Right, so if I'm understanding you correctly what I thought is correct? Malice Mizer were one of the first bands to exploit fanservice, and it's hard to say whether that's because they were just smart enough to realise it'd increase their popularity with fangirls before anyone else did or may have just been because Gackt is an opportunistic touchy-feely exhibitionist and the members genuinely enjoyed that sort of thing. Then other bands copied and it became a trend done just to get attention and increase a band's popularity (and I guess would be convenient for any members that genuinely *were* gay because they can hide behind saying it's just a gimmick if they come under too much scrutiny). And Gackt's statements in the video above about how they were doing that sort of thing while the cameras weren't rolling just for fun can either be taken as a serious admission of him being biseuxal/bicurious, him trolling, or him lying for more popularity now it's established that thinking about their idols getting off with each other makes fangirls go wild.

I really don't enjoy gimmicks and shock value used for attention, which is part of why I enjoy Mana's work more, since even though he's used shock value visuals he's also generally remained consistent to his vision and cared deeply about both the music and the aesthetic rather than just trend-hopping for popularity (I also found it really interesting how he changed his image a lot post-MM and founding Moitie and never really played up the sexual angle as much again). It's why I enjoy some of the earlier VK bands but not the style-over-substance copycats they spawned.
