When it comes to sizing, particularly Liz Lisa (at least that's the brand I'm looking at, pic related is their free size measurements), how forgiving are free sizes?

I'm one or maybe two inches larger in the waist than what free sizes are usually marked down on depending on the brand; should I go for them or wait until I slim up with diet, exercise, and a little bit of waist training I'm planning to do?
