On the unattractive / bad cosplay topic, I think there are two schools of thought here:

To some people, this is about funny/embarrassing pictures. There are some pictures that you first have to fully take in before they become funny. Not so, with most of these. They're just funny when you see them. You know they're funny before you think about why. In something as obviously visual as cosplaying, if your body shape or face or skin colour is other than what it should be for the character, it's going to look off.

Then there are those who see mainly the technical side to it; those who see cosplaying as a stylistic challenge. To these people, the humour or embarrassment comes from those with bad handiwork, those who made terrible choices, or those who just didn't put the effort in.
