If you're going to go the card route, I have some OCD tips that will help out.

Use a card holder you can affix to your badge/camera strap/external bag/etc. instead of having to fidget around in your wallet/purse/backpack. This give you faster access, plus makes you look a little less awkward when fishing around for stuff.

The holder I'm using can hold 20, so it keeps track of how many cards I've given out/range of pictures taken, and if I resupply it at least once, I felt that I've done good work for the day. You can also store cards you've gotten from other people in there.

Replace your cards if they look frayed or haven't been circulated in a long time. It reflects poorly for some people if they think you aren't some hotshot who gives out cards frequently. This tip applies to regular networking as well.

About 10% of the cards given out reply back to me or follow our group on twitter. That sounds small, but if you hand out 100 cards at a con, that's still 10 people you didn't network to before.

Plus, it's not just for you. Giving out cards will let cosplayers know where they can find images of themselves after a con without doing the ego-boosting/demoralizing self search.
