Ive been building mecha for awhile now. Though they take so long to build that even after doing it for years I only manage to make about 1 a year. Most recent was GaoGaiGar. I actually got the chance to take it to AX last year and compete.

My GaoGaiGar is my most recent costume. Won a contest and got flown out to Anime Expo and got to do a walk on for the masquerade.

I use hot glue to strengthen some bonds but never as the primary adhesive. It bonds well enough but you cant let it get hot enough to form a really strong bond because it will warp the plastic. You can use it it small amounts to hold a part in shape while stronger adhesives with longer cure time to the real bonding. I do this with JB weld and scotch tape as well.

On GGG the backpack is attached to some backpack straps with spray adhesive loctite brand 300. Those wings are really heavy so it can be some surprisingly strong stuff, but I haven't used it more than that.

Well the hammer is 6 foot tall, but I don't have a scale big enough to weight it. I'm sure its over 15 lbs though. Will they seriously pull out a scale on my arse to check that?

Assuming everything goes well probably just the day of the contest. Maybe Saturday and Sunday if things go well idk.
