The issue isn’t the airbrushing looking crusty, it’s that it’ll look lumpy. Because the fur pile will inevitably catch light differently if it’s not trimmed down short enough, the fronts will look uneven, especially with white base fur. An example of this is new style Auralightluxuries ears. If the ears aren’t lit directly from the front, the lumpiness from the fur is very clear. Pic related is lit from the front and it still looks uneven.

You’re also not hiding the thread, you’re hiding the channel that’s left from the two pieces of fabric meeting. For all you’re trying to talk out of your ass, you apparently have no idea how bad the ears you make look, clearly.
