The last few years I've "lost" friends due to them letting social media get to their heads and turning them into real assholes. Maybe I just don't get social media that well, but seeing friends that used to be levelheaded turn into real opportunists and claim themselves to be "influencers" the moment they get a huge number of followers is kinda sad. I don't want having to distance myself from someone I used to be good friends with simply because they start treating me and others like we are used rags.

I understand that getting a lot of attention helps your self-esteem a lot, and having people sucking up to you simply for basically existing online gives you a sense of worth. But maybe it's time to hit the breaks when you start burning bridges with friends simply because your ego grew to the size of jupiter.

This summer I had a disagreement with one of my friends that is "big" on social media, she's been acting very entitled about a situation and I thought we had talked it out when I called her out on her behavior and set aside our differences in said situation. But she apparently still calls around to our friends in common and tries to paint me like I'm the bad guy because I didn't give her what she wanted, however most of them have contacted me about it and said they think she's being childish and have apparently been taking some distance from her because of how she's been acting even prior to this. I don't want anything to do with it, but it makes me sad and disappointed in her. I don't feel like defending her anymore.

People change all the time, it just... sucks literally watching them turn into the thing some of them hated. Again, maybe I just don't understand the deal with social media and hype for followers.
