cupcakes, and simple prints or solids that instead put the focus on high quality fabric and good workmanship.
