The best thing you can probably do is just be a kind person to others. This applies to cons, online, and anywhere else really.

While there’s certainly internal factors coming into play when someone does something like this, I don’t think there’s any denying that just being kind could help stray a lot people away from making such a drastic decision. Even in the cosplay and lolita communities, would it not be better if people just dropped the unnecessary drama and pettiness? I’m sure we’ve all read posts in the feels threads about people wanting to kill themselves or know of a cosplayer or lolita who took their own life. If someone’s thinking about doing that, people being needlessly mean isn’t going to help. People join these hobbies to have fun; what do they do when even that which they once enjoyed becomes a source of pain for them? Which is partially why I think the ita and bad cosplay threads are bullshit, as there’s ways to give concrit that don’t involve tearing other people down, but that’s an issue for another time.
