Thanks for the answers, this makes a lot of sense.
I recognize the attitude towards bonnets. First I loved them but was too scared to wear them because they stand out a lot, then in the late 2000s there was a lot of talk about them looking baby-ish (especially if the brim was floppy) and them being associated with babies and ageplay. I started to think they would look wrong on me because of those associations. Then later on I got over that. I have some bonnets and haven't gotten any negative comments from non lolitas yet. Someone thought it was a hat. Maybe I'll get some instances of people associating them with babies if I get a white floppy bonnet with lace around the brim.
This picture is the only instance of where I get the association myself, that it looks baby-ish.
