Obligatory first cosplay story.

>second time ever at a convention
>"it is my NERD TIME TO SHINE"
>"I SHALL COSPLAY"
>decides on the dress in pic related (image doesn't carry it well, but the dress is commonly interpreted as black with a green sheen, and sparkles everywhere, and ultra fancy)
>thrifts a black strapless F21 spandex/jersey dress, cuts the skirt off
>buys two yards of black glitter casa satin
>morning of the con
>puts on the strapless now-tube top
>sews the hank of satin to my underbust as I'm wearing the black strapless top
>hair down, real 3d glasses with the lenses popped out

So much cringe from the future. To my credit, I ended up remaking the dress and it. is. infinitely. better. I also found out that my hair type (smooth, straight, and lots of volume) worked surprisingly well for that character, so even though I wigged up for the next few times I wore her, I eventually pushed aside the voice of //only noobs use real hair!!// and just wore my own hair.

It was a fair call. I've also been asked if the glasses I'm wearing (huge circles with a 2.5" diameter) are prescription.
