There are non-Japanese who wear nanchatte. But it's a niche fashion in Japan, and even moreso here.

Nanchatte that doesn't involve sailor uniforms (like the one pictured) are similar to other uniform styles in other countries' schools, at it's basic. Button down shirt, pleated skirt, cardigan and/or blazer. What makes it Japanese are things like loose socks, the ribbon and the proportions of the clothing.

I know I'm wasting my time reply to low-tier bait with >>9116169 >>9116444 and >>9116564 but you are responding to people with legitimate questions about the fashion with disinfo. Nanchatte seifuku is specifically a fashion for women out of school, to "relive" their school days and wear their uniforms (that they had or didn't have) as they like.

Recently got into nanchatte and I have to know... how do you guys stop it from getting into cosplay/fetish territory? I recently wore the nanchatte blazer (a boxy navy one) and a friend asked me if I was cosplaying.

What pushes general preppy fashion to nanchatte, or does it even matter?
