I can relate to a lot of the insecure stupid anime protagonists, and I think cosplay/jfash generally draws in the more feminine guys, but you do get the confident /fit/ dudes too. I don't look the part generally, but them I'm not sure how to do that without it being assumed I'm just gay.

I checked that one time and didn't see anyone around me, but was too shy to really ask much anyway. Maybe if I kind some sub to cosplay it'll get the message across, otherwise I'm not sure what to do besides carry a sign around.
