I agree. I need to commit to fully stylizing the face instead of this weird in-between that I've been doing. It looks flat because of the realistic facial proportions, but it ends up looking worse if I attempt to add any amount of detail in "ink". If I go full anime-eyes, the flatter color and minimal details should make more sense visually.

In the meantime, here is an attempt at a quick fix. Tweaked the eyes, raised the opacity of the makeup layer, and raised the overall saturation levels to give a pinker color to the skin. It doesn't address the underlying issue, but that'll need to wait for the next full attempt.
