"Yea, yea. On all of these lolita blogs, all you hear is the good things and what people like about the fashion and lifestyle. I've done that, too, but this post is going to be about the negative.

Stares: Yes, unfortunately, we're going to be stared at, at least once if you go out in a town/city that wears mostly urban(hip hop) clothing. If we go out dressed like a frilly princess or a high-class Victorian lady, of coarse there's gunna be people staring. It's sorta the same with modern-day goths and emo kids.

Comments: Sometimes, people will approach me when I dress in lolita. It's not often, since I think people are afraid to talk to a lolita. Intimidated, even. Out of all the times I've gone out in lolita, I've received 2 or 3 direct comments from people. They were positive, they say I look like a pretty dolly. But there was this one time, where I was in a parking lot, heading towards the supermarket and these guys drove by and said something about Halloween. They either said, "Is it Halloween already?" or "Happy Halloween". In their defense, it was about two weeks before Halloween, so they might have thought that I was wearing a costume and getting in the spirit. I didn't really hear them, since I was listening to my ipod. I've heard instances where girls get called a bunch of names like "Bo peep" and whatnot.

Connotations: A LOT of people who hear the name of the fashion, but don't actually know what it is, tend to associate the fashion with Vladimir Nobakov's novel,"Lolita". A bunch of lolita, including me, get tired of explaining that lolita is not an overtly sexual style. Ero loli, maybe, but most lolita styles want to recreate the looks of women and children of the Victorian and Rococo eras. Not to say that lolitas can't flirt, have boyfriends or have sex. That's their personal lives, though, lolitas of 16 and under should try not to publicize their sex lives(if there is one at that age), unless they want to ruin the reputation of the style. "
