Do you mean mix up as a in combining sweet and gothic items together, or mix up as in confusing sweet pieces for gothic?

Either way, I don't really care. There is no strictly defined border between different substyles and not every coord falls into obvious categories. What makes one of these nun OPs classic and the other gothic? Pretty much just the brand. And they could both be easily styled into a sweet coord.

Why is MMM's Juliet OP gothic and AP's Ennui Doll JSK sweet? The answer can't be the lack of ribbons and lace on Juliet, bc plenty of gothic pieces have lots of ribbons and lace. Cut and color don't make sense either bc Ennui Doll comes in black, Juliet comes in cream and bright colors, both are high waisted dresses, and many dresses of both substyles have similarly wide or narrow skirts. They're both even a gingham pattern, ffs.

The substyles just exist to help us describe certain aesthetics and styles. They aren't rules, they're adjectives.
