/cgl/ - Cosplay & EGL

So I'm putting together a faily simple witch costume for halloween, and the only things I'm missing are a hat and a wand. Now the hats you can find everywhere, but I'm lost on the wand. Tried searching around in party shops and toy stores, and my only options seems to be Harry potter-replicas or sparkly fluffy glittery princess wands. I was thinking ordering from Amazon or Ebay, but I'm afraid they won't get here in time.

How difficult would it be to just pick up a twig from the ground and make one myself (similar pic related)? What would be the best method? Sand it down? Sealing it? Maybe colour it?
