I thought about the magnets as well but I'm not sure where to find them? At least ones that are strong enough to hold the two pieces together. Perhaps I should look online?
As for the cape, I agree that the cape looks like it's a one piece, though the pattern seems kinda wacky to me (I'm terrible at patterning). What would you suggest doing the gold part out of? I don't really like how it looks made out of fabric. Would it work making it a separate piece made out of something sturdier? I think I prefer to imagine it as some chest piece made out of gold or something.

Also, forgive the terrible image reference but couldn't find anything better to explain. Perhaps the cape could work like this bib, closing around the neck with a snap or something of sorts? Making a cape seems so hard all of a sudden.
