OP, generally speaking people lack the ability to view something they did in an objective manner. I was lucky in how I started my photo career, in that, I had someone constantly tell me everything I did was shit. I started shooting 135, so we would toss the negatives in the enlarger and make big prints. From a large print anything that you did wrong is immediately noticeable. I shoot mostly 6x6 now-a-days. But I think one of the major problems is how accessible photography is in the digital era; people just don't seem to have patience in the practice any more. They will stand there and open the shutter and monkey it "oh this ones alright" and repeat, they don't understand you should know if the photo is going to be good or bad when looking through the viewfinder. Also, prep work! I see people rolling their dials like crazy while shooting. You should have your ISO, Sv, and Av set before you ever start with a model, until you start changing lighting of course.

They probably don't understand why photographers edit or they lack direction in their editing.
